The fact viserys refused help from his own kings guard, but the moment he realized it was daemon who stepped up to help him to the throne viserys didnt say a word and let daemon help. Great way of showing how much they actually loved and trusted each other despite all the animosity.
It was totally improvised, it wasn't in the script. His crown fell off, which wasn't scripted, it was accidental, Matt Smith then stepped in and they kept it going. The director liked it so much they kept it, it makes this scene even better knowing that.
They had disagreements but I wouldn’t say they animosity.
It was perfect closure to their relation ship arch in 1st season. One great gesture that says it all.
Viserys was more than upset after Daemon insulted his deceased son. However, I’d say he forgiven but not forgotten

Daemon loved his brother, even when Viserys hated him. Even when Daemon disobeyed him. Someone defying his brother's command and usurping the throne from Viserys's publicly declared heir is more than enough to send Daemon on the warpath. Daemon may have disobeyed his brother from time to time, but he loved his brother and would never allow someone else to criticize or gainsay his brother's edicts. As he made plainly clear to Corlys Velaryon when Corlys criticized Viserys.

But he did indeed fail in maintaining a stable certainty after his death. What would make a good king? That is difficult to say for every situation. Some Kings were named bad Kings because of situations they had no control over. But in my option. Viserys was a mediocre king. Not the best. But definitely not a bad king compared to other targrariens.

Daemon has been described as a grey character which is why he's my favorite. His motives aren't the same as most in Westeros. He doesn't want power or the throne. All he truly wants is the love of his brother and niece. He will happily do some reprehensible things to get what he wants. It's kind of sweet actually. He killed his first wife in the hope Viserys would marry him to rhaenyra.
Well his mom died when he was barely an infant and his dad and brother were the ones who looked after him until his father passed so he was practically brought up by viserys

I don’t think that they did… It’s quite natural to want to further one’s own house/organization, that’s why the small council members was usually chosen from different factions.
Wanting to please the lords is not a bad thing, as long as they do not take advantage of it. It is indeed the best way of keeping this kind of feudal society stable and tranquil, and we saw what happened when he displeased Corlys; Corlys went of and started a war!
Viserys drew clear enough boundaries when they went too far. I can’t really see that they ’preyed’ on his weakness.🤔
Viserys was indeed emotionally weak, however, than only showed in his handling of Rhaenyra and him being compelled by guilt to make a bad decision. His handling of the lords was quite exemplary. I can’t really say what Demon is on about.

The "peace" that he kept was the result of the prosperity that the Old King left the kingdom with. It literally had nothing to do with anything that Viserys did.
In the end, his actions (or lack thereof) is what lead to the Dance of Dragons and the extinction of Dragons shortly after.

It's so pleasant to see duality well portrayed. Daemon is a monster, no doubt. But he sure loved his brother to an unhealthy degree.
Brotherly love is rarely unhealthy. As a 40K fan, only one instance comes to mind, that being when the traitorous Primarch of the Emperor’s Children, Fulgrim, the Phoenician, attempted to convince Ferrus Manus, the Primarch of the Iron Hands, to turn against the Emperor.

Daemon is not a complicated character. Everything he does has always been out of love for his family whether it be to benefit them or simply annoy them into paying attention. I’m the youngest of four brothers. Daemon makes perfect sense to me.
I completely agree as much as his behaviour is very erratic and he's not always the best at controlling his emotions, I believe alot of it is brought on by his absalute devotion to his family's name and legacy and his brother too

@@jackcampbell1704There’s many concrete theories that the Maesters were behind Viserys condition getting worse, in fact when grand maester mellos was replace with Orwyle Viserys condition improved dramatically and he lived a lot longer. In fact there’s many conspiracies about the maester form then poising the dragons slowly, to them posing queens, Rhealla and Elia to stop them from having more children.

One of my favorite scenes was Daemon helping his brother to the throne and then putting the fallen crown back on his head. He loved The King.
When Daemon told Corlys that only HE could talk shift about his brother, reminded me of my 3 younger brothers that were only MINE to torment. God help anyone who spoke bad of them or hurt them. Big sister took care of it.
Demon’s relationship with Viserys was truly his one redeeming quality… (that and his cheekbones)

In all seriousness though, that helmet, (the entire armour actually) is horrendous… I probably wouldn’t have chosen a flail though, not much force in them, I think an ordinary mace/hammer would have done just fine.

Daemon is set up as a player ambition for the throne himself. That's who we all thought he was. But all along he was totally loyal to his brother. A perfect harmony of brother love and princely duty.
Nobody will ever be able to convince me that one of viserys biggest mistakes was to not make daemon hand. He may have been power hungry, but his love for his brother was above all else. None of the snakes plans would've came to Fruition if daemon was king.

I believe (just like Viserys’s small council) that Daemon would have been a terrible king, perhaps even comparable to Maegor I. He was such a divisive figure, he would have turned half the realm against him, even if he didn’t go entirely mad (which power has the tendency to do).
However, you are correct, it may not have been as disastrous for house Targaryen as the dance was, as any rebellion would have lacked support due to his legitimacy.
I am sure you can agree that his biggest mistake was rather to make Rhaenyra heir…

Old valarian traditions dictated anyone could rule as long as they were FIRST born. Targaryens adopted that male only rule from westeros, which they didn't need to at all. As for Daemon, what he wanted doesn't matter. When his brother was ALIVE he was very tamed. He didn't start any war when his brother was alive and was ready to go to war to put his very own big brother in power. If anything, daemon would've made sure his brother could be himself without insurrection or greedy people trying to take out his family. Plus rhaenyra would've had a stronger claim with daemon as support. Viserys forgot where he came from and the customs that got them into power trying to please the people of westeros who hated them anyway.

Lord Aenar Targaryen seemed to adapt quickly to Westerosi customs, because every Lord of Dragonstone since himself was a male. Visenya wasn't the High King, Aegon was. Jaehaerys became King, not his elder sister Rhaena. Aemon was made to be Prince of Dragonstone, heir to the Throne, not his older sister Daenerys.
Literally not once has a Female Targaryen gotten the Throne above their male counterparts save for Aerea Targaryen, but ONLY because Maegor had no heirs and she was the youngest Targaryen at the time. Viserys and Jaehaerys were his rivals for legitimacy so of course he didn't want them as his heirs, nor did he see Aerea's mother as a fit for his Heir either. That's the ONLY time a female Targaryen was made Heir before Rhaenyra, and it's because she was the only option, until the new King had an heir of his own.
No one thinks Aegon would be a good king, but Rhaenyra would've been a bad queen. She doesn't care about tradition or duty, and she committed high treason by placing Bastards in line for the Throne.

Also, aegon the conqueror became ruler bcuz he put in the most work making the kingdoms bend then knee. He Should've been king since he had to spill the most blood. The only Reason they were all folding is bcuz they wanted to please foreigners who shouldn't have had a say in the first place.

Daemon's motivations are much like those of Jaime Lannister. They may not necessarily be entirely moral people, but their actions even when immoral are almost always done out of an intense loyalty and love for their families. A good parallel here is how when Catelyn captured Tyrion on suspicion of attempting to assassinate Bran, Jaime killed Jory in the streets, wounded Ned Stark, and attempted to kill Ned Stark in a one-on-one battle, effectively declaring war for House Lannister against House Stark. Daemon has a very similar reaction when he finds out Viserys has died and he believes it to be the work of Alicent and Otto.
The depths of his pain is unimaginable but he was not the unhappiest by far. Rhae literally lost her baby in the trauma - a daughter's love for her beloved father only grows and never ends.

Daemon only ever wanted to serve and protect his brother because he saw how overly nice it was, they could’ve balanced each other out nicely.
As a sibling, I totally understand the relationship between Damon and viserys. It's a love-hate relationship. There's friction, there's competition, there's anger, and there are fights. But at the end of the day there's love and care too.

My father died of cancer 2 years ago, I cared for him for 8 years. He looked, sounded like and moved just like Viserys in that last scene, minus the long hair.
How daemon was by his side holding him and guiding him was exactly what I did for him everywhere, and gave me so many flashbacks. I can’t see Viserys at that stage of his illness without tears running down my face.
That acting is brutally realistic. I have so much respect for how well they portrayed his struggles with his illness here.
I wish I could of put a crown on my fathers head like Daemon did. He got given 3-5 years to live, that tough fucker fought it for 8.

he fought more than 7yrs, even bedridden he still want to get up... He passed peacefully this year. I hope our dads share their tales Up there ☝️

I studied anatomy and physiology, and learnt a lot about medical shit caring for him, so when he was trying to get up I kept telling him, wait for the chemo to have a break, as his muscles had atrophied, meaning his joints had minimal support and I told him if he kept it up he’d need a hip replacement, which he did two years later.
It gives you a lot more perspective watching that stuff.

I went into this knowing because I had read the book that Damon Targaryen was going to be the star but little did I know that the king and his bright light would not be outshined. Oh hail the king!

I have to give it to the producers they really wanted Viserys to stand out amongst the other characters that were building these massive arcs.
He should’ve been an almost background character but the producers and the actor gave him a depth that I grew to enjoy and now I don’t think I could read the books again the same.
Vyseris was wrong abt Daemon not fit to rule. He only said that because of the dream and wanted to keep peace in the realm. He really believed Daemon was rogue and that was furthest from the truth. He was just willing to do what’s necessary. the moment he named Rhanyra as heir he knew damn well a war would be fought. Hell Otto and Allicient were disobeying his wishes and tried to steal the throne and he was still alive. Truth is if he really cared abt keeping peace, he should have named Aegon. Though I doubt Otto’s greed, along with Aegon’s stupidity would have kept diplomacy in the seven kingdoms for long. The correct choice was always Daemon. Fear alone would have been enough for these Lords to not fight back against Daemon. No one would have challenged. And naming him heir, and choosing him as Hand of the King would not only get rid of Otto, but he could have spent years mentoring his lil bro.

There's also the fact that the throne itself could have killed him. Not by sentience, but by the fact it has those weapons on it, which he hurt his hand with if I remember, leading to it starting to decay.

My youngest brother always adored me and our parents would often call me to convict him. I always imagined in my final days he would be there helping me walk, but he joined the ancestors before me😔.
I’ve said this a few times, but the amount of nonverbal facial acting in this series is unsurpassed in its perfection. Matt Smith can sell any scene with simply body language and facial expression. He’s turning from the fireplace at the news of his brothers death is a perfect example, you can feel the disbelief but also the pain. He didn’t need outlandish screams or falling to his knees and tears, but you feel it. Same with the actress who plays R
Metaphorically speaking and actually in actuality, sitting on the throne is what killed him. That little cut he received from one of the swords actually gave him leprosy which caused him to rot from the inside out. He would have always died of it.
That's not how you get leprosy. It's a bacterium in water that is ingested.

The sad thing is that Alicent actually didn’t do anything wrong towards her king, she really tried to be a good wife to him even if she didn’t love him in that specifically romantic way. She did bad things, made bad choices but she really never went against him

She didn't inform rhaenyra about her father's death.. atleast rhaenyra would have paid him her last respects
She refused to get other maesters to help him and let the same old ineffective tactics be used time and again, including keeping him drugged and in bed so her and her father could pretend they were in charge. You remember Otto sitting on the Iron Throne looking smug and filled with hate? I do. They let him die. Alicent is awful and nowhere near the victim people make her out to be.

And Alicent hangs out with and protects known murders and Kinslayers (I’m talking about Larys Strong not Aemond). Otto Hightower and various members of the king’s small council were plotting to disrespect and not follow their King’s last wish on who the next ruler would be. They were even discussing killing Rhaenyra and her children.
This isn’t the show for “good guys”.
