Brad can I just say. I don’t even watch these videos for the silk press. I watch because NO ONE appreciates a black woman’s hair like you do! Thank you so much for reminding the world there is beauty in us too!
I feel like the silicone is exactly the reason why Black people started loving Chi. It helps the hair lay flatter without feeling too heavy and seems to leave a really nice shine and protection behind after the silk press; that "coating" you mentioned. The downside is too much of it will leave your hair really weighed down and oily. But Black people don't typically have to worry about oiliness and build up as quickly especially type 4 hair hence why we can normally go longer between washings too. I'd imagine a "coating" on someone's hair who has to wash it off everyday would seem unnecessary but for us it helps that silk press stay silky a little longer. They're also easily available at the drug store unlike a lot of other brands and relatively affordable for your average person. Especially if you use it sparingly.
I’ve used Chi Silk Infusion for over a decade and have it to thank for the health of my hair. In college I ironed my hair every day (yea I had the energy) and it still grew down to my waist with no splits. I’m white but my hair is curly, frizzy and dry without something to seal in moisture. I tried to find something fragrance free that’s similar but may have to go back to it. Trying to grow my hair back healthy after bleaching the shit out of it and don’t wanna take my chances. lol
I call Chi and Super Skinny “liquid crack” to my clients and tell them exactly that. Too little it doesn’t help, too much and you’ve gotta wash and restart. And honestly other than a treatment (like the one she used) and a simple product like the chi or super skinny, maybe a heat protectant if your product doesn’t have one built in, that’s all you need. I know Brad is a product junkie but that’s exactly what’s gonna cause stiff hair once you press it. Hence the phrase “Silk”, gotta be silky and flowing, which means less product and better technique.
Who doesn’t love black womens hair? It’s amazing!!! When a black woman takes good care of her hair it’s the best type of hair. I have naturally wavy hair but it first comes in curly and then goes straight. It’s nice having options but us white girls are just wavy haired fuzz balls. Black women need to help us out 😆 we are a damn mess.
As a Natural hair black woman, watching this RUclipsr give us our flowers is soooo greatly appreciated ❤ not even members of our own (black) community appreciates our natural kinky, coily curly hair. It's looked at as "bad hair". We have been so brainwashed by whites over centuries telling us how ugly our skin is or how ugly and "Nappy" our hair is. We were taught that biracial chicks hair or white people's hair is considered "good hair" it's this way of thinking that made me give up relaxers going on 13 years now. It's longer than it's ever been. When I was relaxing it, it wouldn't grow past a certain length and that's probably because of the years of chemical burns from the relaxers. Now my hair is waist length and it's amazing 😍 I would NEVER go back to relaxers. I think all black women should ditch the creamy crack and go natural. It's insane that I get more compliments wearing my hair big and curly from white people than I do in my own community. Even my mom said my hair is "Nappy" and needs to be relaxed. @@renatatarnawski5974incorrect. The only way to imitate natural curls that a person african decent has is literally to perm your hair. Braids gives you waves, not curls
She basically did a keratin treatment on top of an older keratin treatment after 3-6 months. She did a Brazilian blowout and not a silk press. I know because she applied chemicals with gloves which is the second step after stripping the hair. 🤫 She also didn’t film all steps. You have to wash the hair after flat ironing it to wash out that chemical shit. They are toxic chemicals.
Fellow poc with curly hair here, I also loved Chi products when I was trying to get my hair to grow back after years of damage from straightening with a flat iron. I bought their straightener, heat protectant, silk infusion and the shampoo/conditioner. I still use everything except the shampoo/conditioner. It saved my hair and gave me my length back as well. The silk infusion (maybe from the silicone?) really helps keep the hair smooth and frizz free. I’ll go to fix my curls on day three or so and after running a bit through my hair after it makes a huge difference. Hope to try your products at some point 😊
I have 4a hair but I’ve never been to a salon and have only given myself silk presses for years. The best technique I’ve found for silk presses is to start with your hair WET (it creates a much silkier blowout from the get go than starting from dry) and use a round boar bristle brush (you want to get it as straight as possible but I love volume and body so doing a traditional round brush blowout up away from the head gives me that) to blowout the hair in small sections to get it as straight as possible, then I go in with a flat iron around 350 to really get it nice and straight and shiny

As far as blow drying goes, the goal is usually to stretch the hair as much as possible without damaging. For curlier hair types, the tension required to blow it straight can be really hard on the hair for a non professional.
19:54 as for your comment on “does the hair need to be as straight as possible” it all depends on the individual and how coarse their hair is, how thick, how long and it’s really whatever works for your hair. Some people can barely blow dry it and have a good silk press, and some people need that bone straight blowout in order to get a good silk press, so it all depends on the individual. Btw love these videos 🤎

I am the opposite of the coily springy, thick texture and I actually love chi as well! Their iron gaurd spray actually does a better job of helping my hair hold a culr than any hair spray I've ever tried. But I do love their finishing and texture sprays as well.
I grew up next door to my best friend (still best friend) who is black and I remember going to her house and her mom put a hot comb in the oven (or maybe stove 🤔), that was some (terrifying) G shit right there. I remember she would teach her how to do her hair in all these intricate steps versus my mom just did my hair for me. As a kid I never thought much about the care that was put in to her hair, honestly I just loved when her mom included me and use the same rubber bands (with those plastic balls) and put little braids in my hair 😊
I love to watch black hair tutorials, too, and I am an old white woman. I am always so jealous of the things they can do with their hair and natural hair is so amazing and beautiful. My two favorites are Viv Hair Therapy and Deeper Than Hair TV.
13:41 Hey Brad!! I believe she was saying she was stretching her hair with the braids she made. This makes it easier to dry, specifically blow dry. It also makes the hair just a bit more manageable. I do it all the time :)
20:05 I haven't straightened my hair in a long time but, when I used to regularly straighten it, I didn't focus on blow drying it smooth because the flat iron seemed to grip my hair better and produce smoother results when it still had texture and volume.
I used to do silk presses all the time but it is so much work! And just a little rain or humidity ruins it. Decided to get sisterlocs 10 years ago, best hair decision I ever made.
Love your silk press vids!! I did mine like the 2nd girl for over half my life while only giving myself halo relaxers at home and it stayed super healthy & long. People always questioned if it was real. I rarely do heat anymore but will blowdry with a denman brush the way she used her paddle and you're correct; it then makes the one iron pass possible. 👏🏿👏🏿
Brad Mondo, I enjoy how he's seeing several cultures with varied hair textures. I believe a hair stylist should learn all different types of hair and how to manage them. That is what you term a skilled stylist.
When I was young I always wanted to be a hairdresser although it was definitely more important to raise my 5 children. So that is what I did, but you are so right watching these women silk press their beautiful long hair is so satisfying. I wish you could see my hair. I'm 65 and my hair is so long, curly, and thick. I want to cut it so badly but I'm scared. Anyway love watching you Brad ❤
Hey Brad, as someone who also overthinks many things I do, just wanted you to know I'm here for the light ramblings of behind the scene stuff like why you can't see properly. As long as you are truely doing your best, there isn't anything more that anyone can ask of you. Keep up your great work 👏
I’ve been following Jasmine since she first started RUclips, and her hair has ALWAYS been long lol, but me personally I have to blow out my hair first before straightening to get it bone straight ♥️
So beautiful and so satisfying to watch. Don't have the patience for this though lol. Currently my hair is about 33in long too (And so so thick!) , I can't do anything with it. Taken me 7 years to decide to let someone cut it, nervous, but probably cutting it all off this weekend. Thanks for another wonderful video Brad!
I swear by my Revair for type 4 hair! I’m not a fan of the Revlon brush blow dryer but I know a lot of people love it. I just bought Chi to try with my next silk press, hopefully its good and doesn’t do damage to my natural texture
So from what my mama always told me, the reason we don't necessarily aim for a full on blow out when doing the silk press is to avoid excessive heat damage. I guess the idea is that if we're going to risk damaging our natural curls with a style like this, we'll apply the majority of our heat during the actual press, everything else is as minimal as possible. I think that's why we try and towel dry the hair before blow drying, and when we blow dry we only do enough to stretch it out. Once stretched, only do the minimal amount of passes with the flat iron at the lowest effective temperature. It's all about preserving our curls when we decide to go back to rocking the curls ❤❤❤ love your videos. I'd love to see you react to people going from a silk press back to curly
Listen i started watching you bc i love how you react to these videos but i adore how you love black women and their hair i love how you love how we do our hair and how excited you are to react to these videos

Every time I watch Brad reacting to black hair videos (or just curly hair in general) it makes me want to post a video yme doing my own silk press just so I can hope he'll react to it 😂 😅😭❤
You should totally do it!!!
Same girl!! 😭
Do it!!!
Do it!!! I could watch this all day long!
Yes do it, we need more 😂
Wow girl!! Your hair is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! I love it curly and straight!
Our hair can do anything! Do you do satisfying videos of silk presses going back curly and coily?! That is satisfying as heck too!! ❤❤
I'm happily loc'd. I watch for his excitement. The enjoyment is hilarious.
The arm workout that all of these women did is humbling me. Particularly the ones with Hella long hair. My biceps are crying vicariously
I could never 😂
🥹Brad, this video is so affirming for me as a Black woman. TYSM.
You look incredible, love the beard.
Ok...I should not have been eating while watching this because when I tell you Brad saying 30 inch buss down almost ended my life 😭😂 I cannot
I really appreciate his broad knowledge of culture and different backgrounds involving hair among all women. His genuine reactions just make it!💯❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
16:08 Brad I’m a bw with Locs and I balayaged my hair from your instructions and everyone just compliments me on my color. Thanks Brad 🩷
I wish Brad would do more loc content
Really enjoyed this video! Gorgeous hair and the appreciation of black hair community could not be better ❤
Hi Brad!I am a hairstylist in Plainville,Ct.I just love your show and your dry sense of humor.I always learn something every time I watch you.Thank you!
I love his love for our unique hair. We love you too Brad!!!🤗
Brad's having hairgasms . Love it. The results are beautiful.
Brad, you are the sweetest person! You have so much respect for other people, so much light in you, so much passion! I sincerely adore you as human! And you are looking crazy handsome too❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This was a beautiful view to see their step by step techniques. Thank you ladies and Thank you Brad ❤❤❤
Silk presses are SO satisfying!
I am the opposite of the coily springy, thick texture and I actually love chi as well! Their iron gaurd spray actually does a better job of helping my hair hold a culr than any hair spray I've ever tried. But I do love their finishing and texture sprays as well.
I love watching these videos with Brad. Second girl slayed I also love the more curly the better vibes
Brad, this is your look, the hair style and the beard, please keep it!
You should follow @Deeper Than Hair TV. She is the pro at silk press.
I watch her. Love her energy and devotion to keeping hair healthy.
That’s the Philly girl her most Philly hair stylist nail the silk press
He’s actually shown her before 😊
I love her videos!! She’s amazing!!!
Yeah, Kee is the goat❤ I love her
Love Brad's hair
And the color
These videos give me so much respect for how much time and care hair like this takes. I don't know how people do it. It's just impressive.
Love it! As a fellow curly, appreciate Brad showing us all the textures ➿
Looks like a Babyliss straightener in the first video. I love their heating tools. Totally gets the job done.
White Curly girl here. Love Chi because it makes my hair like silk and smells amazing.
Your hair looks so good, it suits your faceshape brad
You have an appreciation for so many different looks & textures. It's very endearing.
13:41 Hey Brad!! I believe she was saying she was stretching her hair with the braids she made. This makes it easier to dry, specifically blow dry. It also makes the hair just a bit more manageable. I do it all the time :)
20:05
I haven't straightened my hair in a long time but, when I used to regularly straighten it, I didn't focus on blow drying it smooth because the flat iron seemed to grip my hair better and produce smoother results when it still had texture and volume.
All of these ladies are so beautiful and talented!
I used to do silk presses all the time but it is so much work! And just a little rain or humidity ruins it. Decided to get sisterlocs 10 years ago, best hair decision I ever made.
As a licensed hair stylist, the blowout on black hair is KEY to a silk press
Love your silk press vids!! I did mine like the 2nd girl for over half my life while only giving myself halo relaxers at home and it stayed super healthy & long. People always questioned if it was real. I rarely do heat anymore but will blowdry with a denman brush the way she used her paddle and you're correct; it then makes the one iron pass possible. 👏🏿👏🏿
Brad Mondo, I enjoy how he's seeing several cultures with varied hair textures. I believe a hair stylist should learn all different types of hair and how to manage them. That is what you term a skilled stylist.
Silk presses will always amaze me. Seeing the whole process looks like literal magic to me
Wow god really blessed that first girl. She needs to share her routine for the girlies.
As a straight-as-a-board hair girl (old woman) with thin hair, also; I absolutely loved the first girl with curls. Her hair is amazing!
4:14 As weird as it sounds Chi feels great on our textured hair and smells amazing . I also use the Per Grooming Line for my dogs and cats ❤
Today has been tough.. This makes it better. Thank you. ❤
I hope your day gets better sweetheart. Jesus loves you :)
@@somethinggood9267 that's very sweet of you. Thanks!
I love the way u react to black girl hair textures 😂❤
I have very coily hair, and Chi is always my go-to when flat ironing. Nothing else has ever given the same level of results.
I swear by my Revair for type 4 hair! I’m not a fan of the Revlon brush blow dryer but I know a lot of people love it. I just bought Chi to try with my next silk press, hopefully its good and doesn’t do damage to my natural texture
I really wish I purchased the Revair instead of the Dyson Airstrait last year. 😩 I have 4c hair and my hair laughed at that dryer.
When brad says hey beautiful fact that no one says that to me except him I love him so much ❤
I love love you give us black women credit we deserve!
“I never saw your videos but I missed you” brad would be a great manager to have
Listen i started watching you bc i love how you react to these videos but i adore how you love black women and their hair i love how you love how we do our hair and how excited you are to react to these videos
Literally just went and ordered this chi silk infusion
I’m loving the black on white with the chrome looking desk (maybe it’s just a lighting trick but either way I love it )
Was fun to watch them silk press their hair. Chi we started by hairdresser Farouk Shami, the products are a game changer in haircare results ,I love the products they make❤
I'm listening
