Thanks Dom. Super helpful. You are one of my favorite youtube teachers. Why? Info is solid, is explained very clearly, broken down logically and you have a great personality to deliver it all.
Project Backup is SUCH an important topic, so I just want to mention a quick little blurb about blu ray storage for those who don't know! I have an uncle that works for Intel, when I was really young he mentioned to me how using blu-ray disks for backup is a great alternative to HDDs. non-spinning CDs in general last 20 to 50 years without corruption, compared to a hard-drive that's in use which can last 3 to 5 years until some data starts to corrupt. The corruption could be small, but its still not worth the risk if your job involves revisiting projects. Plus you can always set up a client with a blu ray project backup once the project is over. Single layer blu ray houses 25gb while dual layer houses 50 gb of storage. A 25pack of verbatim 50gb writable blu rays ( which equates to 1.2tb of storage) costa $106CAD on amazon. If u consider the lifespan I think its worth the extra buck. Definitely worth a look!
Oh Dom! You are life saver brother. I have lost around 50 tracks all completed and vocal ready a year ago just for doing this mistake. I have worked after though but still haven’t start doing the proper backup and today I saw your video. Honestly friend, I have not watched this video yet and decide to post a comment cuz I know even before watching that something great is coming for me to learn. You’re absolutely amazing! ♥️
Hi Dom! Something IMPORTANT for mac users: If you use "minimize audiofiles" the Sampler Tracks will shrink to silence and you loose all your audio in them. This is a bug, a couple of people notified Steinie...so be sure to mention this. On mac (im on Catalina, not shure if Big Sur and older OS have this problem) you have to clean up the audio in the arrangement and pool, then backup with Minimize Audio Files.
You are a FUCKING LIFE SAVER. You know EXACTLY what wee need and how to deliver it to us. I cant thank you - love you enough. You are more than awesome

Hi Dom, at 2:27 I dont think you need to check the pool regarding directories etc. Because by backing up the project, all files in the pool will be RESAVED afresh anyway inside the new backed-up project, neat and tidy in one place.
That’s why I love Cubase the Queque expiration option cost the whole program bro! This is crucial because I only have to export one time my whole session and not various times. Just a life saver and adding more time to your life 😁.

wow Dom, I didn't know all of this existed in the export menu. Thanks for the explanation -- Now, if only there was a way to import my old Cakewalk files into Cubase (easily) LOL
Hi Dom, I offer this in the hope it might help some users. As you know Cubase stores it's files and settings all over the place. This makes it a nightmare for enabling backups of things like your own key settings, macros, etc. If you save a profile or even backup a project you don't get everything. I have been using a program called BeyondSync for years now and I've just put it to very good use in my Cubase setup. BeyondSync lets you specify a set of folders on your computer and automatically back them up to another drive. You can specify the backup to run whenever you wish. Unfortunately it's not free but it's not expensive. If you use this program, once setup you can be sure that, say, monthly all your settings saved by Cubase to, say, C drive /users/yourname/ Steinberg/blah blah are backed up to another drive. and if all else fails you can retrieve them easily. Cheers!
Thanks for explaining the queue Dom. It is a very useful update. But this is still essentially the same process it's always been: Export stems correctly. What would be really impressive would be an algorithm that somehow replicated a usable interface for the insert VSTs used that you've inevitably lost, stably.
Not just production houses need this kind of stuff. I did a remix for an artist, probably 15 years ago or so. They gave me the stems for the track to work with at the time. Many years later, they came to me - "hey, do you still have the stems for that track? We need them, and we've lost our copy of everything." Yup. I sure did.
