Dom, thank you for this video. Exclusive Expanded Rack is going to save me so much time! Also, the Stereo Combined Panner is something I've often wondered about, and NOW I know.
Thank you SO MUCH for this! I've been composing for years, slowly started recording on Cubase (still find it challenging with accidental button presses or setting-changes having unexpected consequences and i usually don't know what I did!). Now for the first time, I'm recording a demo for our two-person band and i am starting to learn the basics of mixing. This was useful and understandable to a total mixing noob. I LOVE that you zoom and and show where you click exactly. Finally, video tutorials that don't rush through without showing what you are doing! And any programme related terminology was supported by showing what it is called in Cubase. A lot of tutorials just throw around terminology without really telling you what they are talking about. Thank you thank you thank you! 😃
I too appreciate that he spent the time showing zoom inserts of where exactly he clicked. It would have taken him some time to edit those into his videos too. Much appreciated and very classy. So many times (with other people’s videos) I have to shuffle and try to pause in the exact moment just to see where exactly they clicked. He truly is a production master, audio and video.
i really love the modular mixer of cubase, what i do is to keep my projects organised, besides color coding and using the visability agents, i have all my tracks within folders, for example all drum channels are in a folder called drums, all guitars in a folder called guitar. etc.. in the visiability view on the left side, you can easily and swiftly use the folders to just view all the channels that are within this folder, i find this very convenient too
Thanks for the video, Dom! Great as always. I'd add a couple of tricks that are not very obvius but very useful: - Holding the left mouse button "e" button from the fader section opens the VST Instrument from that channel, if there is one. - Holding ALT while clicking on the bypass button of an insert disables it completely as it was not loaded, preventing it from using any CPU or adding latency.
Fantastic tips Dom, explained at a super pace for us busy people yet so clearly! Sometimes I feel I spend too much time learning detail but these, as many of your video tips, are such time saving features that the watching time is always recovered over and over 😍 Thanks so much.
Hello Dom as always great video congratulations! I use a very convenient function in the mixer by positioning the mouse arrow inside the Pan Balance and holding down alt by clicking with the left of the mouse a large panning window opens and is really very convenient
"Show channels with data at cursor position/between locators". I never realised that was there, and it's so useful. Thanks! I also recently discovered holding the Solo button for Solo defeat. So many great things in the Mix Console!
Extremely useful, Dom, and you explained so well ! I knew only few of this hidden functions, and I will use most of them from now on, thanks to your video. Every time I see one of your videos, I discover new interesting things, and I love Cubase a little more.
This guy is really amazing. 👏👏 Although I've been in audio mixing game for past 1-1.5 years but everytime I open youtube, I check for his great knowledgeful videos. Thanks a lot Dom. This channel is a blessing 🙌 for the new comers..
Thanks, was very helpful because in the daily work you stick with your settings and concentrate on the content. Always good to have a refresher from time to time :-)
I love the Thumbnail picture on this video, so cool. Actually, the Raven Desk by Steven Slate is literally a touch-screen console that looks just like that.
Great video (as always) but the best feature in my opinion would be the Channel Visibility Configurations. Especially in combination with a hardware fader controller. I have an Icon Qcon ProX + 1 extender (so 16 channel faders total) so I have direct acces to the 8 configurations. I set up 1 for Drums, 1 for Guitars, 1 for Vocals, 1 for Synths etc. So I can easily go from Synths to Drums at the push of a button, without having to be banking through maybe over a hundred channels.....
N°1 Meter Bridge with Waves is the killer for me, some others are also nice revelations ... Didn't know about meter bridge... Thank You Dom... Wonderful Tutorial, as usual....
Niiiice, thanks for giving us new content for the weekend, Dom. 🤘. By the way, if you guys have a Console fader and an SSL UF8, try using them together as an 18 channel board. I’m digging it. No waste!
Hey Dom amazing video as always ! I wonder if you could make a tutorial in Cubase 11 Pro about rendering stems with send fx and sidechain to different elements of the mix , stems to other engineers to mix so they would need each part as heard in the mix but in Solo, I made it by following some forum guides but Im sure you know an easier way
In all my years of using Cubase I genuinely did not know about number 7. It seems like the most basic tip in this video and I legit never knew such a function existed.
Hi Dom, sorry for the off topic question but it's quick : there are plenty of Steinberg interfaces out there and I'm a bit lost. Could you point me to the best one that is portable and I can carry for traveling (for songwriting sessions mostly) ? Thanks a lot 🙏🏻
Hey Dino! How many inputs do you need? I would say the UR22C or the UR44C, both work bus powered from a MacBook Pro or an iPad with USB-C and they are really nice interfaces. I, myself have a soft spot for the UR-RT range that has the Neve transformers but they are definitely heavier and bulkier and not bus powered :)
@@DomSigalas i Only need 2 inputs ans outputs, good enough for toplining or record a guitar quick. I heard great things about UR22 mk2, might get this one probably. Thank you!
Dom in Tip one when you switched to waveform you seemed to manipulate where you were using your CC121 how would you do that if you don't have a CC121 and just have the mouse or computer keyboard?
If Steinberg is listening... individual track CPU usage meter would be next level. Been having trouble deciphering which plugins are crushing my session
the Cubase Performance Meter doesnt show the CPU performance! It shows something much more important, if you want to understand what they show, search in YT "Richard Ames Music CPU Performance vs. Real-Time Performance in Digital Audio Workstations" also understand what DPC Latency is (search Resplendence Website in Google).
This is so good. I have 1 monitor connected to my laptop. To have the 3 mixer consoles I would need to connect 2 monitors. How do I do that? Thank you Dom
Hey Dom -- I keep my mixer unattached to my main window. Any idea how to lock my main output to the right of that? Your explanation (part 14) works great when using the lower zone, but not sure how to do it when the mixer is unattached. Many thanks for any help!
What about the scrolling up/down ability inside the mix console? My scroll wheel doesn't work there and I have to grab the thin slider on the right each time, which may be pretty annoying. Even sometimes trying to scroll causing unwanted paramaters changes in the channel settings. Is there any settings solution?
Hello Dom. You are on a 4K monitor using windows? With 4K resolution my waveforms are blurry. Everything looks perfect except the events waveforms. Anyone having the same problem?
@@DomSigalas I’m using 3840 x 2160. Then I scale windows to 175% so I can read better. With the recommended 150% it’s the same. So yes, native resolution and Hdpi enable. Everything looks very sharp except the most important thing, the waveforms. Are you on windows 10? Really appreciate your support. Thank you
@@gustavodinis 175% is a bit too much to be honest. Try and disable HDPI and see if it works better. Windows are a bit fiddly with resolution magnifications unfortunately. I hear W11 will resolve issues like this .
Hey Dom! I have a question on tip #3! Is that latency compensated by the DAW or do we have to move the waveform (or the channel latency) the same amount, for that matter?
@@DomSigalas I am using cubase since sx1 and it's been about a year that I started using v.10... So some things are surely better and easier but as you know, the habits are still there to make my life difficult for no reason!

Aaah thank you! I expreiment with different mics every time. I use the SM7b but on this video I am using the Sennheiser 416 - I had been using this microphone for ages in post production studios I used to work and I find it works pretty well for my videos too :)
Just enjoyed your new single on Spotify - Futile We Are! Sounds like you used a real grand piano for the recording, very nice stereo sound. I heard some Chopin influence, but maybe because he is my favorite.
How to stick the stereo out to right side as a default. The issue is. Every time I open cubase I have to stick it to the right side of the mix console.. that's is really annoying. I want this as a default set up.
i knew this things all! except 2:06 what is happen there???????? always a great master magician domm!!!!!!!

How cool would it be if you could set the pre or post fader meter mode..... PER TRACK. :)

It depends on how many monitors your GPU can support. Mine supports up to 4 monitors :) Then you can drag each mixer to the monitor you wish :)
Does the mixer have custom visibility? Can I set up something to see just my drums, for example?
The Dom!

I can't think of any occasion where a picture of Ariana Grande is wrong 😍
It would be amazing if you could just place the meter position at any point of the channel strip, in particular after the Pre section :(
Hello Dom. You are on a 4K monitor using windows? With 4K resolution my waveforms are blurry. Everything looks perfect except the events waveforms. Anyone having the same problem?
