I too was overweight, actually obese, my doctor pointed it out. Wanted me to do something about it. Three years ago I took it very seriously lost close to 100 pounds. It’s really a multifactor approach to do that, including a combination of eating Whole Foods, high protein, eliminating highly processed foods, seed oils, carbs, and sugars, as well as intermittent fasting, and of course exercise, which I’ve come to love. I’ve been within the same weight range for the past two years, which was my college weight and I will never go back to those old ways. Hearing a doctor like her promote being overweight is absolutely disgusting. She should be stripped of her license to practice medicine.

    • @1tommyday

Please do as much as you can before you get older. If you are over 40 being obese will start affecting your physical state and comfort greatly.
Joints, backs and body tissue hate extra pounds as you age. I'm not even mentioning the harm visceral fat does to internal organs, the heart and liver (all what these " doctors" won't tell their patients)
I'm 55 and I have long term Lyme Disease which I manage everyday to keep low in my body ( it was a 3 year nightmare getting to this point). I'm overweight, but not excessively. I gained 15 pounds from last year at this time and I feel evry ounce of that in my joints and back. I'm losing it very soon because I hate it.
Make the investment in yourself. You wil be very glad you did.

Many years ago, I was overweight from eating too much junk and, eventually, my cholesterol went up. My doctor told me I had to lose weight, to "exercise more and eat less". So I did. It wasn't easy, but I eventually lost over 25 kgs, and have kept it off. When I go to see the same GP, he still weighs me (without asking for my permission), and is pleased that I am still in the healthy weight range, as am I. He also takes my blood pressure without asking my permission (and that's always fine too). He also deals with whatever actual reason I went in for.
He actually does his job, and I am very grateful for him.

      @christopherkopperman8108 10 месяцев назад +2

First, the Hippocratic oath isn't legally binding. Second, "First, do not harm" is a different piece of work and is about the idea that you start from the stance of not intentionally harming the patient. Of course you may cause some harm if that will ultimately heal them (such as surgery). The really interesting thing is the sentence that does mention harm. "I will use those dietary regimens which will benefit my patients according to my greatest ability and judgment, and I will do no harm or injustice to them". Translated from the original Greek. They don't use it anymore because it goes on to talk about poison and not causing an abortion. But "dietary regimens" is the important part there. I believe that modern oath's closest ideal is "I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure." Anyway, no US medical school uses the original Hippocratic Oath anymore. So you are correct, they didn't take the oath. No doctors do. But all doctors take an oath; unless you look it up you won't know which one as they very school to school.

Knowing someone's weight is very important. Doctors need to know your weight so they can know how much medicine to give you. Too much of certain types of meds can kill you if a doctor or nurse just guesses and gives you the meds anyways. I'm a heavy person, but I don't care that my doctor weighs me. I'm not stupid and delusional to the fact that I'm overweight. But I also don't want someone guessing my weight to gives me important medicine if need be.

    Heart
    Lungs
    Skin Health
    Brain Health
    Joints
    Gastric
    Menstrual Cycle
    Immune System
    MEDICATION DOSING
    Healing, etc. etc.
For example, look up "Idiopathic intracranial hypertension". It happened to my 14-year-old niece. She's blind now.
I am not saying that being overweight automatically causes health problems. But we need to consider additional factors such as genetics, diet, age, and lifestyle. That being said, weight is something that needs to be considered in ANY and ALL medical diagnoses. Duh.

Instead of saying "I'm gonna lose 20 pounds by summer and keep it all off all year long" you should say "if I could cut 500 calories from my diet per week in addition to burning 1000 calories each week, then I should see some progress. New habits are formed after 21 days, so with that in mind combined with setting up my schedule and environment to avoid the pitfalls that can derail me, then it's likely that I can hit the 20 pounds lost goal or something slightly different which may be better... let's see. Actually, it is correct to not focus on losing weight. We should focus on being healthy and the weight, nausea and other issues will resolve themselves. But they are symptoms of an unhealthy situation. So they should not be ignored, especially to shield a patient from having hurt feelings.
Getting healthy and slimmer is really as simple as removing the sugar, grains, seed oils, chemicals and other crap from your diet.
Fruit is really sugar in disguise too.
You really only need meats and vegetables'.
Lots of water and do some exercise everyday.
You don't even need a gym, just make a routine with your own body weight, stretching and calisthenics.

I'm fairly certain if you are a doctor and you tell your patient it's okay to not do anything about a health problem you notice, you are going against your oath to "Do no harm." The problem I have with people saying that their doctor only wants to focus on their weight is that usually these people also only want to focus on their weight but in the reverse direction. They refuse to accept that other health conditions are caused or exacerbated by the same choices that lead to a vast majority of obesity. They will also refuse to seek a second opinion from a licensed physician or specialist, instead turning to TikTok where they'll be told it's okay and that those mean doctors are just bigots.

This "TikTok doctor" is beyond insane, assuming that everyone is rude, and don't already advocate for others being safe and healthy in a non-threatening way. Im so sick and tired of being labeled an ism/ist just because we want to be healthy in terms of body, mind, country and soul.
