Dans son laboratoire, Catherine étudie avec ses collègues la sensibilité et les réponses des arbres face aux stimulations mécaniques. L’arbre qu’on croyait immobile bouge de vrais mouvements coordonnés, il corrige sa posture et intègre plusieurs signaux à la fois, la perception de la verticale et celle de sa forme propre / In her laboratory, Catherine studies with her colleagues the sensitivity and the responses of trees to mechanical stimulation. The trees that were believed to be motionless, move with real coordinated movements; they correct their posture and integrate several signals at once, the perception of the vertical and the perception of their own form.

Docteure en physiologie végétale, Catherine enseigne la Botanique à l’Université Clermont Auvergne et travaille au Laboratoire de Physique et physiologie Intégratives de l’Arbre en environnement Fluctuant (PIAF). Intervenante dans la formation continue en sciences des professeurs d’écoles et de collèges à la Maison pour la Science en Auvergne, qu’elle dirige depuis septembre 2016, Catherine s’investit aussi dans la diffusion de la culture scientifique au grand public / With a PhD in plant physiology in Catherine teaches Botany at the University of Clermont Auvergne and works at the Laboratory of Integrative Physics and physiology of the Tree in Fluctuating environment (PIAF). As a lecturer in permanent education for schools and colleges science teachers at the House for Science in Auvergne that she managed since September 2016, Catherine is also involved in the dissemination of scientific culture to the general public This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
