    Love your videos guys! As a 50yr old who runs a 1:28 HALF, 5:20 mile, 39:40 10K I watch every video and do exactly per your teaching. Your information is priceless! Thank you 🙏🏼

    I use to compete in all disciplines until I was 42 and gave it up, alcohol took over my life until I was 57. Now sober for 6 months I've started again and it's extremely difficult. At this very moment I am getting ready to do a Park run...Update completed it at 24:04, wow that was tough. I'm going to do next week's event. Update, completed this one at 23:49,still tough. I'll try again next week..

    58 male. Did 8x800m on track every set 4:15/km. 35days to halfmarathon race. Goal under 1:40. McMillan program. Heart beat was about anaerobic threshold. Some little over when headwind.

    The chart is just illustrative showing stats for the top 20% of runners in each age category, I doubt many runners would achieve that as a younger runner. Better to target the 50% percentile where the paces are more realistic. For a 50 year old running 5k that’s 28 minutes which is achievable with consistent, balanced training. That said if targeted running is your thing there are equally satisfying ones to go for other than pace; such as what’s the best running pace you can achieve for your lowest heart rate. Start around 130 bpm. Or build duration; can you make an hour? Even then there is another stat floating around which is that only 6% of the population run at all, so you’re already at the front of the queue.

    I guess Vo2mx will tell me if my pace is good or not!!! Vo2mx of 47( as per my watch), I run 10K trail at pace of 5:27 Per Km at age of 59. This pace is my zoon 4 and 5.

    Something seems wrong with the half marathon times for males in the chart - times get faster from 50 to 70?

  • @emreon3160
    @emreon3160 2 месяца назад

    Its not pace or speed, its watts.
    So take your weight and your velocoty to determine energy or wattage. If you 210lb muscle vs an anorexic like marathoner your speed its not right way to measure performance.

      Look up age graded standards. Or underWAVA. Or master track and field. You will find it

    • @mikep8857
      @mikep8857 4 месяца назад

      I agree. The table shown in the video is nothing to do with age grades. It's a table of the 80th percentile for different ages, genders and distances. The link given in the notes are for age grades.

    That is BS 5k in 18 minutes IS NOT AVERAGE

    • @matthewsanders6499
      @matthewsanders6499 4 месяца назад

      you might be misreading it. The "50" mark is not the percentile, it is the age group. The chart refers to the 80th percentile, saying that an age 50 male running 18min 5k is at the 80th percentile of performance.

    • @tomvandenbroek
      @tomvandenbroek 4 месяца назад

      I really doubt that stat, I am guessing these are times listed for real athletes. Not the whole population. I mean this would mean that one in five males of age 50 would be able to run 5K in 18 minutes...I don't think so

    • @justinnevins107
      @justinnevins107 4 месяца назад +1

      @@tomvandenbroekyou are correct. It's not a percentile, it's age grade score. 80 Age Grade Score is less than top 1% of runners in that age group. They misrepresent this in the video.

      4min / km with extra 20kg is for special forces. 4x5 = 20min. 5k in 18 minutes for 50+ years old? Forget about it

    This video was incredibly disheartening and makes me think i shouldn't be running. I just turned 50, ive been running for about a year and a half and my 5k times are just over 31 minutes. Im supposed to be around 18 minutes?? I must be way at the bottom i guess.

      These are trained athletes who compete in the Masters, so they are best times. Just running for a year without proper training plan that builds speed will not make you faster.

    • @gtromble
      @gtromble 4 месяца назад +5

      No, with just running for 18 months you've got a lot of room to bring your time down. I'm 67 and my 5K time is 24 min currently but I know it can be faster. I question the value of a video that pigeonholes people based on age. Just keep training smart and see what happens.
