I think the best part about this type of fishing is what fishing should be at it's core. Enjoying yourself at an easy pace. You don't have to take the weekend off of work or do any long term planing.
+skiie Definitely agree with that, Skiie. Multi-Species fishing is a very chilled sub-field of the sport. Thanks for watching! Tight lines and fish on!
I just watched your video again. Since I watched this the first time I can't stop thinking about "micro fishing". I love the thought of catching and collecting pictures of all the different species. Often times I use a pocket fisherman from my kayak to catch bait but I admit that sometimes I just fish with that for awhile because I enjoy catching the variety of small fish. I find that to actually go out and fish with the focus being species identification inspiring.
+Kayak Chris I am glad that you are enjoying the aspects of micro-fishing and multi-species fishing, Chris! Micro-Fishing is certainly not well accepted in the fishing community. As a matter of fact, it is highly underrated. The beauty of Micro-Fishing lies in the fact that there are hundreds of micro-Species in North America that do not grow or rarely grow past 6 inches! In other words, folks who disregard micro-fishing will never be able to see, catch, and experience those hundred Species of fish -- most of them native to the USA! Darters, Shiners, Daces, Wrasses, etc...you name it -- all of those fishes are truly gorgeous; they are small miracles that are fundamental for the overall aquatic ecosystems here. That is one reason why I like to portray micro-fishing here on the Channel. Tight lines and fish on!
You've inspired me to try multi species fishing more seriously! I listed all the species that I can remember catching, and I'm up to 97 so far. I'll be looking to break 100 this spring.
Leo, I love the fact that your a Multi-Species angler! It makes for much more interesting and fascinating videos.. So much cooler than being a Bass Angler!
There's parrot fish, Sargent majors, tarpon, etc I mean I fish with the best fishermen in Palm Beach county so I know more than a lot of people so places I go are either picked out on a map is I found it just messing around.
Thank you very much, Dillon! I do indeed respect all Species of fish out there. :) Safe fish handling skills are crucial when it comes to Multi-Species fishing. Tight lines and thanks for watching!
I know this is an older video, but awesome job. I'm headed down south in January, thanks for the spot, i'll be going here for sure! I am an aquarium enthusiast as well as a fisherman, so this hit's on 2 of my hobbies!
WOW, Very surprised at how similar the species are between Fort Lauderdale and here in Hawai'i even though a whole ocean apart separated by 2 continents. That Scrawled Filefish we call in Hawaiian "Lo'ulu" (low-oo-loo), and that Bermuda Chub we call "Nenue" (neh-nuh-weh), the Sergent Major we call Mamo (mah-moh), and that Doctorfish we call Palani (pah-lah-nee). Both the filefish, and Bermuda Chub are preferred eat raw here, and the bigger Sergent Major are cleaned and fried up whole like you might do with Bluegills. The Doctorfish we also fry up but be careful when gutting as they are herbivores with their digestive system full of stinky digesting seaweed so don't cut the gut and contaminate the flesh. I have a Chinese friend from Toronto, Canada who comes to visit here and he is constantly adding to his species list. I think we added over a dozen new species to his list on his last trip here. You can read about it here: muskiebaitadventures.blogspot.ca/2016/01/2016-hawaii-oahu-day-1.html Mahalo nui for the great video!
+Ji F. Very good information right here, Ji! Thank you very much for sharing all this golden stuff! Hah. And as for MuskieBait Adventures, I have never talked to him; however, I have seen his photos here and there from time to time. :) I know a group of folks from Roughfish.com and Specieshunter.com, so I am always checking those guys' photos out there. Thank you very much for watching and tight lines, brother!
weqrfawe I really love carp fishing and I also love fishing in the salt water for horse mackerel and different types of gobies...Actually I created a channel in Enhlish called "Novice Hunter"...
+Acemi Avcı Thank you very much for watching and following the Channel, Acemi! Hope the fishing is going great in Turkey! Can't wait to go there one day. Tight lines!
+nick costa Hah. Yeah. When the Lookdown (_Selene volmer_) splashed down there, I thought it wouldn't make it! Thankfully, the fish swam away just fine. LOL. Tight lines, Nick!
fun video! I love catching all kinds of fish, but my best memories are days filling a stinger with bluegill and pumpkinseeds or similar fish. one day I'll get to travel more and add more salt water species to my list!
+Retz Actually, it does look like it would hurt the fish; however, with that amount of *gravity* and *surface tension,* the fish would be uninjured. If you want to read more about how tossing them back doesn't hurt them, feel free to read my scientific article on it: extremephillyfishing.blogspot.com/2015/10/do-fishes-get-hurt-when-they-are-thrown.html Tight lines, Retz!
Do you wash your reels after using them in salt water? If you don't just take off your reels and soak them in hot soapy water and spray your rods with a hose.
+Brenden Robeson That is actually a really good question. If the reel/rod is expensive, I definitely clean them up. Otherwise, I just leave them be due to my lack of time. I appreciate your suggestion, tough! Tight lines and fish on!
+Turnup Pigeon Thank you very much, Turnup Pigeon! I will try my best to get together with 1Rod this Spring; however, we both have hectic schedules! Lol. Tight lines and fish on!
You got any tips on finding out if a fishing spot is overly polluted. The place im fishing has no trash nor does it smell like crap. But it is under a bridge next to some rail road tracks. I check for disease and every fish i catch is beautifully healthy but ive yet to catch any full grown pan fish. Keep making good videos mate👍
+Kayak Chris Thanks for watching and stopping by, Kayak Chris! I just checked your Channel and you have some good contents there. I like the fact that you reveal where you fish, giving the general public a chance to catch some fish as well! I subscribed. Tight lines and fish on!
Huge fan of your videos, but the rig in these saltwater ones makes me cringe a little. I would STRONGLY recommend either a dropper with the hook above the weight, or a carolina rig so the fish can grab the bait without feeling the weight. It's amazing how many more fish you'll hook if they don't feel that 1-2oz weight pulling against them when they grab the bait (you also feel the fish grab the bait without the fish having to move that weight to give you an indication). Tight Lines!
+Nolan Minor Thanks, Nolan. I remember you -- you were the person who recommended me those Power Eggs. I appreciate all the suggestions as well -- I did try some of your setups, as well as free lining my bait for some different Species of fish. In this video; however, I use my setup with 2 oz. coin sinker because I am trying to get my stuff down there as fast as possible, so that other smaller Species of fish (and Filefish) don't steal my bait. Tight lines and fish on, Nolan!
+Extreme Philly Fishing You can use as much weight as you want, you'll hook more fish if you don't have the weight between you and the fish which can be achieved with a carolina rig or a dropper rig. Florida is an incredible place, I really enjoy your videos from there. The variety is insane!
Nolan Minor I see your point now and I agree! With a rig where the sinker is below the hook, I would be able to feel the fight much better. Totally right! Thanks again for the suggestion, Nolan! Tight lines!
make a micro species salt water. you can dive for clownfish etc get a 75 gal or 125 and add live rock and catch your fish like tangs etc one for fresh and salt :D
Maybe in the future, Abu! For now, I am starting with a small 55 gallon tank, freshwater. Maybe in the future I will have my own salt-water tank, so everyone here can take a look at it. ;) Tight lines and thanks for watching!
+Blake Hix That is awesome, Blake! Micro-Fishing for the win. I am glad to hear that you have been catching them down there in Georgia. Tight lines and thanks for watching!
+weqrfawe Thank you very much, Will! Truly appreciate all the support that you have given me up to date. Hopefully the Channel will grow much more. Tight lines and fish on!
+Andrew “Fishing Addict” That is actually a pretty old camera, Andrew. It was a Sony Exmor R AVCHD with 18.2 megapixels. I am pretty sure that you can find something better than that in the market nowadays. The camera itself cost $360 back in the days. Tight lines and thanks for watching!
Liked seeing so many virities thanks for brining me back to my childhood in marathon fl I made 40 bucks a day selling live pinkish to bait shops and all the other species you cought to a large aquarium dealer. Didn't like seeing the look down fish splat so hard
+Spenser Blakeney I go by the motto of _"Better safe than sorry."_ While it is true that all the fishes that I have caught here are micro fishes, you never know when a big one will hit! Especially when you fish on top of the Anglin's Pier in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Therefore, I prefer to have my drag set on the looser side, so I don't damage my fishing equipment if a bigger one hits. Tight lines and fish on, Spenser!
+Ca Pa I didn't include the Doctorfish in the list of Species because there is no Doctorfish in this video, Ca Pa. :) The Species portrayed in this video is the Atlantic Blue Tang (_Acanthurus coeruleus_), which is different than the Doctorfish Tang (_Acanthurus chirurgus_). Tight lines!
+Extreme Philly Fishing The Atlantic Blue Tang is a solid blue and may have a yellow tail. The tang you caught had prominent stripes which is not found in Blue Tangs, only in the Doctorfish. Also, the only blue in that tang is in its fins. It is mostly gray.
+Steve Molina That is correct, Steve. I do own a Shimano Antares D.C. 7; however, I use spinning gear for my Multi-Species fishing. Tight lines and fish on!
+weqrfawe Thanks, Will! Some people were complaining that the old font wasn't visible because the depth was too thin. I agreed on it, so I changed it. Hah. Tight lines!
Hello from the uk could you! or put me onto someone who could identifi a small fish if i sent a photo caught in cuban waters? please thanks for your time great videos.
+Kickingtheirbasstv Yes. I know 1Rod1ReelFishing in real life. He is my good friend Mike Hsiao. We used to fish together in Philadelphia way before we started all this social media stuff. Awesome fella! Tight lines, Kickingtheirbasstv!
+Genuine Outdoors02 Thanks, Genuine Outdoors02! I don't know yet when I will be meeting 1Rod1ReelFishing again. Lol. We will see! Hopefully soon. Tight lines and fish on!
+Kai Joswig Since I am a Multi-Species angler, monotony is what kills me. Catching one or two of a certain Species is okay, but if there are *tons* of them around...oh boy! Not a good thing. Hahaha. Tight lines, Kai!
+Dillan Robeson It depends on what I am trying to catch and how is the current of the place. For the Anglin's Pier, you could even go weightless! :) Tight lines, Dillan!
just so you know 1rod1reelfishing doesn't always put his hand in a fish's mouth he doesn't do if it has sharp or pronounced teeth he only does it with bass and bluegill or sunfish
I know that, Kodashot cod. I am always pulling his leg on that because of an internal joke between him and I. Back in the days, he used to lip anything. Hah. He lipped a Brook Trout (_Salvelinus fontinalis_) once and got cut real bad, for example. Hah. Tight lines and thanks for watching!
+Extreme Philly Fishing tip from me if you want to catch so many different species in one place, go deep sea fishing on the Florida keys. you catch all different types of snapper, small grouper, puffers, everything!
+Dimitri August Actually, it didn't. Fish don't really suffer any injuries from that height, doesn't matter what the surface tension is when it hits the water. If you want more details on this, feel free to read the scientific post that I made on it a while back: extremephillyfishing.blogspot.com/2015/10/do-fishes-get-hurt-when-they-are-thrown.html Tight lines and fish on, Dimitri!
Just came back from Fort Lauderdale, The clash King. Expect videos to come up on the Channel! I used squid, shrimp, and even live fish this time. :) Tight lines and thanks for watching!
+Gabriel Lamas I would say so, Gabriel. And I bet some folks down there eat some of them. Since I was down there only for a few days, I did all catch and release. Tight lines and fish on!
Thank you very much, Richard! I do not work with fish; however, I have read a lot of books on fishes, including didactic books on ichthyology. Thus, I am a little bit knowledgeable about them. :) Thank you very much for watching and following the Channel! Tight lines and fish on!
Hello Leo, The fish you caught was a small Permit. Diagnostic features are a) Yellowy orange colouration on belly confined to a spot just in front of the anal fin (would be more extensive on a pompano b) As far as I can tell the leading edges of the dorsal and anal fin are directly in line vertically... in a pompano the dorsal fin is set more forward of the anal. c) Shape of the head... in the permit the forehead rises sharply then slopes backward whereas the line is a more gentle curving slope on the Florida pompano d) Much larger V to the tail on the permit than the pompano e) Although difficult to see I think your fish has 21 or fewer rays in the dorsal fin... a pompano has typically more than 22 and up to 28 f) Lastly and easy to see is the very long first rays of the dorsal fin forming a long backward pointing spike... it would be much shorter and more erect on a pompano. Hope this helps. Michaela x
I appreciate your very detailed feedback here, Michaela! That was definitely a Permit (_Trachinotus falcatus_) indeed. Hopefully this time I will be able to catch the Florida Pompano (_Trachinotus carolinus_) this time, since I will be going down there on the 4th of July! :) Tight lines and thanks for watching!
+The GamingSnivy For bait, I was using small pieces of squid. As for gear, I was using a medium-light St. Croix avid pearl with a Shimano Sedona 2500 FD. Tight lines, The GamingSnivy!
+Cody Valdovino Hah. On the surface, +1Rod1ReelFishing seems to be a Bass angler. But in reality, he is a veteran with at least 19 different Species of fish under his belt: extremephillyfishing.smugmug.com/1Rod1ReelFishing-The-Roots/1Rod1ReelFishings-MultiSpecies/ Tight lines, Cody!
Hah. When I was younger, I was always afraid of touching fish too. But the more I learned about a fish's physiology, the more I knew how to handle them. Little by little, I got comfortable. Hopefully that will happen to you as well, Touching All Of the Things! Tight lines and thanks for watching!
Its so weird how you could be at the tip of Florida but technically gulf side shore and catch totally different fish than the Atlantic. I honestly don't get it.
+Drew Jrolf The skinny fish was actually a Lookdown (_Selene volmer_). The Atlantic Moonfish (_Selene setapinnis_) is similar to the Lookdown, not to mention that both of them have the same genus. The difference lies in the dorsal and anal fins -- the Moonfish doesn't have them long. The Lookdown, on the other hand, has very long lobes on both fins. Tight lines, Drew!
the sergeant major...i get a bread it is on my hand and tons n tons of sergeant majaor blast into my face........and i was like -_- what the craaaap!!!!!
+Kent Santiago They are nuisance fish for folks who fish for bigger Species. Hahaha. For a Multi-Species angler like me, catching them is equally nice. Tight lines, Kent!

very nice leo---amazing how different the species are as compared to our mid atlantic types!!
+Flytrap Man Thanks, Flytrap Man! Florida is definitely a small paradise for Multi-Species angling! I love it! Tight lines and fish on!
well a good tip when you are fishing in Florida fish the bridges. boyton inlet is a good place for reef fish and tarpon
+Nick Boivin Awesome, Nick! Thanks for the feedback. I will definitely keep Boyton Inlet in mind. Tight lines and fish on!

it's so awesome of how much you care and know about the fish

We call Permit, Snub-Nosed Dart and that Lookdown, a Diamond trevally, over here in Australia
I know this is an older video, but awesome job. I'm headed down south in January, thanks for the spot, i'll be going here for sure! I am an aquarium enthusiast as well as a fisherman, so this hit's on 2 of my hobbies!
Omg that noise the lookdown made was hilarious. It sounded like someone got slapped
Great vid! I love multi-species fishing!

Extreme Philly Fishing wasn't the first fish called a Black Bream here in the UK?
fun video! I love catching all kinds of fish, but my best memories are days filling a stinger with bluegill and pumpkinseeds or similar fish. one day I'll get to travel more and add more salt water species to my list!
That is awesome, Niendermeier! Thanks for sharing! Good memories for sure. Tight lines and thanks for watching!
love your vids. You are insane smart with knowing the scientific names, I bet you would make an amazing reef tank owner.
keep them coming!
The thud from the Lookdown hitting the water, daaaaaamn that's gotta hurt.

Hey +Extreme Philly Fishing what kind of camera are you using and how much does it cost? Not the GoPro but the small black one. Thanks!

Are you allowed to keep the fish
Great vid so far
+Tyler Suarez Thanks for watching and following the Channel, Tyler! Tight lines!

+ryan ben Definitely planning to in the future. Next trip down there, I may even live line a Slippery Dick! :) Tight lines, Ryan!

+Im Not Your Daddy Good one. Haha. Tight lines, Im Not Your Daddy!
1rod1reel is a bass fisherman and they dont have big teeth the can rip you up but some ocean fish have teath
+FaZe Jason Definitely! 1Rod1ReelFishing does a great job at catching Bass, FaZe Jason. Thanks for watching! Tight lines!
Can you eat scrawled filefish?
What kind of weight do u prefer pier fishing extremephillyfishing
Hah. Tight lines and thanks for watching!
you can have a awesome reef tank
+Jared August If I lived in Florida, you bet I would have an aaaaaweeeeesome fish tank. Hah. Tight lines, Jared!
I personally looooove multi species fishing
+Tyler Heroux That is awesome, Tyler Heroux! Multi-Species for the win! Tight lines and fish on!
+Extreme Philly Fishing tip from me if you want to catch so many different species in one place, go deep sea fishing on the Florida keys. you catch all different types of snapper, small grouper, puffers, everything!
what bait you using
I'm heading to Tampa in 3-4 days , I just need to know if they are edible 😋
Amazing video
+drake torno Thank you very much, Drake! Tight lines and fish on!
It probably hurt so bad when that flat fish hit the water😂😂
+Dimitri August Actually, it didn't. Fish don't really suffer any injuries from that height, doesn't matter what the surface tension is when it hits the water. If you want more details on this, feel free to read the scientific post that I made on it a while back: extremephillyfishing.blogspot.com/2015/10/do-fishes-get-hurt-when-they-are-thrown.html Tight lines and fish on, Dimitri!
If I was you next time you come to Florida use shrimp for bait but cut it up in chunks and fish with ig
Just came back from Fort Lauderdale, The clash King. Expect videos to come up on the Channel! I used squid, shrimp, and even live fish this time. :) Tight lines and thanks for watching!
Shots fired at 1rod haha
Those fish cruising the "shallows" were snook
+Ryan Kopplin Were they? That is good to know! Next time I will definitely attempt to throw a live critter in front of them. Tight lines, Ryan!
Are all the fish you caught edible?
+Gabriel Lamas I would say so, Gabriel. And I bet some folks down there eat some of them. Since I was down there only for a few days, I did all catch and release. Tight lines and fish on!
do yoy work with fish? you seem much more knowledgeable than your normal fisherman. love the channel!
Thank you very much, Richard! I do not work with fish; however, I have read a lot of books on fishes, including didactic books on ichthyology. Thus, I am a little bit knowledgeable about them. :) Thank you very much for watching and following the Channel! Tight lines and fish on!
Hello Leo,
The fish you caught was a small Permit.
What gear are you using?
And what bait
+The GamingSnivy For bait, I was using small pieces of squid. As for gear, I was using a medium-light St. Croix avid pearl with a Shimano Sedona 2500 FD. Tight lines, The GamingSnivy!
Come too SAN Fran (Bay Area)
That permit is a snub nosed dart
you have really got your money's worth with that rod and a lot of miles on it too. nice !
+MegaBait56 I definitely love it, MegaBait56! I carry it with me everywhere I go now. Hah. Tight lines and thanks for watching, buddy!
does the rod have a fast taper ?
what bait and hook size senpai?????
i feel bad for laughing when the lookdown slap on the water
one rod only catches bass and there teeth is like sandpaper so it doesn't hurt
+Cody Valdovino Hah. On the surface, +1Rod1ReelFishing seems to be a Bass angler. But in reality, he is a veteran with at least 19 different Species of fish under his belt: extremephillyfishing.smugmug.com/1Rod1ReelFishing-The-Roots/1Rod1ReelFishings-MultiSpecies/ Tight lines, Cody!
note to self: do not put my finger inside fish mouth like 1rod 1 reel fishing.
+Lake2Sea Fishing Lmao. That is definitely a good note. Tight lines, Lake2Sea Fishing!
Literally thought the fish died when the thing smacked the water 😂
+Sunni Josephson Me too. Lol. Thankfully, that Lookdown (_Selene vomer_) swam away just fine. Hah. Tight lines, Sunni!
i wish i could touch the fish with my bare hands! 😂😂 Im too scared to touch and unhook fish without a rag or glove
I was too but i got over it just bring hand sanitizer
Hah. When I was younger, I was always afraid of touching fish too. But the more I learned about a fish's physiology, the more I knew how to handle them. Little by little, I got comfortable. Hopefully that will happen to you as well, Touching All Of the Things! Tight lines and thanks for watching!
Yo homie, you need a glove for those spiny pinfish.
nothing like multi species fishing HOOKEM IN THE MOUTH BRO!
Its so weird how you could be at the tip of Florida but technically gulf side shore and catch totally different fish than the Atlantic. I honestly don't get it.
Wish I could have put them all in my aquarium
+Veloni Fishing They would have been a great addition to your fish tank, Veloni. :D Tight lines!
You need one of those fish holding hook thing .. To take better picture , so your hands is not in the way .. But I like the video
You should've used the pin fish as bait, you would Have caught a barracuda
+B Fix That is definitely the plan in the future. I will be bringing some heavier rods on my next trip and live lining fish. Tight lines, B Fix!
The skinny fish you causght was a moon fish
No it wasn't?
+Drew Jrolf The skinny fish was actually a Lookdown (_Selene volmer_). The Atlantic Moonfish (_Selene setapinnis_) is similar to the Lookdown, not to mention that both of them have the same genus. The difference lies in the dorsal and anal fins -- the Moonfish doesn't have them long. The Lookdown, on the other hand, has very long lobes on both fins. Tight lines, Drew!
+Extreme Philly Fishing thank you for replying i was confused myself I thought it was that but then I saw the diffrent colors
File fish are really good eating
That was a permit
+Joshua Suprapto That was a Permit (_Trachinotus falcatus_) indeed, Joshua. Thanks for your input! Tight lines and fish on!
#2 fish we call it a zelwan
please next time you go to Florida (Fort Lauderdale) please try and catch a tarpon.
Atlantic Tarpon (_Megalops atlanticus_) is definitely on my _"to catch"_ list of fishes, Goulburn Valley. Tight lines and thanks for watching!
imagine catching a jack on that set up
fish #2 is a palometa
+Fabian Cardenas Commonly known as the Permit (_Trachinotus falcatus_). Tight lines, Fabian!
Awesome!!
Glad that you enjoyed the video, AA! Tight lines and thanks for watching!
Nice Man
+Simpsorama50 Thanks for watching and stopping by, Simpsorama50! Tight lines!

+Kent Santiago They are nuisance fish for folks who fish for bigger Species. Hahaha. For a Multi-Species angler like me, catching them is equally nice. Tight lines, Kent!
