Sometimes my YT feed fails to 'suggest' stuff that I'm following. I'll have to go back and see what I missed. But let me tell folks that THIS is what you get when a young fella actually learns and does stuff as opposed to living vicariously through some rubbish television crap! ;)
This channel is one of my faves... Bein' an old busted down oil/gas/power generation retiree, you're a breath of fresh air Zach!

The amount of knowledge you have for mechanical engineering is incredible. To think outside of the box and come up with these ideas on how to make all of this work is mind blowing.

As always, it was fun, and I can not wait till I see it in action. When I was younger, my dad owned a well-service company. After 35 years as a drilling engineer, I bought a lease and went to the guy who bought the wells service company from my dad. He still had a bunch of old rigs sitting around, so I negotiated one off of him. I had about as much fun as you are having to get it working my way. I had that nightmare (lease) for 10 years as a retirement project, and it wasn't as much fun as I hoped it would be. Now, I moved to where(Washington state) winters are not -31 degrees, and the wind blows 45 MPH in eastern Montana

I really enjoy watching these videos, while adding the front Jack I would also install a tow hook 🪝to the front of the rig, if you don’t have one already, you never know when you may have to drag it though the mud. I would also consider some guy wires especially if you’re going to drill with it, if it doesn’t have them already. Great job on the drillers consol, looks great!
I would also consider adding one more axle or even a tag axle, to the back if you are going to add a rotary table, or I would consider a removable rotary table to keep the weight off the back while “roading” the rig. Great videos and I can’t wait for the next one!

  • @ruben_balea

I'm glad I'm not the only one expecting too much from a tiny plasma cutter 😅
At a nearby junkyard they have a massive 400A plasma cutter, but when they tried to use it to cut an armoured cash transport van they discovered that whatever type of steel is used to make those vans was too much for a thing that cuts excavators like butter.
They only had oxypropane torches and those had a lot of problems to melt the surface, I wonder if that steel has an outer layer of tungsten or something like that.
Damn, I should have bought a panel to make the ultimate workshop bench 😁

Zach one of the things I like about you, is you don't take 2-3 episodes to do something. "I'm gonna attach this to that". Next scene, is exactly that. No long drawn out anything or other parts of the story. Progress has moved fast on that rig because of it.

When I see you make something some of the times I I watch you do it and my first thought is: That won't work. My next thought is: Oh, NOW I see what he's doing, and my final thought is: wow, that's really slick, what a great idea! The trouble that I've got is when I watched you attach your hydraulic jack to the front of the rig, I never got past my first thought. Here's why. That jack would seem to only need to take force and weight up and down, but it might take even more force forwards and back because when you raise it, or you raise the rear of the jig it's going to want to move the rig forward or back as it tries to adjust to it's center of gravity or as you level the rig. The trouble is that the center of gravity will ALWAYS be off of center, so the jack will either be pushed forward, backward, side to side or some combination of all of those and that will remain as long as the rig is elevated. Not only that but the force will be multiplied a lot by the extension of the piston. Then, if you leave it extended as you work, the constant vibration will also multiply the force. What I'm trying to say is that I don't think your attachment is strong enough for it to raise, and I also don't think you should leave a piston of that size and extended that far in contact with the ground as you work.
Now, you may have something else going on there that I've yet to see, but my Spidey Senses are really tingling right now, and I'd hate to see something happen when your raising it up or working with it extended. Again though, there's a good chance you've already got something in mind because you catch most everything.
Best wishes and thanks for the videos!

Never saw band clamps before but I have a project for a customer that these are exactly what I need!!! Also. don't put the pipe dope on the female side as when you thread it together, it will just push the excess into the line. even though it is soft, it can still migrate somewhere and cause issues with pilot circuits and pump controllers.

next time you have a bushing to remove. Get out the stick or mig welder. Weld both edges and the center. Welding will shrink the bushing and easy to hammer out. Also works on stuck keys in key ways or really any press fit items.
