Reminds me of an interview, they once asked an actress, whether she preferred playing playing the good person or the bad person, she said she preferred the villain, she said there is only one way to play someone good, but there are hundreds of ways to be bad. makes sense, just look at the character, the Joker, same character, yet he has been portrayed in so many different ways.
The part Theron played was of a real life person, so this is much more difficult to do, than just create any bad character, Jack Nicholson is a great actor, but his "crazy" type persona, is basically the same character in every movie, with just a few exceptions. he had the ability to do different type of crazy, but, he was usually typecast for his famous, "the Shining" kind of loony.
When she did 'Monster', it was an awe-inspiring transformation...she's wonderfully talented...
