  • We get into a Civil War era stone liner privy behind an old saloon and end up digging a great figural bitters bottle in MINT condition! This video is "trimmed" a little less than most of our videos, but I wanted to give you viewers the full experience as if you were right there beside us! Hope you enjoy

I’m British. Our old houses had ‘outside toilets’ in Victorian times- but ours had a door at the rear, and once a week the ‘dustmen’ would come and shovel everything out. The rubbish & bottles and fireplace ash would all be thrown down the privy same as yours, but ours were all shovelled out and taken to a local tip and ‘tipped out’. I wish we had privy’s like yours!

They did that here too, but not as often I guess. Some towns more than others, as well. We refer to them as being "dipped". My friend who digs in Utica NY has dug many privies there that are completely empty. Luckily we have only run into that a handful of times in the towns we have dug in

Thanks Steve! Surprised such a large and thin bottle like that survived in this one. This put was very rocky and not much ash to cushion anything

Clay pipes should have maker marks on the little stub on each side those go back to 1700s.

Thanks! This song is actually technically not released yet, but I was given permission to use it. I'm not sure when it will be officially released, but I can ask to find out. Glad you like it!
