Ralph, thanks for the video. I'd been looking for a video that had a decent sound track. The Heisler has a unique exhaust cadence. Not many video's out there in YT land that have a Heisler with any kind of load. I'll be they really barked when under a full load of logs up in the mountains...
It's a real steamer with real smoke. How much of the smoke is due to the quality of coal and how much of the smoke is for the benefit of the photographers only the fireman knows. But I've seen plenty of steam locomotives on film from back in the day that smoked. A "clean" fire was preferred. But not always achieved.

Just like on model railroads, the 'fake' smoke turns me off. Real steamers never smoke this way unless through neglectful firing.
