Lol... no problem guys
So I worked in a warehouse in New Jersey we received store good to be stageat the warehouse before the receiver is able to receive the items... so what we do as lumpers is breakdown the order the height might be to high to store so we have to breakdown the way the receiver wants it so for example if the paper work say height of 11 rolls the receiver wants it broken into to 8 so we have to take off three roll it times there's alot of pallets to breakdown it sounds stupid cause it should have been stored on the pallet the way the receiver wants it to avoid the lumpers fee... instead the driver has to deal with paying for the lumper to off load the truck... meantime driver took like 8 hours to get the product to the warehouse and now to pay a lumper fee to unload is absolutely crazy... to avoid paying a lumper fee you have to breakdown the order yourself
Food and plastic bag and plastic cups paper towels have lumper fees to breakdown the load and yeah they do pay the third party... so for example the driver pays $350 to unload his truck the lumper only gets $70 dollars and the warehouse keeps the rest... I was a lumper unloading 4.000 boxes by hand on a pallet to the exact amount of boxes and height the way the receiver wanted it... back breaker it well take me to unload stack and rap on a pallet to store 8 hours to finish
Lumpers are easy to understand… why the “driver” is involved I don’t get but the lumper is easy to understand. The grocery warehouse or food service warehouse needs to receive their orders stacked such that it fits into their warehouse and shipping it that way would require more trucks , ie. higher shipping cost, so they ship it so that they minimize the number of trucks it would take to haul it and the lumpers break the load down so the warehouse can receive it. The shipper pays the lumper fee but it’s considerably cheaper than shipping it the way the warehouse needs to receive it, so… they (the shipper) pays a lumper to rework one truck rather than paying to move the same freight on multiple trucks.
I appreciate the information. That actually makes a ton of sense. Thank you for watching
its not about counting. it is about saving money. the company has 3rd parties to not have to worry on hiring, benefits and base labor jobs. hiring them is hard. so they just contract it out. home depot is starting it and many in savannah are changing their business model.
Yeah, that makes sense. Thank you for watching
Hope my information helps on why there's a lumper fee
Thank you and thank you for watching
Hey what's up dude I was a lumper it sucks as a job I can explain what lumpers do
I never understood lumpers either. I do not get why we need to pay them to unload their product.
Yeah, I’ll never fully understand it either. Thank you for watching
A war because back in the day your grandpappy and my grandpappy didn't want to unload their stuff so they would find people to do it for them so these companies just made it into a business
They have turned it into a very lucrative business too. It’s crazy what we pay these people. Thank you for watching
Biggest scam to drivers. F lumpers
I agree
It's the bs that you as a driver have to put up with. My client is 100% drop and hook.
Nice, that makes things a lot easier
