My biggest problem with GEJ, always clueless, doesn't even know the state of his country's military. Very confident in his ignorance. So if another country decided to invade Nigeria(the so call giant of Africa) that would be his excuse "we underestimated them". Boko Haram has been oppressing Nigeria for over 6 years, It doesn't take 6years to acquire military weapons, whether there is a threat or not the military should be well equipped. "That is what they said,I am not incharge" well said! you're not in charge, but you're the Commander in Chief of the Armed forces. Always pushing away blames for his ignorance. The only thing he is sure of amongst all those questions is the strength of his political party and that he will win. What a shame!
They will always grant this type of conceding interview whenever they want to commit their usual crime, they granted same to J. Trump, and now Boko Haram is the president of nigeria and their bring back chibok girls placards went down, and they don't speak anymore, watch: ruclips.net/video/i_SBEkpoYCU/видео.html
A lot of failed Nigerians are here castigating the president of Africa most powerful nation Goodluck Ebele Jonathan , arguably the best president ever in the history of Nigeria ! Make no mistake most of jonathan's critics are a miniscule a negligible amount of losers who probably has never managed anything of note in their lives ! God bless you Mr president and God bless Nigeria GEJ4NAIJA !!!
Mr President, the interviewer's job is not to appreciate what you are doing, his job is to get to the truth. And the truth sir is ugly, 200+ girls are still missing, the Nigerian military is weaker than it has ever been, boko haram was routed by Chadians. You can't guarantee security of Nigerians in the north east, where you failed, Idriss Deby has succeeded with less resources, a smaller army and in less time. You can't keep claiming you will "surely win" except you know what the results of the elections are before a single ballot is cast which would amount to tampering. For a country that has produced so many natural leaders across the world, Jonathan's lack of leadership is always painful to watch.
Hard hitting questions are fine, but this dialogue quickly devolved into argumentative, even combative. I am sure the producers pushed this, but I expect something less course from the BBC.
I really don't know where to begin but i was more disappointed with most peoples comments than with the interview. Yes GEJ's english is not great but the issue was not his spoken english but the substance of his responses which i thought was actually fine. We Nigerians must be very careful not to jump on any bandwagon or follow the western media regarding our opinions or conclusions about Jonathan or our great country Nigeria. There is more at stake than what an average Nigerian knows about the importance of this election and all the west cares about is there selfish interest and its no secret that they want Jonathan out. Its a different world now and its time for Africans to look and ask important questions before been followers which has befallen our past leaders and its the reason for our present state of affairs in the continent. I know our leaders including GEJ also need to be blamed but remember that he was a stooge of Obasanjo that decided to be his own man. Besides its time for us to be asking the west for answers for things like, who is funding Boko Haram or selling them weapons, why invade and destroy Libya without any considerations for the implications to other countries in the region, who buys our stolen oil barrels every day, why they refused to sell arms to Nigeria or give them any intelligence, why Africa is suddenly booming after only a few years of Chinese investments, what happened to centuries of western influence…i mean i can go on and on. Now we want to buy into the Rhetoric that an opposition made up of Tinubu, Saraki and Amechi former PDP and Buhari, is the best option for Nigeria despite so many educated and qualified aspirants. We all know the background of this people, i mean its disheartening that some of us are really buying into this guys as the saviour for Nigeria…seems Africans are not learning from our history i hope we are not blind like our past leaders, its time we change the part of our future by using the greatest gift of our century which is the internet. God bless Africa and God bless Nigeria and i pray for free and fair elections.
It's become so cliche to attack an African leader everytime they are interviewed by Western media; Those who thinks its the President's role to impress the interviewer should watch Fox news interview Obama or BBC Radio 4 interview Cameron or Nigel Farage I thought that was a good interview by President Goodluck Jonathan and I'm no Goodluck supporter
For real? It's not about how his English sounds, his ignorance is appalling. He keeps shifting blames. I thought the interview went bad, I don't have to compare him to Barak or Nigel. He looks and sounds like he doesn't just care about Nigeria
you are extremely ignorant of what is going on then. Goodluck Jonathan from day 1 has been a stooge of the western world. When militias in his region of the country were threatening oil interests of America and UK, they encouraged the Nigerian leaders of the time to support someone from the region to become Vice president in hopes that the incessant attacks on oil installations would stop. It worked. Now said militias who still threaten Nigeria's sovereignty are on the payroll of Shell, Exxon and the Nigerian government. Nigerians have never chosen their leaders and when a western stooge like this dude begins to display his incompetence, his puppet masters wash their hands off like they don't know how he got there in the first place. If you are not Nigerian, I apologize for coming hard but the truth has to be told, Jonathan has only been there to protect his corrupt buddies in the oil industry.
He keeps asking the president about the previous administrations mistakes. That has nothing to do with him. Furthermore the interviewer seems to be completely ignorant to how the arms trade works. You don't equip an army overnight, it takes time.
It takes less than six years to equip an army. It recently took them two weeks to equip the army, police men in Nigeria have no guns or uniforms. I see the way politicians loot money in/out of the country, they have expensive houses here in the UK. A commissioner recently bought his wife a house overlooking river Thames. Goodluck spent money last year on private jets and bullet proof prado jeeps. I know this because my uncle is into politics. The truth is that our President doesn't care, he is in it for the money -just like many others.
with all due respect Mr warlord, i believe u are the ignorant in this case, you should follow records of the military leaders reports on the quantity of weapons that are available for them throughout the 5 years period. the chief of army staff over a year ago said "they can win this war with the equipments available for them cos they have more than sufficient". later the same person made Nigeria to borrow a billion dollar for rearmament. despite the 32 billion dollars that was spent in three 3 years earlier. trust me you can invade the whole of west Africa with d weapons worth 32 billion dollars. this is total garbage coming out of the president's mouth.
He pushed the President to point fingers to previous governments and I must say I'm impressed with how he handled the question.Having said that, people that believe that the recent progress with the insurgent is down to election should take their disappointments to past governments before this one, ask them what they spent their military budgets on that led to this present govt having to re-equip the military in a very short period of time. Unfortunately, the people who should be answering these questions are the same that go about criticising the present government on the same issue and the electorate sits and listen. A great country bless with young great minds both home and abroad bent on recycled leadership. The problem isn't corruption, the problem is GREED!
Ray Richmond I see you are trying to support this evil, GEJ. There is no justification for thousands of Nigerians to be killed and millions displaced under his watch. He deliberately refused to mobilize the Nigerian Army because he doesn't truly care about the region that is affected. I see how he tries to shift the blames. Whatever mess Nigeria is in today, GEJ and his political party are responsible; because they have been in power for 16 years, since we had democracy. GEJ couldn't afford weapons during his 6 years in office yet he tries to put the blame on past leaders. How come the weapons have only just arrived because he is trying to win elections? We Nigerians are our biggest problem. It's a shame to see how we celebrate evil. Why on earth should someone like GEJ be given a second chance? Most people support GEJ because they are not victims of all the crisis in Nigeria. None of us is better than the victims. It could have been us.
Mavinz O And the problem of Nigeria doesn't have to do with recycling leaders, it is CORRUPTION. It is very hard to find a Nigerian politician who isn't corrupt. The only man who has been tested and trusted is Buhari. He has a track record of fighting corruption and many people believe that he can clean the system that is why they want him. Buhari ones held the keys to Nigerian's wealth and he never looted our money. Today he is one of the poorest Nigerian politicians because of his values. All the corrupt leaders are afraid because there is speculations that he is coming to jail all of them for their crimes.
Mavinz O As much as I would like to agree with you completely I must point out your blind spots, The soldiers were without weapon in other words regardless of who was the president and unless they have supper powers of some sort they wouldn't have been able to fight the terror with bare hands, in fact, there probably would have been worse military casualties and you will agree, that is no success. I agree with your anger with PDP s 16 years in office as you mentioned however it seems once any of them leaves that party they suddenly become saint. If am wrong most of the people in todays "supposed liberating party" are from the past government you are angry with but somehow you seem to accept them with one eye closed. An ex president of your country whose tenure fall under this "16 years" you mentioned is going about giving lectures on what would have been done and nobody is asking him why the military was under equipped under his watch. You disagreed with my term "recycling leadership" so I ask if these selected few are the only qualified to lead? why are they coming back from retirement to try again and present leaders seeking second chance, when is your generation going to have a go? I know you are enthusiastic about Buhari s record of the past but 20 years plus is a long time, the best car then won't pass safety checks on todays road so think about that too. I am not supporting anybody in fact I am not eligible to vote for anybody so I am asking what many who can vote should be asking. apologies if i upset you in any way with my comment. btw stop trying to fight corruption with greedy people around, it will never work, greed leads to corrupt practices.
He has been the President for 6 years!....Hello, do you even know what that means?. Can Obama give excuse of "no arms"? ...are you kidding me?. He wanted to use the military for his political advantage. Now that the election is close, he is acting as if he cares by fighting BOKO HARAM. My God will punish every evil doer.
It is always pass the buck wen it comes to nigerian presidents, how can a president whose party have being in power for over 16 years say he doesnt knw how his party have ran the affairs of the state for there colllective time in power, he clearly says there he doesnt knw what previous admistrations have done under his party flagship leading the country , that on its on just seem to ordinary nigerians no president follows the agenda of there party manifesto and once in power all or atleast almost all the works done by previous administration are not looked at or are either reviewed by auditors who can not pinpoint how d budget disappeared. all we seem to like to buy wen in power in nigeria is cars, armoured cars that has its own hospice, cars with 26 convoy,if the military can keep our country save why not the rest of nigerians
Now your enemies are regretting and the foolish northerners who hanged against you with the use of Buhari and tinubu and plus the rest are now total failure. You are the best
actually i can guarantee most if not all of those girl wish for death on a daily basis, i hope they get ahold of some weapons and kill those animals that have been forcing themselves on those girls. and why oh why don't the entire nation rise up and overthrow this corrupt fake leader. he looks more like a pimp than a leader, lots of double talk and its all lies
"I will surely win it", "What are you basing that on?" In other words; what have you achieved to deserve a win? Failure of a man! The most clueless/corrupt president Nigeria ever had!
You are sad? I didn't get the new memo "dancing is an expression of grave" or where you not dancing a day after 59 of our kids in Buni yadi were killed?
His english sounds so Bad, what a disgrace. My aunt should be President someone with education. He sound so silly, people who went to school in Nigeria dont sound like that only uneducated. And i am nigerian, so i have to know.
You've succeeded in making no point at all, "Your aunt should be President because she is someone with education" Don't go about correcting someone else's English when yours is not off the scratch.
alice moh nigeria has 3 major languages. at the very most, english should be his fourth best language. do you speak 4 languages better than he speaks english? no? so shut up.
Lets be honest , his English is shit. But thats not the issue. Even the way he answers questions is so embarrassing. He doesn't sound intelligent at all, even after 4 years in office. I love the way the Presenter hit hard and direct, seems the sycophants have been deceiving him.
Ray Richmond You should try and understand that her grudge is no about just the standard of his spoken English but more on how unintelligent he sounds and presents his argument if he has any nat all. Look at his facial expression he justifies cluelessness
alice pls i dont support jonathan i support apc but come on ur comment was a lil out there, his english is ok better than his wife dame atleast, but president goodluck is after a president of a country a dream u probably dream or hope to become one day, we see presidents not alter a word of english an speak through interpreter so pls caution,he might not aticulate issuesby nailing it straight but dats nigerian politics for u
The interviewer doesn't get that Nigeria is still poor and what they can do is limited. It may sound cruel but 200 girls is a small concern on a big totem pole of problems that countries faces.
Are you trying to say that Africa is spiritually wealthy and America is spiritually poor? I can kinda understands that, although that could also be under debate depending how you define certain terms. I also never said anything about brown people
Nigeria is one of the biggest exporters of oil in the world, the problem is corruption rather than money and which creates an unbalanced share of wealth, being also reasonable fertile they could be one of the richest countries in Africa if it wasn't for their lack of minerals.
2019....say no to recycled leadership. Nigeria obviously needs a new political party. No disrespect but it looks like PDP and APC are packed with old men/women. We need young minds who can drive the change required for Nigeria to be the country it ought to be - giant of Africa. We need leaders with a vision and strategy, not clueless leaders who are in it for the power/money. The future of Nigeria is in our hands, our generation must stand out, we must not let greed consume our hearts, we must be filled with love for our country and our brothers&sisters. We must fight for unity, no more pastors/spiritual leaders trying to tear us apart, Yes! There are different denominations of churches, but there is only one Nigeria. Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo and the Middle belt...we are all one. We must learn to live in peace, and come to terms with our differences. We must unite to build our country. Say no to recycled leadership, and yes to a new political party!
and it shows how prepared our starch wearing unformed men and women are, should we be saying its a good thing this happened so our military can have proper equipment or wat, because if not for this insurgency nigerian military would get in six weeks what they havent got for over thirty years if im being kind limiting it to babangida era, because before then we saw on our screens how buhari came abroad to procure equipments for our military during his regime
This guy is so unintelligent that it hurts. And the fact that he's the president of Nigeria totally makes mockery of the political system. This has got to be one of the greatest tragedy, not just in Nigeria but all over the world. He can't answer the questions been thrown at him in an articulate manner, rather he keeps on fidgeting endlessly like someone with a lot of skeletons up in his closet and about to get exposed. He doesn't even know the proper estimate of Nigeria's military strength and yet he's supposed to be the Commander of the armed forces of the federal republic. Giant of Africa my ass. Someone please get that clown out of office.
I hope your happy now that Buhari a certified illiterate is now the president robbing the country of every riches and opportunity, idiot this man was the closest to a decent president Nigeria will ever have
You have successfully removed a good president and brought in a Boko Haram members as a Nigerian president and his cabinet, watch : ruclips.net/video/i_SBEkpoYCU/видео.html
No foreign media has interviewed Buhari like this
My biggest problem with GEJ, always clueless, doesn't even know the state of his country's military. Very confident in his ignorance. At 3:13, the President admitted that he was not in charged. So what make him a president?
Why are you not blaming APC?
Spot on! I also noticed how he was sidestepping the questions asked. Is either his comprehension power is extremely low or he's incredibly stupid
I really don't know what to say. I just know what I feel, disappointed.
I'm really disappointed to say this is my president..

and it shows how prepared our starch wearing unformed men and women are, should we be saying its a good thing this happened so our military can have proper equipment or wat, because if not for this insurgency nigerian military would get in six weeks what they havent got for over thirty years if im being kind limiting it to babangida era, because before then we saw on our screens how buhari came abroad to procure equipments for our military during his regime
