Gene said his sold the most…. His ego can’t face the fact that Ace had the best album and Paul’s was the 2nd best in my opinion. Then Gene and Peter last.
I actually won this promo in 1978. I sent a stamped address letter to 16 mag. Anyone remember those days? It came in a black case with kiss name on cover. Open it up and it had a small book naming the musicians. It was a cassette in a cut out. I loved it!!! My mom actually had to go buy a cheap cassette player for me to play it. Of course I was 12 years old. 👍
Remember?? Dude, I was born in 1970. I LOOOVED KISS growing up. If I had 1/2 of the some of the KISS merch now, that I had back then? Psssh....if we only knew! Plus, peter, is the reason I became a drummer.
Man I wish I would've been privy to that stuff being 13 I loved kiss from dressed to kill to alive 2 and got alive, originals, destroyer and rock n roll over in a short period of time wow !!🤟🤟
. Yep. And know what else? J.J. Jackson was quite the late night coke fiend at The Limelight (NYC main rock club 90's thru 2005). When he had to go on camera at MTV, sometimes he'd put a little Ben Gay under his eyes to shrink the bags under there from the night before. So... yeah. There ya go with sum cool true NYC sex. drugs, and rock & roll storiez!
Gene's tunes with the Beatlemania guys are my favorite. Every time I hear "Always Near You" my entire consciousness goes to 1977/78, and I can see Fall and Halloween, see the color change in the sky and smell the burning leaves. I really wish KISS wouldn't have gone the way it did for 20+ years after the reunion. It's fvcking depressing.
These were solo records but were seen as a 4 LP Kiss presentation because of the simultaneous release and uniform cover art. Even today the records are always filed under Kiss in record stores, not in their names.
lol gee who'd thunk that the title of the song was Back in the New York Groove. Thanks for clarifying that the actual title is what you say say. You big KISS fan obviousy, knows tittle.
Yeah, Double platinum. Also I wondered when were these audio interviews done? It was obviously before DP was released so was this in May or June of 78’?
Ace got Eddie and Anton, for the most part. Meanwhile, over in the Land of Excess… Isn’t the acronym supposedly ’Keep It Simple Stupid’?? Ace was the one who understood it had his name on it, but he also represented KISS. PS: I would turn 11, roughly a month after these hit. A buddy on my block got all four, and we wound up sad at the lack of evil in Gene’s, but stoked at how rockin’ the SpAceman was!👍 Peter and Paul’s albums retired to his older sister’s bedrooms, lol…
There are many forums where Paul does this. I’ve heard it come out of his mouth on a few occasions. Gene has gone back and fourth on the subject as well. I’ve heard Gene say Ace designed it, and he has said it in the last couple of years that Paul designed it. Interview with Paul about his paintings where he claimed it was his design. I’ve been a Kiss nerd since 74. What I’m saying is spot on. I love the band, as well as Paul. This is an observation that I would bet my Ace Fehley les paul on. If you want I’ll find the interviews.
I just heard all solo ( most of all ) albums again last night and I have a new order for favorite. 1. Ace Frehley 2. Gene Simmons 3. Peter Criss 4. Paul Stanley Peter Criss jumped past Paul Stanley due to the fact that I could listen to all of side 2 of Peters record ..........I had to pull Stanley's album after the 2nd song on side 2 .
Ace for sure.....but Gene's is also very good and definitely better than Peter's. It has some great creative stuff. Radioactive is a very good song. Tunnel of Love, Living in Sin. Great stuff.
Easy to see where kiss got its sound from Paul writes the melodic hits Gene writes good enough songs but needs a producer Ace makes them sound good and writes occasional great song Peter provided groove with his swing drumming No other kiss version sounded the same
Truth! Ace wasn’t a technical shredder on the guitar as many have stated, but he had good TASTE and a natural talent for what sounded GOOD. I would argue Paul and Gene were talented songwriters but didn’t have the swagger that Ace had. And yeah, Peter is kind of like Charlie Watts I dare say. Not quite in the pocket like Watts was, but swings the same way.
1978 KISS as a band are only four years old and yet already have made the albums 1.KISS 2.Hotter Than Hell 3.Dressed To Kill 4.Alive 5.Destroyer 6.Rock & Roll Over 7. Love Gun 8. KISS Alive II as well as the four Solo KISS albums which i personally prefer in the order listed below though i love all four more and more with each passing year 1.Ace 2. Gene 3.Paul 4.Peter - thats 12 KISS albums in four years kids, and i had just barely turned 12 by years end and was lucky enough to have seen them on the Love Gun tour at the San Diego Sports Arena on August 19th 1977 age ten with a new band called Cheap Trick opening...man i wish i had a time machine
Paul and Ace are tied. Paul's is the KISS sound. I liked Gene's a lot and liked the contributions by other artists. I think a nice touch would have been Karen Carpenter singing on When You Wish Upon a Star. Peter's was never something i wanted to listen to. A few years ago i listened on RUclips to the whole solo album and understood i made the right choice in not listening.
When were these interviews taped? Gene mentions all the songs in his album but he also mentions “Double Platinum” being released in the upcoming summer. So was this recorded in like May or June of ‘78??
My buddy bought Peter's album. I heard it at his house. I didn't buy it. My buddy bought it back to the record store and exchanged it for the Ace album. I bought Ace's album. I never made an effort to hear Paul and Gene's albums. Heard a song here and there in passing. Gene and Paul's solo albums were different from Peter's album but no better than Peter's albums.
I don't get it. Listening to Gene naming all the celebrities that appeared on his solo album. Yet if you look at the names of all the celebrities on the album cover, it also includes Lassie. No mention as Gene gave all the names.
Gene mentioned a double album with new material never heard before. Wellp, double platinum was technically that with every song remixed and strutter 78 being re-recorded. Sly dog.
I remember as a kid looking at Paul's cover & instantly thinking his was probably the weakest. I was wrong Peter's was the farthest away from KISS but each had their highlights: Ace had Rip it out, Paul had Love in Chains, Peter had Rock me Baby & Gene's Radioactive
Ugh they used and used people on the solos. Typical solo record playbook. The contract with Casablanca had to be brutal. An album every six months, doesn't always equate to quality.
I live on 8200 block of Sunset Blvd. The building that once housed Casablanca records is still there, but the label itself is long forgotten. That said, I still spin Ace & Gene’s solo LPs semi-regularly!
That was pretty much the standard Country Music contract at the time as well. Only difference was, the Country artists usually recorded at least two and a half albums worth of material in one session, as they weren’t expected to write their material.
Jesus Horatio Hornblower, listening to Simmons pontificate about his views on music and his famous guests, while subjecting us to his self absorbed ego while boring us to tears is unbearable. I had to fast forward this one.
Ace Frehley was the best , the second is Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and Peter Criss are the same. Gene has some great demos but he needed like Quincy Jones. Peter needed Bob Ezrin.
So many whiney KISS fans. Get over it already. The band had problems like every other band does. Anyone claiming Ace and Peter carried the band is delusional
Ace will always be the best one . . . But Paul has great songs!
Gene said his sold the most…. His ego can’t face the fact that Ace had the best album and Paul’s was the 2nd best in my opinion. Then Gene and Peter last.
I think we all know who won the Battle of Side Four of ALIVE II.

1978, my grandma bought me the Ace Frehley solo album, my first”KISS” album…favorite band ever since… I was 6… KISS is a lifestyle
I love all 4 1978 KISS solo albums.
Fantastic cover paintings... ❤
“Getting along better than ever…”
😂
Aces was just INCREDIBLE.
Would’ve loved to have seen the band attempt Fractured Mirror just once.
It remains absolutely bitchen to these 50+ yo ears!👍😎⚡️🚀👽
Ace’s (by far)
Paul’s
Gene’s
Peter’s
I went to Pauls in store solo album promo. December 8th 1978 Houston Tx
Man I wish I would've been privy to that stuff being 13 I loved kiss from dressed to kill to alive 2 and got alive, originals, destroyer and rock n roll over in a short period of time wow !!🤟🤟
That's J.J. Jackson, the D.J. who's heard along with Kiss. He was one of the first MTV V.J.'s. too.
Wasn't he the one who did the very first KISS WITHOUT MAKEUP.. interview?
The official unmasking, the black vj... right!?!

Fantastic song, best song on the album
I feel that I was 9-10 then and into kiss since 76. Amazing time, I even rember how it smelled , the packaging and vinyl.
@@normwho7 I should probably reiterate; I like Ace's album the best, but on Gene's album those are my favorite songs.
These were solo records but were seen as a 4 LP Kiss presentation because of the simultaneous release and uniform cover art. Even today the records are always filed under Kiss in record stores, not in their names.
New drinking game, take a shot everytime Peter says "New York"
And, every time Ace says "you know"
Gee, did anyone pick up on the fact that Peter’s from New York?
Holy crap, dude. We get it. You’re from New York.
...and he grew up in the streets.
Back in the New York groove is the best song of all the 4 albums!!!! And Aces is the best Album!!!!!!!!
lol gee who'd thunk that the title of the song was Back in the New York Groove. Thanks for clarifying that the actual title is what you say say. You big KISS fan obviousy, knows tittle.

Settle down you internet warrior asshole 😂
6:50 Gene says ... theres going to be a double KISS album coming out, all original material. ..... Original meaning, best of
Yeah, Double platinum. Also I wondered when were these audio interviews done? It was obviously before DP was released so was this in May or June of 78’?
To date, there are 6,459 Kiss compilation albums with the same songs.
@@shannonlucas2980 lol sounds about right

Aces is the best, not even close. Pauls a distant second
How much further to get to Simmons and Criss?
I like this cause its '78 and kiss was still larger than life then
Ace designed the logo. Paul drew a line around it , and claimed he designed it.
He never claimed he designed it. Even in Paul's book he says Ace designed the original logo and he (Paul) just refined it.
Jason o Reilly is right on this
Typical Jew. Have you seen his artwork that he lives to brag about? It’s awful
Ace DID everything and got it right! Gene and Paul farmed out a lot of the work and it was just too ''busy''.........Peter, .......welllllll........
Paul’s was great. It seemed really genuine.
Gene "We're getting along better than we ever have before"
What a liar!!!
Well, while they were doing the solo albums, they didn't really see each other, so it's true in that respect!
Just delivering the company line.
Surely you understand that is the message they were putting out as a band. It’s not like he just decided to lie
@@allstopblue5717 It's still a lie
He didn't say that. He said, 'to show that we are getting along better than ever'. It was for appearance sake.

Stanley beat him to it
The KISS solo albums, I only ever listened to Ace's solo album. I never had the desire to listen to Gene's, Paul's or Peter's.
1: Ace Hands Down is the Best… 2: Paul 3: Peter 4: Gene…
Awwww, cmon. Peter’s is horrible
I definitely rank Gene's last as well. THAT was self absorbed, weird stuff!
At least Peter stayed True to what he was musically.
