Been sleeping in my 98 outback while i save all available funds for a 30footer sailboat to live on....then gonna sell my outback and sail into the sunset
I'm 6' and use my 2015 Crosstrek for car camping, but I have to sleep sideways in order to fit comfortably. I wish it was a bit longer so I could fit another person, but its perfect for me and the dog.
Loren Holzem I just got a 2018 and I’m looking forward to some Crosstrek camping! I’m 6’4” so I’m gonna have to go diagonal too, but the 20lb mutt will fit easily.
I've used Luno mattress to sleep in my Subaru and it gives me the extra length I need at 6' (I just push my seats forward). The fabric is basically puncture-proof and thick to be used for camping. Check'em out- www.lunolife.com
@@jacksonreese5633 I’m 6’ 3” and I can sleep lengthwise (barely) with the front seats fully inclined forward in the 2021 Crosstrek. I have about an inch to spare, and I don’t have to lay diagonal. I use an Igloo Island Breeze 28qt cooler to fill the gap between the front and back seats.
Ah, cool. I’m 5’8” so its good to see someone near my height try this out :) I’m going to use one of those roll-out memory foam matresses to save space though. Already got rain guards on the windows so I don’t suffocate while I sleep haha. I’m so excited to go camping in my Crosstrek!!! ^_^
+Row Nu Window raid guards are awesome to have. Love them in mine! A sleeping pad would give you even more room for sure! Though if you can fit a fully inflated twin size air mattress with no problems, just about anything else will be good too. Love my Crosstrek!
This might've been all the go ahead my knucklehead friend needed to live in his crosstrek for the quarter. He sleeps in the school parking lot most nights -_-
The 2018 and my short 5'5" height are a great match. I actually laid in the back testing the car out. That's actually my criteria when buying a car can I camp in it.
Cool video. I'm just about to pull the trigger on a 2018 Crosstrek and one of my hiking groups is planning a camping trip next month to Death Valley. I don't have any camping equipment at all but it looks like sleeping in the back of a Crosstrek is a viable option. Good to know! Thanks for posting!
I've camped in my outback. Have one of those small inflatable sleeping pads(about 1/2 the width of a twin mattress). Plenty of space in there. Essentially i sleep on 1 side of the car while I have cargo on the other. Was going to settle with a Crosstrek but the OB's extra space and towing capacity was nice to have. It's also abit quieter and refined on the road. Only thing I regret about not getting the Crosstrek is that they have a lot more custom parts available. I hate driving plain Jane cars.
Not sure about the first gen crosstreks, but my 2019, if you take the headrests off, you can lay the front seats flat backwards. Gives you a bit more room for laying flat out, or in my case, fitting a rather large lazyboy couch into it.
This may seem like a dense question, but how exactly did you lay those seats down? Did you remove the headrest from the back seats and fold them down like normal? What adjustments did you make the front passenger seat to extend the amount of space you have? Thanks!
My twin air mattress doesn’t fit in my Crosstrek even with the seats all the way forward. We have been using 2, 1in thick yoga mats for padding and haven’t slept overnight but laying on them with some blankets to watch the sunset on the beach works well. My husband and I both end up with our feet sticking out the back, but again, it’s better for shorter duration, than overnight.
Subscribed! Eagerly awaiting the video explaining additional 12v power outlet in cargo area. That's one of the first mods I'll want to do when my 2020 arrives (along with extra LEDs in the cargo area)
Typically I use a tent as well. But that wasn’t the point of this vid. Cool stuff and chair would good in the back while driving and outside set up for use while sleeping in the car. Same as you would if you had a tent.
Can you PLEASE do a video on how to add a power socket in the cargo area? It’ll seriously make camping/traveling much more enjoyable! Thanks in advance man, love the tutorial videos.
Crosstrek is a cool little underpowered car. The 8+" of clearance is nice. If you are taller then 5'7" it will be very uncomfortable. Try the outback. The CT is just too small
Let's face it, the outback, forester and crossteck have the most anemic engines of all small suv and crossovers ....too bad because I love them. I loved my forester xt and never should have sold it but it was the only Subaru crossover that had enough power to get out of it's own way!
I agree. That is what I use too. But this is just to show that if you can fit a twin air mattress, you can definitely fit a sleeping pad, or anything else.
Condensation hasn't really been a big issue for me. It does sometimes fog up, in that case ill crack open a window and either put a bug candle on, or spray on the window itself. The keep rain out of an open window, I have my window visors. Those work great for that! ruclips.net/video/lvpFj5mCj5M/видео.html
Thanks for watching! You probably will just fit completely, but your head will be right at the seats and your feet at the lift gate. So as long as you don’t sleep like a mummy, you will be good! Lol
Not completely no, though probably farther that you might. I set my front seat as far forward as I could to still be able to drive if I need to move quickly. So it was forward but not all the way. Though since you are taller and if you do the same, I imagine your seat would be slightly farther back. Otherwise if you slide it all the way forward you shouldn’t have a problem at all.
StarDude Outdoors If I go for it (Of all the Subaru's, the XV is my favourite), I'll probably not use an air mattress and that way, I could just move the passenger seat all the way forward and it should be good as you say. Thank you very much! Subscribed :D
Thank you very much for the video, I remember asking you in other video if car camping is possible in Crosstrek :) I've decided to go for Mazda3 this winter it's same length as Crosstrek so car camping should be possible as well.
+Ph0neutria thanks for the video idea! Turned out to be a fun one! Mazda cars are really nice too. Helped my mom get a Mazda 3 and my dad got a Mazdaspeed 3 a couple years back. Personally, I think rooftop tents are a huge waste of money. I would only ever get one if someone else paid for it or it was given to me. For what they cost I could get a lot of other gear included a nice ground tent.
I routed power from the fuse relays. Made a hole just large enough for the plug and added it. I’m actually going to make a vid on this. Been getting a lot of requests for it. Thanks for watching!
That would be WAY too complicated. It would big pieces, probably made of wood, so rigid and heavy. Would require that the rear seats be down at all time. If not, the platform would take up a lot of space broken down. Then a twin size memory foam pad, rolled up would take more space. When all you need is an inflatable mattress that will take a very little amount of space when not filled up. It can be inflated in place and conform to the space. Not expensive. No custom work needed. The only tool you need is the inflation machine, which is also small. I see absolutely no benefit to a custom built platform.
@@StarDudeOutdoors you build a foldable platform then you put a thin mattress pad on. I've seen a ton of people do it. Thought it would help so your not sleeping so close to the roof
That would still take up a lot of space while transporting. If it was a truck with a flat open bed, then yes, totally. But for this, it really doesn’t make sense.

Of course, it’s bigger. But this video is about Crosstrek’s not Outbacks. Not everyone wants such a large vehicle, like me. Considering that the Crosstrek is the fastest selling SUV right now, I’m not alone.

@@StarDudeOutdoors Clam down you silly man that put a inflatable mattress in the back of a car and found it worthy a You Tube upload ....pop pop bang bang pop...if Subaru U S of A and team Teletubby done "camping" you're the dude for the gig....no need for Mr Mark Higgins and Prodrive
on that one.
"Clam" yourself down. Me and 99k+ viewers found this vid worthy of watching. Including you! So thanks for watching!
@@StarDudeOutdoors Found it very entertaining in a man with a "mike" way still not in the Posh boy and Polar bear league ..many happy pop pop bang bang pop pop miles to you and the Subbie.
I don't know what the hell you just said little kid, but you're special ...
What make/model of inflator are you using?
+51249ca here you go! amzn.to/2ypYnWs
I sell Subaru thanks for this video now I have another selling point 😉
+Jon Oneal awesome! Please do!
What are the dimensions of the cargo area (seats down) of the new 2017- 2018 Foresters. It might be helpful to note what kind of sleep pads fit in these cars. I have a sleep pad that is 77" x 30" and can't find dimensions of Subarus with seats down.
+Me Me Hi, I'd be happy to get that info for you. Also if you are planning on purchasing a Subaru, let me know. As a Subaru Ambassador it's my pleasure to share a voucher saving you $500 on your purchase. Can you contact me through messenger on Facebook?

StarDude Outdoors I think you missed the part where I said I sell Subaru but thank you
If my BRZ is solo camp-worthy, I'm pretty sure ANY car is.
Good for you, but I wouldn’t want to sleep inside of a BRZ. Seems like it would be way too cramped.
Subaru forester sleeps 2 with loads of head room. I'm 6.1 ft
It’s also bigger and more expensive than a Crosstrek. As a single guy who likes to go adventuring, and I usually tent camp anyways, the Crosstrek is perfect for me.
Do this with someone who's not 5'7"
By all means, go ahead and make your own vid if this doesn't suit you. I made mine with what I am and have available.
The Outback is a much better car for sleeping in.
Of course, it’s bigger. But this video is about Crosstrek’s not Outbacks. Not everyone wants such a large vehicle, like me. Considering that the Crosstrek is the fastest selling SUV right now, I’m not alone.
I would imagine so, but I think the big benefit of the Crosstrek is that it's easier to parallel park being 176" vs 190" for the Outback.
what about the mosquito, Max ?
Haha, see them flying around in the video!
I've had really good luck with Natrapel 8 Hour Insect Repellent - amzn.to/2t2F13p
A candle style repellent would probably work too! - amzn.to/2t2q1lZ
I use a Luno mattress to sleep in my Subaru and it gives me the extra length I need at 6'. I just push my seats forward and use their Base Extenders. The fabric is basically puncture-proof and thick so it can be used for camping. Check'em out- www.lunolife.com
I use a couple screens/canopy for the window instead of just rainguards. Keep out the bugs and allow for airflow. Www.roadieproducts.com
Awesome! I have been looking into something like this.
i'm 6;0 so this wont work for me
Everybody is leaving California......HAHAHAHAHAH!
Get a 4Runner lol.
Meh... First it is too big for my taste. Yes it has a v6 but it is a gas hog at 17/21. And the base model is $34,000. That is 10,000 more than my Premium Crosstrek.
Then if you mod it out gas mileage will go down. With all my mods I’m still getting 25mpg average. Don’t need the extra power, it’s not a race car. For speed, get a real fast car. Like a Corvette!
Sticking with my Crosstrek
Fool review i ever seen.
+thanh lam ho what does that make you for watching it?
model, what's edition?
+thanh lam ho the one in the video is a 2017 Subaru Crosstrek 2.0i Premium Manual
I wanna see the logo model, how i can see it while covered by you. Nobody do that before.
So, does a 5'7" person fit in the back of a Crosstrek? Answer: Yes. 30 second video.
+OMGWTFLOL but there is more space, so up to 6' would be comfortable. 30 second vids are for Instagram.
His feet were hanging out the back. Nobody noticed that, really?
#fakenews #conspiracy lol
Don’t be a blinkard.
How'd you add the power source in the cargo area?
