You bet. I like the box hitch as well. The double diamond works with any load, especially the ones that are difficult to lash down and stay (as long as your rope is long enough)...as you already know.
We didna lace it, put two bights on pack lenthwuse twist and pull bights throgh each dimond pull slack all around, 30 sec w: two guys 1 min with 1 guy your way is how my boy did it wen he was eight.
