Lisa is a great musician and a great teacher but as well as tutoring in banjo she could tutor in stage presence and performance. She is an absolute master at that!
Hi Lisa. I started banjo two weeks ago. I have learned the first couple of tunes. Im a retired professional musician but I keep it up for fun. I love Irish music and would love to be able to play as good as you. I live near Mullingar which, as you know hosted the Flagh this year and there’s a great possibility they’ll host it next year, so I aiming to learn a few gigs and reels with your help. Keep up the good work.
I first heard this tune in the Butler Arms public bar in Waterville in about 1968! The tinkers were in town for the annual donkey derby on Reenroe strand.
Online Academy of Irish Music hiya, a banjo school started 1 week ago, but i missed the first class, this week was the 2nd week, but due to the sudden downpour of snow i couldnt make it this week either be uase the fog over the mountain was too severe, i couldnt see past my car bonnet, so i turned and came back home. getting on good with the banjo, my mom is better and needs less taking care off which allows me to get back into it.
It would be easier if the tabs were out in the screen to each note, I’m hopeless at following videos but thanks for the video all the same from a struggling newbie

Any tenor will do. Are you thinking of buying one? Set up is important, so if you buy a cheap one I'd recommend getting your local luthier to set it up well.
@@onlineacademyofirishmusic Yes I'm looking for a good second hand one to see how I get on. I'll look into setting it up too thanks. Is it 17 frets or 19 I need?
You need a tenor. Any banjo will do to start off with but if you spend a few extra bucks on a good one you will improve faster, enjoy it more and it would have good sell on value if you give it up.
Hi Noel, This is ear music so I'd suggest following the tutor and listening to see if it matches what is being played in the vid. How long are you playing banjo?
@@lf6352 plectrum banjos have longer necks with about 22 frets like a five sting without the drone string, and tenor banjos have 19 frets or 17 short scale,
Yes I’m pretty sure it’s a plectrum banjo, I have a plectrum banjo and a tenor banjo, plectrum banjos are usually used for jazz music, and were very popular in the 20s, I have never seen someone playing Irish music on a plectrum banjo before, you can see that it looks far longer than usual

OK so this is the first time I’ve seen anybody use a flat pick on the banjo. Is that common with Irish banjo?
actually, the common way to play tenor banjo (4 string) in general

Do you need an tenor banjo for irish music or will an 5 string work just as well? I want to buy a banjo for irish music but dont know wich one haha

Does the academy website have any lessons on how to create Celtic compositions of your own, like what scales are common, keys ideal, etc.?
D & G
That banjo has such a nice tone! Who is the maker of this instrument?
I think it's Clareen - is that you Eoin?
It's a Clareen Oyster
Wow
Please tell me ... What's is the scale of all string
Hi, The banjo is tuned to GDAE. Does that answer your question?
@@onlineacademyofirishmusic So the Banjo is tuned like a Fiddle.
Which do you prefer, clareen or emerald banjos?
Aren't they quadruplets rather than triplets at 6.15?
Two quavers, down up ?
Price?
From €16 pm. All the details are here - member.oaim.ie/free-trial/
I’m confused with your strokes. Should it not be a down stroke on the stronger part of the beat ?

Yes, it's a tenor banjo
