Great Video on yhis topic... I have also posted a video a little more in depth on this install and I must say that after 6 years the skid plates are still holding well on my 16ft Royalite Nova Craft Prospector... I love my Canoe... Dennis, Canoehound Adventures
I ordered one of your kits. The instructions that came with my resin said to add half of the 11 ml hardener tube, which is 5.5 ml, and watch this video. This video says 4.5ml. Which is it? When I followed the instructions in this video, my skid plates didn't harden up until they sat overnight. I hope they hardened up sufficiently, because they're not cheap, and would be a real mess to have to redo.
What is the material used for the skid plate? And what's the process to get the colour match? Iv one of your green prospector 15 canoes and want to fit a full length skid plate as between me and the Scottish Highlands, it's getting some abuse😁
Felted aramid fibre, AKA Kevlar felt. If the canoe is made from a composite material you can tint the resin with the gelcoat that matches your canoe. We don't recommend tinting the epoxy used to install skid plates on ABS plastic hulls (Royalex or Royalex Lite).
I'm sanding, filling and painting my whole canoe and want to install the skid plate kit as well. My question: am I able to paint over the applied skid plate when I do the paint job? Or should I complete my restoration and add the plates similar to the method in this video?
Hello! The kits are available through any authorized dealer or online at this link www.londonspaddleshop.com/product/skid-plate-kit-for-composite-canoes/
@@atstupenas - Clearly it was an intelligent question because the video creator answered it in a fashion that provided what I assume was a desired clarification.
Thanks. Worked perfectly.

I'd recommend doing it after the rest of the work.
Hopefully you'll see this as your comment is over two years old, what are you painting the boat with?
What type of colour pigment was used in this
to get a vibrant red colour?
Hey there - We're using vinylester resin tinted with gelcoat in this video.
Where do i purchase this kit for my Kevlar canoe?
Hello! The kits are available through any authorized dealer or online at this link www.londonspaddleshop.com/product/skid-plate-kit-for-composite-canoes/
Work on kayaks ?
Will this work on hobie kayak
It's not recommended for plastic hulls. Try to find a product called KeelEazy for your Hobie.
How did you color the epoxy?
The resin used in this video is not epoxy. It's vinylester that we tint using gelcoat.
Why don't you just make canoes that come with skid plates?
Hello, Factory installed skid plates are available as an option.
How about ask an intelligent question!
