    Sad thing is that many people are embarrassed to negotiate! I’ve never understood this. When I was in my 20’s I sold cars, mainly used, for a Summer at a dealership. This very sweet elderly couple said “Ok we’ll take it” full price. I went to the manager and told him their only offer is $1000 less than asking and he came back at $900 off. I go back to them and said I negotiated the $900 off for them. They BOTH got tears in their eyes. I personally lost $200 but felt like a rich man.

    Good advise. When I bought my Dyna I walked in not wanting to spend more than $10k on a bike. They had my Dyna for $14,399. I offered them $10k. They came back with $13k and I said $10k. They walked away and came back at $12,250, and $1,250 for my trade. I said can you give me $2k for my trade instead? And they walked away again. They came back saying yes and I walked with my Dyna the next day after they serviced it for $10,250 + tax/title and they waived the licensing, and "dock" fee. Could not be happier. NEVER NEGOTIATE MONTHLY COST!
    2017 Dyna Street Bob, 4,253 miles, full tank of gas, fully serviced with new tires, brakes, and rotors for $10,250. I feel we both were happy. Especially since I only gave $3k for my trade in the year before.

    Don't negotiate on monthly payment? What BS! Went to buy a 2005 Honda Shadow they told me it was going to be $210/month for 12 months. I told em hell naw, I ain't paying more that $125/month for it. It took a bit of back and forth but I got em down to $125.99/month... and I only owe 23 more years on it! who's the fool now boys?

    • @emperorpalpatine1228

      $210 is cheap and your overall loan would've been shorter than it would've been at $125 a month.

    I don’t negotiate. I look at what I want, come to what I think is a fair price, test drive, confirm condition and make an “out the door” offer. They take it? Great. If not, I walk. Don’t be afraid to walk away from a deal. See a bike you like? Keep track on how long it’s been for sale. If you can walk in with cash, do so. Look at NADA and see where the seller is. Pretty straight forward. BTW. Hornfrog?

    Ah yes the best way to start out a business negotiation is by finding out the other party was lying their ass off. That definitely makes me ready to spend money.
    Its super simple. They need to sell things to feed their family. You do not need to buy things from a dealership to feed *your* family. Everything else is just details, and finding a mutually agreeable position.

    Here in the UK the price you see is the price you pay but they do try to sell all sorts if extras,
    We ended up paying for extended warantee cost an extra £800 or something, but when the air con stopped working due to leaks around the compressor they said there was nothing wrong and it just needed re gassing and could find no fault with reversing camera which was intermittent , they wanted to charge us £200 and said if we took it in again and they still found no fault they would charge us another £200 every time.
    Wont ever take out warantee again.
    Car salesmen have a reputation and it's not good.

    im such a wuss when it comes to confrontation. On top of that Im a 20 (but looks 17) yr old female and I am just experiencing the whole dealership process. Im already enough of a pushover as it is :,) I went to dealer for 2023 yamaha R7 and with a quote they offered $13,064 (MSRP is $9,199, ADM $1,590, + $2,275 Fees) and I felt like that was crazy but I really don't know if its reasonable or not so I am doing hella research on this. After all, the wuss I portray i feel gets me taken advantage of easily. Wish me luck..

      Different-same for me: older woman, small, and men assume I'm a pushover.
      Although I have a bad temper (that I control,) I have a line that if they try to push me over, I have to walk away to keep from doing something I'll regret. So I've walked away many times from pushy salesmen.
      I hope you're out on the road having fun!.
      God bless you.

    Enjoy your unbiased talks. Good job. Great you stressed negotiating the overall price or even trade in value. Most people come in to negotiate monthly payments which is the wrong way to negotiate. Stick with the cost of the bike. Get a loan from the bank or pay as much cash as you can afford and never more than 3 years to finance.

      I once sold a kids swing for £20 on Ebay, it was 10 years old, the pegs that stuck into the ground were muddy and had surface rust but was sound, guy picked it up and was happy, a few hours later a woman was demanding a full refund because it was " disgusting and dirty ", I refused and she left bad feedback and opened a case on Ebay, was sending threatening messages etc etc, Ebay dealt with it and removed the bad feedback and nothing more happened but put me off selling anything else.

    I have learned that if someone is selling say a Ninja 250 for say $1500, and you see all the defects, flaws, and repairs and you add up the repairs to cost more than what they are offering, negotiate the HELL out of them to almost half of their price. That is just one example.
    As far as dealership sales, NEVER agree to the price until you can wheel and deal them down to a price that you can outright pay. Also don't act like an ass either. Once the price has been agreed to AND WRITTEN ON PAPER, FOLLOW THROUGH. Also, once you have bought the bike, buy a few things like accessories, helmets, gloves, ect to show you are still willing to buy their goods at their asking price. It'll also show you aren't as ass as well.

    I know this is essentially unrelated to the video topic, but I’m about to negotiate for my first bike this weekend. Im really just wondering if I’m making the wrong decision.. I’m about to buy a 1979 Honda CB750K for my first motorcycle. Am I crazy? I’m 20 years old and a mechanical engineering student, so I have a good grasp of how clutched work. I’m paying $2000 for a fully rebuild (but still pretty stock) cb750k.
    Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

      Daniel Lexow hey man if it this is something you really want, I say go for it, definitely offer less if it a private seller, see what happens and come up if you have to and you have the cash.
      That all being said, I would make sure you have the money for gear (helmet, gloves, jacket) at minimum. Is this going to be your only ride? Do you have a second mode of reliable transport? If so, like I said go for it, and you’ll learn something wrenching on your own bike, if the answer is no, and you need something super reliable, I’d say look for something newer, either way man have a blast!! Also this is just my .02, I have a 93 Yammy secs II, I gutted last year and built from a donor, it was and is a blast to work on and ride!

    There's so many fees with you buy from a dealership. I recently looked at some new Moto Guzzi’s. Bike’s advertised for 6950 were over 8 grand out the door. I found the bike I wanted on the used market. It's just a year and a half old with 3000 miles on it, like new condition, and still under warranty. I got it for $2600 less than what it cost new. I like buying slightly used. There is a certain convenience buying from a dealer though. They can do registration and tags right on the spot. From what I understand; there aren't as many fees when you buy a used bike from a dealer. It's the new ones that have the large fees.

    • @crashdrc
      @crashdrc 5 лет назад

      Doc fee pays the people who handle getting it registered and the people who clean it and service it before you buy it. Destination or freight charge comes from the manufacturer and can usually be seen on the manufacturer website or brochure, not always but some will post it. The registration and taxes are charged by the state you live in. Those fees are mostly completely necessary and fair but most people don’t really know what they are for and their sales people are idiots who fail to explain

      Cash in hand or no riding.

    • @dragnridr05
      @dragnridr05 3 года назад

      Simple solution is to tell them it's half the cost for a test ride, and if they want you to hold it, then you tell them you can hold, but if someone comes with a better offer, it'll be sold. If they provide half now, then half later, they pay the half up front, and you hold the bike till the day. If they don't pay on the day, you keep the non-refundable deposit and sell it to someone else. It'll put a FAST stop to that and a fast stop to free rides.
