Came here to get some information on thermal paste / locating the CPU without removing unnecessary components.. Still a helpful video with all the different ribbons and connectors :) Thank you.
4:10 I was very horrified at this point. When I tried to put this particular ribbon back in again, the blue tape broke off and the copper wires began to fray off the ribbon as I tried to put the ribbon back in again. I thought it was for the keyboard but thankfully, this ribbon is for the indicator lights and power button. I had to cut the ribbon as straight as I could with a pair of nail scissors so that only 1mm of exposed copper was left on the ribbon (which won't fray) and then put it back in. No indicator lights but it powered up and powered down fine, so I taped it down with gaffer tape to prevent it from moving out of the retainer. So far it's working.
I'm having an issue with the same part. It's totally destroyed and I even took a ribbon from an old flat screen and it fit. Still won't power on. Any suggestions? It was working one minute the just decided to poop. I took out the ribbon and the connection was totally severed. The ribbon is no good. I have sunk 100s to build this machine one part at a time. Know a way to pop this power without the ribbon?
@@samfisher9413 I know that ordered the new part, which is Ls-9205p, and is actually quite cheap at about $10USD. The laptop continues to work with that part to this day. My laptop’s cmos battery dies and I need to get a new one, is there any specific type that the Alienware 14 uses? I’m ordering a cr2032 cmos battery but I’m not sure if it will work
What is the name of the last conector @ 4:07 and what does it do? I am having the worst time trying to connect it back, the little retainer that keeps the connector attached fell and is not coming back in :/
thank you ive been looking for a good video about this. mine is pretty much on the brink of dying. battery doesnt charge no more, almost all ports on the left side are dead and i have a massive line of dead pixels on the left side of my screen and i dont have any experience with repair. this is def going to help though!
Bro, mine is almost like yours! battery almost dead, like 6 lines of dead pixels on the left side. Video card with some problem, i had to turn de gtx765m off.
update on my alienware 14, she died yesterday night at 01:47, she died playing running classics like in the good old days. RIP Aphrodite, thanks for all the fun we had together.
@@pjemjemine had 32 in it. I had a new processor but it died and had to downgrade my ram. It can actually take up to 32 if you have a better processor.
I could sure use a certain small connector of that laptop! I'd take it all too. That connector for the optical ribbon broke on mine trying to release the ribbon to swap the HDD.

Hey im wondering if there is any specific ssd or hdd you would recommend? Had mine since release and it is just now having issues with the hard drive speed.
It is best to stick with name brands like Samsung, Micron, or Hynix. On this model it is easy to replace the SATA hard drive so I would go for a SATA SSD in whatever capacity you need. Here's a 500GB Micron for $54.95 www.ebay.com/itm/332646882994 Thanks for watching!
GPU is soldered on the motherboard and you can't change it. For the processor just unscrew the heatsink and it's there. Just make sure to apply thermal paste before you put them back together.
HI, I have problem with the power recently. when i connect it to the charger it give a one sec orange flash (which mean low battery) then never response any more. i need to unplug the charger and re-plug it get same response. other while it's just dead motherboard is fine, I checked it. have you ever face similar problem, what do you suggest ?
My cousin gave me one of these but the hard drive I beleive is corrupt, not sure why I don’t know anything about them but this is my conclusion, I’m gonna try and replace the hard drive

Yes, 3. There's an M.2 SSD slot, a mechanical hard drive and an optical drive which you can replace with another hard drive / SSD.
