And the films two writers were comic book legends Roy Thomas and Gerry Conway. Roy Thomas was editor-in-chief of Marvel after Stan Lee and took over some his books like X-Men and Avengers and wrote Conan the Barbarian comics for Marvel at the time. He also created characters like Vision and Ultron. Gerry Conway has also had a big career in comics creating characters like the Punisher and writing seminal storylines like The Night Gwen Stacy Died and the first Clone Saga which was where the Punisher was creaeted.
I saw this movie for the first time last year because I started reading a bunch of Sword and Sorcery novels like Conan, Fafhrd and Gray Mouser, Elric, Thongor, Kothar, and Kane. This movie was such a treat and Frank Frazetta’s art will always be the best fantasy artist!
Actually, according to Carpenter, Mac and Childs are actually both human, and are basically just going to freeze to death. And Mac definitely takes the test.
The ending of Time Bandits left me so cold, confused and sad as a child and now I bloody love it. Just Sean Connery winking at Kevin as he climbs into the fire engine and the *firemen* drive off and leave him to his smoking ruin of a house. 🤣Gilliam is a real bastard! 🤣
MacReady took the test. It doesn't absolve him of being the thing at the end, but he's presumably human up through the climax. Fire and Ice is the perfect background film to put on the tv during parties: visually interesting, but completely non-distracting story wise.
Maybe it is barbarian movies in general but this movie really has a Ragnarok feel to it. Juliana is Hel, Nekron is Loki, Larn and Teegra are Lif and Lifthrasir, and Dark Wolf is Vidar since he survive the end. Really the parallels are uncanny. Also, Seen It the 2014 film "The Homesman?" A harrowing story featuring stellar performances by Tom Lee Jones and Hilary Swank. I went into the movie not knowing anything about it and came out truly affected.
Thank you guys for doing this Series. I could write so much about how your show has positively affected my taste in movies, my humor, my hobbies and my self esteem that it’d be turned into a one night only screenplay. But I just wanted to say… Keep it in the Road. Much love from Georgia. 👍🏽😘
I have been meaning to watch this film on Tubi for ages, so when I found out you were watching it for the show. I finally decided to check it out, then immediately after watched this episode. It was an interesting experience. My thoughts on the film overall were pretty similar to yours. Visually impressive, not a really compelling story. I was a little disappointed with Nekron, he seemed like he was going to be a little bit more complicated, but he ended up being a fairly one note villain. His first scene seemed to imply his powers cause in pain, I really thought that was going to play into it somehow.
16:02 "This blonde guy has done nothing. The brunette who shows up later did a helluva lot and he's the hero of this movie." Isn't that the plot of Star Wars?
About three years ago I was with my family as we were heading to the coast in California. During our little trip in my sister's car, I was talking about the brilliance of Stephen Sondheim among other things. A bit later that day, my niece asked me if I knew Sondheim had just passed away. He had died earlier that very same day! Nope, I had not. Of course, it's always worth talking about the legendary career of Sondheim, but the timing of it that particular day was uncanny.
I mean for Time Bandits I always thought that it wasn't a dream he had pictures. there's Sean Connery at the end, and his parents weren't loving, so we shouldn't feel bad they died. Now he can go off and have more adventures.
I did that with Kenny Rogers. I asked my friend one night if he was alive, he died the next day. We now joke that I can't ask about any older musician or actor.
Yeah, I caught that first Equalizer movie, and got everything I wanted out of it. When I spotted the sequels up for streaming, I figured it'd just be more of the same. Also, since Matt is the number one Bill Duke fan, I was wondering if he's seen "Deep Cover"? I went in blind and had a great time with it. Fishburne is the absolute man.
I don’t get the whole “not showing is more” thing that your buddy is regurgitating here. PLENTY was shown, and that’s the reason that critics hated the film. They called it a gorefest with no redeeming qualities! Yeah, it took its time, like Alien (a film with much less impressive SFX, but more than enough mood to make it SCARY AS FUCK!), but it blew its wad on special effects that were convincing enough to terrify me when I watched it for the first time at 2 in the morning back in 2007… Love that film SO MUCH. It’s up on my list with Once Upon a Time in the West, To Live and Die in LA, Repo Man, Barry Lyndon, River’s Edge, Blue Velvet… My favorite films!
As much as I love Brad Knight my favorite Chad Vader fight scene in cinematic history HOW HOW could you not have Tony heir to the Bakshi Kingdom as the feature guest for cartoon June. ?! "This aggression cannot stand man!"
I feel like somebody on the World of Warcraft team must've liked this movie because Dark-Wolf looks so much like Rexxar who is also a wild beastmaster.
Ahhh a staple of my childhood. I must've been 6. Folks not all animation is children appropriate. Not that i mind, this movie is awesome. Also I thought Darkwolf was Batman.
@@jonathaneilbeck2263 Knowing how Morrison's mind works I feel it's entirely purposeful reference. They once referenced the Super Baboon in a Superman comic. Nothing is beyond them.
I liked The Three Amigos far more than Matt, but I can see where he's coming from. I think it's a movie where the parts are better than the whole. Kinda like Austin Powers. Plus, with all the talent involved, it is easy to want it better than what it is.
21:00 "McCready doesn't take the blood test". Yes he does, with the line "Now I'm gonna show you what I already know..."
Fun Fact: James Gurney of the Dinotopia fame worked on this film as a background painter, as did the late Thomas Kinkade, surprising enough.

If you are into role-playing games, check out Black Sword Hack. It's pretty much all those things you mentioned but in TTRPG form.
Actually, according to Carpenter, Mac and Childs are actually both human, and are basically just going to freeze to death. And Mac definitely takes the test.
The Thing is such a great film. I can't believe it was largely panned when it first came out.
McCready takes the test first.
Thank you for pointing this out.
Technical he takes it second after testing windows
IRONIC
Donald Sutherland
Just Passed away
RIP x 3
That "You got lava!" was perfect. I paused to chuckle at that line.
"Cold comes from Nekron." I cannot decide between the 99000 ways this is the funniest line ever.
I live in a town called Larne, so hearing the multiple mentions of it, inadvertently, was very very weird lol.

Aw man, a Randy Newman reference?! Where’s Jason? 😆

LARN. Why did this make me laugh so hard when Brad says it. 😂
same here. and it reminds me of Craig's "it's important to his character" (King Arthur episode)
that Lost Highway poster needs to be featured more in the show 😊
Oh yeah baby Ralph Bakshi time

I also Love this movie and the animation. It’s gritty.
"My doody is to stay shat up" Best. Dialogue. Ever.

Hi Jupiter (we can see Uranus)
16:02 "This blonde guy has done nothing. The brunette who shows up later did a helluva lot and he's the hero of this movie." Isn't that the plot of Star Wars?
I felt exactly the same about that Time Bandits ending. Messed me up as a kid.
About three years ago I was with my family as we were heading to the coast in California. Love the Taboo album in the background! Dif genre but Korla Pandit is worth a listen.

Maggie rosswell is in this
Cool 😊
Her daughter was like : is this adult? 😂
Maggie: my character falls down a lot .
😂
There was a school film called "Talking to your kids until you're blue in the face" by Noah Vail.
Yeah, I caught that first Equalizer movie, and got everything I wanted out of it. When I spotted the sequels up for streaming, I figured it'd just be more of the same.

if there was Lava, why wasn't it used sooner? 😂
Movie should have been called "quest for pants"
Matt we need a playlist for season 13, she's half over!
I'm genuinely surprised that the Ernesto stinger wasn't Brad just going "Larrrrrn."
Hail Jupiter! :D
Oh nice. I've been hoping you'd do this one ever since someone sent it in for an unboxing a while back.
I'm in Arkansas... We also had "The Star Hustler" just FYI.
"Wow, Wow, Wow" 😂😂
Fire and Ice looks awesome
Very true.
lol, loved this flick growing up ;)
Gotta use the Lava to wash away the evil

Want to see a draft where Larn's a minor character and Tigra's gaining warrior skills. And maybe where they give iceboy a bit of motivation but hey
I feel like somebody on the World of Warcraft team must've liked this movie because Dark-Wolf looks so much like Rexxar who is also a wild beastmaster.
that cat likes to shake his starfish
The goons look for her.
Man, Jupiter has some black balls.

Funningly enough Batman did end up looking like that when he was sent back in time during Grant Morrison's run.

0:47 “Keep looking up!”
1:00 same here my mom and my aunts went to go see than a few days he died rip
Great video.
I love Jupiter!!
20:49 Very silly thing to think! Give it a rewatch Mattrick me ol' pal
more jupiter
Just don't mention Donald Sutherland...
Larn!!
Laaaarn!
Bakshi movies, to me: nice visuals, boring stories.
Great job on the review!
Gary's dad died?
Larn?

Mc creedy did take the nest
#BlameBlame4Dabney
3 Amigos' flaw is Chevy Chase. He's overrated and absolutely horrible as an actor and a comedian.
Wizards is waaaayyy better
