Your discussion about conversion being to Christ and not to the church got me thinking about my kids who have left the faith as well as those Christians who claim LDS members are not saved. A relationship with Christ is the main thing. Will God condemn a sincere disciple because of membership in this church or that church? I think Paul would say, God forbid!
We differ on doctrines that don't affect our salvation, ie whether the Father and the Son are one in purpose or in substance, but we do agree on everything about Christ that does bring us salvation, specifically that a personal faith in Christ is the only way to salvation. If we are converted to loving Him, and then loving our fellow man, we are a lot closer to one another than we are apart.

It seems to me it is helpful to read Alma 32, parable of sower, and Galatians 5:32 “the fruits of the spirit are love, peace, joy, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, and Faith…you become like Christ as the end result, ….
nourishing the seed is actually enduring to the end and gradually becoming more and more like Christ as you believe in Christ ,obey and repent …you spiral upwards.

The Pearl of Great Price!! " I found the Pearl of greatest price, eternal life so fair it was through the Saviors sacrifice, the Kingdom of God". For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Romans 14:17. The treasure is not obvious to most men. They do not hear Gods Word. When they hear and understand the word, they know how great the kingdom of God is, they will bear great fruit.
