Daytona USA 2 Power Edition - Taking 1st Place on Expert Course

- Just for fun, a video of me taking first place on the Expert course in Daytona USA 2. I find this course to be much easier than the Advanced course with the normal level (Scorpio) car but do poorly with the Phantom car.
I'm using a development build of my Model 3 emulator, Supermodel, available for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. The latest public version can be downloaded from www.supermodel3.... My PC specs: Intel i5-2500K at 3.2 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce 460 GTX, 8 GB RAM. I'm using an XBox 360 controller.

I'm impressed. You handled that like an intellegent driver. You didn't lose your mind when the drivers ahead of you took themselves out, which is the main reason you were able to gain 5 of those last 8 positions.
For that, I applaud you.
Seriously, the soundtrack combined with the announcer and your skills just make this video awesome.
Now this is a racing game.
I remember playing the arcade game. I played it so much I became very good at it. My fastest lap on expert mode was below 1:52. Had great times with this game.
Played so much of this game at the arcade near my job. So much memories! Used to be my favorite arcade game.

I always wanted to play this great sequel, since I only played the original Daytona USA arcade many years ago, I remember seeing people play Daytona USA 2, sadly I never managed to play it since I had was very busy with many things on my life and then my local arcade closed and I lost my opportunity to play this game. Someday, I'll be able to play it and feel all those memories I couldn't experience before, someday...

How did you manage to get the crew chief so loud? Whenever I up the volume of the game, the car's engine volume also increases. What options is it? Did you do it by the volume settings of the emulator? Or is it an option in the game itself I'm missing?

Nope, it's running in a development version of my emulator, Supermodel. You can download the last release, 0.2a, at the web site listed in the video description.

The best I've gotten on this track is 4th. Getting 1st place is extremely difficult compared to Daytona 1.
Syrinx 63 I find Daytona’s expert and advanced tracks to be harder actually. 😅 It’s all about the shifting.
BartTrzynadlowski Well for me, I've memorized the tracks on Daytona 1 so I'm able to get 1st place most of the time. As for Daytona 2, I'm still practicing the courses.

@@xxdeadchannelxx Damn! You’re better than me now. Do you play with a game pad? How far are you from the Bay Area? If latency is low enough we could try a network match but we’d probably have to be pretty nearby.

Sega needs to start porting all of these old arcade games to steam, psn, etc.

What do you mean? This is a development build of Supermodel 0.3a. There are versions of it that others have compiled floating around the net and it should look the same for everyone, with the exception of those running a particular set of ATI drivers that seem to cause severe graphical glitches.
I love how the CPU cars just keep crashing themselves...

Does the Chums Car (easy level car), Scorpio car (normal level car) and the Phantom car (hard level car) change colors?

RoGamingBros - Weird things and Commenter, yes they do, it's based on your selection of manual and automatic transmission on a single player cabinet (such as the one being played), or if it's a multiplayer cabinet, then each number (1-16) has its own color scheme, and each car has its own colors, but manual or auto doesn't change it, I suggest you check out the Color Festivals videos for each car if you want to see each one

Is it me or the emulator is not loading the rivals' cars textures correctly?
It's not just you :) This was recorded on a very old build of Supermodel. This issue has largely been fixed in the upcoming release. For those curious about the technical details, the issue wasn't that the textures were not being loaded but rather that their format was not understood. The AI vehicle decals use a 4-bit encoding.

Ok, I've changed my videocard for a 8500GT 512MB and it's running Supermodel smooth now, on 1280x720 resolution.

Lol the sound channels are reversed. There is a crash on the right side of the screen and I hear it out of my left ear bud. :o

Not enough drifting in the video. Can be done with normal level car. Speedometre too low & speed far too slow.
