Understood, but I just never look at watches as an investment. I've owned Rolex, Omega, Panerai, Breitling, Tudor and Tag. Simply put, I buy what I like and try to buy it right. This whole "watch as an investment" just doesn't do it for me. There are much better places to put investment money. Watch money is for personal enjoyment.
Lots of these RUclips personalities don’t understand that money is for spending on things that you enjoy. Investment is stock market or real estate
You can not called it investment if resale increase with inflation..... I had watch that I paid high tax for Tag Heuer Senna is my favorite.. don't expect it to go up in value but i just love the guy and Tag heuer a well made watch... Other like rolex... it is there in the safe... never take it out...
All very well, but we all can get tired of a watch (especially a shitter), and it’s nice to know it could help fund a new one.
Extactly buy a sub and make 5k on it in a year. I’ve made 5K in a month on shares of the same value. Not to mention watch investing is probably more speculative than buying micro cap stocks
Good point. Play the markets if you want to invest, AIM stocks in particular can be lucrative (and dangerous). I get what this guy is saying though, it's how he's made a living. Watch collecting for me is the reward I give myself for earning a living, not how I make one. These vids are mainly aimed at dealers, I think, but interesting to watch from the perspective of a punter.
No watches are bad buys unless you have the intention to buy and sell. Buy what you like. It's not an investment, it is a expensive hobby.
Very true
First comment you get if you wear a Breitling or Omega “Nice watch” first comment you get if you wear a Rolex “Is it real or a knock off”
If you are wearing a rolex and are stopped to be asked that by a few guys in the street better always saying its a fake and laugh.
So true!
No one ever asked me or commented on my watch except very close friends and family : not people on the street 😂
You must move in the wrong circles...
@@cestmoi7829 make no mistake EVERYONE that notices it says Rolex on it is wondering if it’s real or fake , EVERYONE!
Why don't we apply the same "financial logic" when paying £85 for a £3 T shirt or a car that loses 30% as soon as you put a key in it... Horology is not just chasing the unobtainable and following the Rolex herd... buy what you love and enjoy it...
Horology is all about the movements and innovation though. Genuine horological items are about value and collectability.
Yes if your buying watches from an aesthetic point of view as a fashion item it is different.
If you are a horologist on a limited budget it doesn't mean that you have to abandon horological principles.
There is a Russian manufacturer that uses mechanical in house movements and creates innovative advancements at unbelievably low financial cost and that you will not lose money on.
The name of it is Vostok, also known as Boctok and the latest branding that appeals more to modern tastes Amphibia. They are available from £60 upwards brand new, Amphibia more like £3-500, although here you may suffer a bit financially upon resale if sold in the very near future. Upon receipt they can be a bit less accurate than high end brands but anyone with the skills can adjust them to be within COSC standards. If you can't do this yourself any good watchsmith will be able to do this for you for very reasonable cost.
Even if the Vostok look doesn't appeal there is quite a few 'modders' that have created fantastic bezels, inserts, dials and hands to transform them, and will even polish/brush them to exceptionally high standards.
One of Vostok's innovations was with their divers watches whereby the case back, crystal and crown are all designed to use water pressure to protect the movement, as opposed to all other dive watches that all attempt to use strength against water pressure to do so, literally the higher the water pressure becomes the greater the watches resistance to the water becomes. The crown innovation also works exceptionally well for protecting the movement from shocks, as the crown is essentially disconnected from the stem, and therefore the movement when screwed in.
@@syndicatedsatellite7288 many of the defects are even more difficult to notice than that, often it is simply because the item falls outside of the acceptable parameters for the size it is labelled, or a minor stitching imperfection.
Buster Edwards I’d guess that many Brietling and Tag Heuer buyers don’t even know what the world horology means !!
You make a good point, but I don’t think movements, and getting the latest watch tech is of interest to shopping mall buyers
Most brands in Breitling/Tag price range use 3rd party ETA movements, with seiko being the most obvious exception
ETAs maybe not most glamorous movement in the world , but they are reliable and easy to maintain and they most certainly fulfil a valuable function for many entry level mechanical watch brands
@@byrong1561 I agree. Entry level so they should be priced accordingly. Their value to me is at Seiko level. And no not Grand Seiko level lol.
Breitling is a great second hand buy. Once they lost their value, they will appreciate again. Buy them at the right price and you‘ll lose nothing.
I think that applies to most luxury- entry level luxury watches like Longines, Ball, Oris, etc.. second hand or grey market is the way to go in those brands. Longines and Ball being two of my favorites.
My favorite are the Sinn Navitimers. They are better made and less expensive. I love Sinn. I hope no rappers or similar garbage make the brand famous and ruin it for the rest of us.

Buy a watch you want to wear and keep. Unless you're a dealer or millionaire.
That will never work for anyone. Every person buys a watch, while not the initial thought of reselling, it will come in many forms; buy a better watch, more expensive one, hence all these dealers. Look at all the watches on eBay. Watches are clearly bought with the Intent of making money or flipping watches for another. I’m tired of the ‘Buy a watch to keep’. Every channel needs to look at being different and start a channel on “How to Flip a Watch”. These are facts, and everyone knows it!!
If Vinnie Jones did a watch review channel, this is what it would be like.

TAG, Breitling and Omega and many others are all watches that are freely available at 20-50%, Airports are a great source for discounts, stop chasing something you cannot get and enjoy your watches.
Exactly. Not a fan of double exclusively measures, i.e. high prices combined with limited availability. One or the other is enough.
Yes, all of the insults hurled at "mall brands" are a bit much. The first new Rolex I ever saw was at a mall, by the way . . . the Battlefield Mall in Springfield, Missouri of all places, haha. I couldn't get my parents to buy it for me, though, because they thought $600 was too much for a stainless steel timepiece. Of course $600 for any Rolex, new or used, or counterfeit, seems like a joke . . . or a distant memory of an elderly collector.
@@gregs.2679 Wow, $600 for a Rolex, what year what that? :-)
@@romanmichaelhamilton8729 I graduated from elementary school in 1978, so it would have been a few years before that. That might have been another reason my parents wouldn't buy it: $600 for a watch for a schoolboy. They also might have been concerned I'd overwind it, since automatics were a new thing back then and they probably weren't knowledgeable about the slip device that makes that impossible. Of course in the 1960s, they were cheaper still. The US Air Force approved two chronographs for our pilots in Vietnam: one by Rolex, one by Seiko. Most guys bought the Rolex because it was cheaper than the Seiko! Of course the Seiko was a true column-wheel chrono and all-in house. And Rolex hadn't yet started buying full-page ads in the programs and other printed materials passed out everywhere from golf tournaments to opera houses.
@@gregs.2679 Wow that's a great story and many thanks for sharing it.
Great videos BTW Paul. I've the headphones on all day at work listening to you. The stories about your robberies - particularly the last one - made for difficult but an excellent listen all the same. All the best with your future endeavours 👍 🇮🇪
Paul I tried your walk away technique on a new omega after pretending it was my second choice to a breitling which the shop had out of stock. I coupled it with going to the shop a few days before the end of the month (A tip I got from buying a car from a friend). I made an offer 40% bellow the rrp and left them my number, the seller called me back on the last friday of the month and offered me 30%. saved me just over a grand. Heaven knows what their actual markup is then?

If I can get my kids through college without their having to take on crushing debt...if I can be comfortable in my retirement...if I can handle unexpected repairs without worrying about how to pay for it...I will have more happiness than any watch will bring.
@sodapop 😂 I know it's a little preachy, but I also think it's good to provide a different perspective, especially for younger people.
I love my Breitling SOH2
An absolute beauty
Beautiful watch. Congratulations on not drinking the Rolex Koolaid
I Totaly agree with you about TAG, I went in a TAG AD and bought a Carrera Day-Date on the Alligator Strap paid full price it wasn't very expensive I wanted that watch. I have Rolex but I really wanted a TAG. Good Video I
Jay Y, completely agree. Sometimes the watch bug strikes at different occasions with various brands.
Excellent advice. I purchased a Tag Heuer aquaracer 43mm with my heart as it just kept staring at me, i managed 40% off the list price so trust me it can be done.
At last a Londoner who speaks my language!! New to watches and have been scouring RUclips for this kind of fellow. So sad to hear you aren't going to do any more vids. I'll check out the back catalogue. Cheers mate!
Great video...I always viewed Tag as a great used watch to buy, due to this exact problem of low resale value.
I bought years ago a Tag 4000 automatic from Goldsmiths. IIRC the ratail was £799-899. I bartered them down to about £650 cash in hand. This was the only way as a youngster to get into a decent watch. The rolex sub was my grail. I then sold it years later on ebay for £575. Lucky escape. Now i have a Omega PO big size 2500cal(James Bond Casino Royale Watch). Paid decent money at £1750 second hand but fully serviced by Omega. Also bought from a Omega AD. This was in 2011, now in 2019 i got offered £1500-£1650. So lookign at sellign and getting into a 2nd hand GMT.
Quality content again, Paul!
I learned that lesson in the 90’s when I sold my Navitimer, bought at an AD, at a massive loss. Thankfully, I bought my Breitling Premier A13315 for $3k. At full retail, it would be a future resale disaster. At 3k, I hope to break even on the way out.
Spot on, there definitely is a tiered system with regards to the pinnacle of the watch world. Higher echelon watches like Breguet, A Lange and Sohne , Patek are and always will be the "Bucket List" or lottery winners dream watches. And the middle tier watches like Omega, Breitling like you said with clever marketing do stick in peoples minds when asked "What's a Luxury watch". Insightful as always.
RUclips watch people love to hate on Tag Heuer but Tag Heuer just keeps on keeping on, and people keep buying them. Their image of the watch people love to hate is genius. Makes me want one even more.
"people love to hate on Tag Heuer but Tag Heuer just keeps on keeping on, and people keep buying them"
We all make mistakes, most learn and make them once, some like you like to stay ignorant and keep repeating the same mistake over and over again.
I have bought three used tags one carrera one tag 6000 and one aqua racer very reliable watches and the three cost me together 3000 well made of course I have other brands just losers who love to suck Rolex cock I will never buy a Rolex just to be one of those snobs
"In my opinion, the reason they're a limited edition is, because they can't find enough people to buy any more." That sums things up quite nicely.
ltd becaue nobody can get one from rolez
Tag Heuer was the first "Swiss" watch I ever fell in love with since seeing it in the Jason Bourne movies. I followed it's evolution to the CAT2010.BA0952 era Link Calibre 16s (my favourite), and ultimately decided not to buy it when I was in a position to do so. Having seen the regression, not only in the Link series, but the Carrera and other lines since the lead designer left, and noting NO evolution in the movements used (Calibre 16 being the ETA 7750), while I originally felt like I had missed out on that old CAT2010 since it's no longer in production, I'm actually very satisfied with my decision. There are much nicer brands out there IMO.
Good video but you have to have your wits even when buying watch brands that people seriously covert. For example,
Rolex - If it's not a Comex, Daytona, Submariner or a GMT, you're probably taking a hit on resale;
Patek - If it's not a limited edition or a Nautilus, you're losing money on resale particularly if it's an annual/perpetual calendar or any other type of complication;
Audemars - Losing lots of money unless it's a Royal Oak or a Royal Oak Offshore;
Vacheron - Extremely well thought of brand but you'll lose money on practically any watch you buy;
Jaegar - The same as Vacheron.
Omega - Outside of a Speedmaster, you'll losing a significant sum on resale.
Very few brands retain value and then you have to know what watches within that brand to go for.
Currently the new Datejust 36 (ref. 126234) also has a resale price above retail
@@Jack-is9sm - Is there any reason to be this supercilious? Does it make you feel good to belittle people you don't know on the internet? It makes you look small and pathetic. I've got 101 better things to do with my time than to be an arsehole to someone I don't know.
I'm not here to impress anyone and I don't care what you think. Have a nice life.
Paul,I'm sure some will disagree, but buy a watch you like, period.dont buy for an investment.if you buy for an investment buy Gold, you don't have to fix it,worry about any type of upkeep.
Hi Paul, priceless content! Big fan of the channel. I’m interested to know what’s your opinion on the Tudor pelagos LHD whether they will be discontinued as they are numbered? Or will they just keep producing them. Thanks Liam
My biggest take away from what Paul said is that paying full retail for these entry level or other luxury brands is wasting a lot of your hard earned cash as you will never recover that if and when you try to sell. He is saying try to buy it at a good discount if you have to have it. He is saying you will take a loss on your purchase right away that you will not recover. If you are ok with that then by all means buy it retail. If there is a better way to buy it which saves you money then why not get the same watch and the savings at the same time? Appreciate that insight Paul. Not every purchase turns out to be an investment but if you can save money in the purchase I believe most consumers would choose the savings way in the purchase. Now that I know I sure will buy online at Jomas or Watchmaxx if they are selling the same watch at a discount. I Will try to get the retailer to match discpunt but I don't control that. I'm not about giving away my money if I can get savings in the purchase.
I love my omega seamaster 007 edition i got from watch finder.
I'm a Monaco owner. Paul is right about the markups. I bought it with a 30% discount off the list price. I was on a Friday afternoon flight going into Europe, stopped by one of the watch shops in Heathrow T1 at the time, and made them an offer that I had cash burning a hole in my pocket and that I wanted the Monaco and named my price. The Manager agreed to my offer, probably cos they wanted to just get the watch added to their end of week sales figures. I bought the watch cos I like the Monaco model, it's a watch with a history that I've always wanted. I couldn't care less about the other watches in Tag's range but this watch has given me a lot of pleasure and enjoyment over the years.
I bought a Superocean through pawn at 750.00 U.S..This watch is an officially certified chronometer and I service it every 2 or three years at 150.00. It is mint and keeps perfect time. I have a safe box full of Rolex,Tudor,Omega,etc...The Breitling is my daily driver. The purchase was solid. I know it has a in house movement however I would own this watch over a Sub!
Cheers Paul, advice that's good for the retailer and the buyer. Appreciate the honesty.
Paul, you’re educating us all about the watch business, something we can’t find anywhere else on RUclips. It’s always a pleasure listening to your posts as you don’t shortchange us 😁
I recently bought a Breitling Emergency 11 Night Mission and dont think I would lose that much if I was too resell lunns in Belfast who I buy alot of watches from have even said too give them first option I fly for Jet2 and was after an Emerggency effort a while it's a super watch ..
Again Paul , a good honest approach.
My first ‘ luxury watch ‘was the tag aqua racer Pepsi , which I bought about 3 years ago for 2.2k rp when I first started collecting. As Iv become more into watches Iv learnt that my purchase wasn’t such a good investment . However I still love that watch as I do all my watches and have no intention of selling it which in turn means I haven’t really lost any money .
As for brietling I don’t really like any of there watches apart from the super ocean heritage 2 which I will buy eventually and I probably will get around 30% dis. So you’re spot on there my friend .
Just to add . I was sat here in the van waiting to start work with me mate and before you said those two brands , I actually said the same two brands 😉 .keep em coming Paul .
I brought my chronomat 44 TT from my local AD with no discount. I really did like it. I had told them I wanted a 'Hulk'. I didn't know anything about waiting lists etc at that stage. What they offered me in store was the TT submariner with the black dial, a rose gold Daytona or a TT GMT that they told me was discontinued. And you know what happened? I saw the Breitling and said to myself it did everything those models did, and a bit more. So I brought that. It got me on the waiting list for the 'Hulk' I originally wanted first day. I was told I'd be waiting about 18 months. 4 months later they called me to say it was in. Now I have two watches
If you’ve been following all the mainstream RUclips watch enthusiast channel out there long enough you would have notice the same pattern from all of them by now, to cut things short this is the take away from most of the channels:-
"I talk about so many watches THAT IS NOT ROLEX, I know so many great watches out there THAT IS NOT ROLEX, I am reviewing this beautiful watch THAT IS NOT ROLEX, guys there are so many great watches out there THAT IS NOT ROLEX, I recommend you these watches THAT IS NOT ROLEX, Rolex is overrated!!"
"BUT I wear Rolex, my favorite watch is Rolex, Rolex is the best watch in my collection, I only need my Rolex, seriously just buy Rolex…”
I watch your channel because you are different Paul. I like your business sense, honesty, ethics and passion for what horology means to you.
Great advice and what I follow myself. Own 3 tags and all purchased second wrist. Rolex and Tudor I have purchased new and even Omega with a bit of a discount everything else outside of PP etc needs careful consideration before anywhere near retail.
Tag Heuer goes without saying but so glad you also said Breitling. Back in the 80's a wise old man who knew watches told me to go for Vacheron and Zenith watches if I wanted quality. He was not wrong.
New to your channel but thanks for candid and concise videos, interesting content
I own a lot of watches from fossil to rolex. I found that majority of dealers will give 20% on tags apart from the smart watch which you usually get 15% off and yes I did buy a tag smart watch and love it. My favourite watch is one of my cheapest and tells the time in binary. I love watching people's faces when they try to figure out the time.
Hmmmmm....I bought a tag heuer quartz chrono professional 200m some 17 years ago.......very accurate, reliable, toigh and well finished watch that looks as good as new, ive worn it almost every day. I do agree that Tag and Breitling charge over the top for mechanical watches that have standard ETA movements, same as my Hamilton auto ETA 2824 which cost €400. Was I ripped off? Keep up the no holds barred commentary☘
I love my Hammies. You can get 40 to 50% off all day long on the gray market.
Mrs bought me an Aqua racer and I love it. Love the fact that everyone knows the brand and love it’s history with formula one. I love the design of the watch too and will never sell it plus it goes with everything I wear. So if I break it down for the amount of years I will own this watch (hopefully I will live a long happy and healthy life) then it’s a bargain.😁😉
My wife brought me one as well, and I love it. Not the most expensive hard to obtain watch. But it looks amazing on my wrist!
@@mfdc739 must be a thing, MY wife also boughht me the white dial chrono Aquaracer in Quartz, which I would have never considered but it's one of my three favorite watches now (along with a Chris Ward C11 and a Trintec Zulu Altimeter) that round out my most worn. Doesn't even take up a winder pillow lol
ALL WATCH BRANDS drop 40-60% in price the moment they are purchased except for Patek, AP, and Vacheron. Even Rolex dropped to half of its value before the social media watch boom of 2015. Once the bubble bursts, Rolex owners will lose big. If Breitling is so bad, then why is Rolex partnered with Breitling and using Breitling movements in their watches right now?......
Yeah this love of Rolex is getting ridiculous, I wear breitling navitimer my girl wears a sub and a two tone 36mm. To attack Omega and Breitling and think Rolex is made any better is a joke.
Good work amazing. Just one thing i find rolex spoke so.much in your vlogs however i would like to hear more about brands like tudor.
I got a pristine Carrera for less than $900 USD and retail is $2,500 USD used with warranty. Advice he gives is don’t pay full retail - because you loose money. Sure Rolex keeps value but is unobtainable for most , which is why it’s that way!
mate, were glad to have you back!!!
One of the most hilarious comments on a watch vid I've heard for ages, "I've even been tempted to wear a Navitimer in the past, never quite been able to bring myself to do it but I've nearly done it". Absolute comedy gold mate. ATB,Big Chip ;?)
Good advice. I know a reasonable amount about horology but hardly anything about the investment side of things and the real value of these watches. Thanks
Totally agree about Tag Heuer Paul. Purchased an WN1351 Ladies Divers Stainless Steel with 18KT Rose Gold Bezel 20 years ago, which are still selling for around 50% more, but pre-owned value of these watches are so low and TAG charge the earth for simple wear and tear repairs purposly making parts unavailable for watch repair stores. So I had to purchase a 15 dollar rachet bezel spring from California and fix it myself, as they wanted almost as much as the watch was worth second hand to carry out the repair.
Good content, would like to hear your opinion on other pseudo luxury brands. Tissot Swissmatic range?
Love your channel Paul... keep it up buddy
Hi mate what do you think of Lorus watches which can be bought from the Argos range? Proper luxury peices imo
There are very good deals on Omega pre owned watches, from owners that unfortunately already took the hit. Of course, one need to ensure that the source or current owner are reputable and reliable. Many of us look for watches we like and not for investment purposes (Omega in my case) and it is an additional advantage that they can be found at depreciated prices already. It is even an added benefice that if one is interested in retention value or need to resale for whatever reason, these timepieces will depreciate still, as a matter of course, but at lesser rates I suppose, so one's loss won't be as strong if the piece were bought at retail price, IMHO.
Thanks Paul for the clarification. What do you think of the Casio ZBLRO.?
ChrisTopper Londel 🤣
It means that these brands are really good second hand buy. I can find mint condition TAG Aquaracer at 50%+ discount very easily. Which is a nice daily use watch for the price.
I picked a 2016 Aquaracer full kit for around $600 (quartz version, just my grab and go beater watch).
@@mcstarling07 Hence... it is a quartz... 600 is still high for quartz...
Very good video. I actually think a lot of younger watch enthusiasts are already wary of such brands and go straight for the likes of Rolex, Patek and AP, as they should. Brands like Tag and Breitling have a meaning to some older collectors due to their history but they've been living off past glories for too long. Better off spending a couple of years on a waiting list to get something worthwhile.
This issue I have is how many people genuinely believe the sun rises and sets with Rolex. There are companies out there that blow Rolex out of the water for horology. They hold there money just as well and there movements are a work of art. Buy people believe the hype. Rolex are a mass produced product, a very very good product but still not rare.
The Bearded Yorkshireman you try going into a Rolex dealer and buying one today and see what they say.
I have and that’s why I will never buy another Rolex again, have had 3 so far, subs etc but the way AD’s treat customers is a big no no to me. Just because they only want to deal with VIP customers do not make Rolex the best. UK market is not the number 1 for Rolex, USA, China and UAE is where they send there stock.
Bloody iPhone auto correction. But yes Their stock
There are better cars than Ferrari’s... they still sell though. It’s the prestige that’s attached to the brand, an iconic and recognisable time piece.
Bearded, what companies blow Rolex out of there water using the metric of resale, price point and watch movement?
Nice POV. Appreciate the thoughts and advice. Cheers mate.

Great message Paul! All the best!
Cash Generator in Wigan have a window full of these watches all about £20-OUCH!
No they don't. Stop talking bollocks.
Hi Paul,
I bought my DSSD D-Blue 126660 at Rolex Boutique at a shopping mall in California.
Three months later, same AD called me to come pickup a 126710 BLRO.
I’m also top of their 116500 Daytona white dial and 116610 LV lists.
Deep Blue was my first purchase with them, but I did befriend the manager, who has been terrific to me.
In general though, you are right with respect to most ADs. I wouldn’t even consider other brands than Rolex, AP and VC (with VC only bought “right”).
Also just add I often do make a profit on some of the Tags I sold but then again I did buy them abroad where the exchange rate was in my favour. I actually got 2 of the same model and sold a tag that paid for the other as well.
But agree buying in the UK, get a discount or walk away.
You are so right with this Paul, I bought a Tag Huer sel in the 90's when they were even more popular than they are now. I still regret not streching to a pre owned Rolex.
“I’ve even been tempted to wear a Navitimer; never quite been able to bring myself to do it. ” 🤣
Quite the snob for sporting such an ugly ass hand tattoo Lol!
Good advice Paul had really wanted a heritage superocean ii then seen the omega seamaster 300 pro grey dial saved up a bit more and got that one glad I did I got it just before they went up another 8%ish plus used my negotiating skills to get just short of 21% of rrp from a authorised dealer thd dealer was really good great service.
I’m fairly new to this channel and an owner of two Tag Heuers and an Omega yet I’ve clicked thumbs up rather than down. My reason for this is what you say about 5 mins in that if you like the watch and are happy with it then that’s good enough, I wish more watch channels would say this. Not every purchase is considered an investment by everyone.
All three are watches that I love to own, I never bought them as an investment, I bought them because I liked them and wanted to have them on my wrist. Two of them have a particular meaning to me that makes them special.
I thought it was a very fair and informative video. Nicely Done 👍🏻
Many of the lower end Tag Heuer F1 models aren't great horological pieces but they did and do introduce people into the watch community; the Aquaracer and Monaco models are well respected at the right discount!
The Monaco is ridiculous and I love it. It is so big I would think Paul would adore it.
Many years ago I was browsing in a pawnbrokers. The sales assistant assured a customer that she was "90% certain that the (TAG) watch was probably genuine". A real vote of confidence.
I hear similar to this quite often “Oh you like watches? You should talk to Dave. He loves watches. He’s got one of those Tag Heuers” Drives me mad!
Better than if Dave is into mvmt, Daniel Wellington etc...
Got an aquamaster as a gift for a couple of years ago. Was pretty in to watches at that time, so even though it was a nice gift I felt it was kind of waste of money. (Had omega and seiko watches at that time) However I did put a smile on my face and accepted the watch. Now a couple of years later I can say that the aquamaster is by far the one watch I worn the most. I abused it quite a lot and it is very resistant to scratches. It is not a luxury watch, but pretty good size, feels good on the wrist, no problems with it so far, niether any service costs :D
Paul. Agree mostly but also think Navitimer has place in any watch collection. It is instantly recognisable in a room just as much as a Submariner. Think you would love old navitimer 2 on your wrist, on black leather strap.
many consider it the first smart watch
@@billcosgrave6232 Totally agree. The amount of calculations a skilled user could work out is astonishing.
Never been a fan of Tag’s, but I once owned a Breitling Emergency and loved that watch. It was always a conversational piece wherever I went. Luckily, I was able to sell it for a profit once it was time to move on! I mainly stick with Rolex, but admittedly, I do have a soft spot for Omega. Personally, I only ever buy a watch that speaks to me, and if it happens to be a hot model that’ll appreciate over time, all the better! Super solid advice here Paul, after all, you’re only looking out for everyone from an insider’s perspective.
Im totally new to watches but would 1 day love a Rolex Daytona!! Like the way you tell it straight & cover things you wouldnt even think about when buying such an item & a friendly approach to the topic Paul, Very Informative to the point at many levels of people buying a Luxury Watch etc having knowledge on which can be a mine~field to many!!!! Keep~it~up~Paul!!! Cheers~Champ!!
Your shirt is perfectly white, what do you use? Persil, Daz or OMO?
Bob Roberts Spirit vinegar
No chance of spotting the grease from sausages down Paul’s shirts. Wish my wife was as handy as his with a packet of Daz.
I’ve never ever lost any money - spent it buying whatever I wanted.
Hi Paul a great video and you are technically correct. All I will say however is don't let resale "totally" dominate your thinking. When I heard you say you "couldn't bring yourself" to purchase a navitimer I felt kind of sad. While I am not a personal fan of this model it is iconic, the B01 chronograph is a stellar movement, one of the best. You shouldn't let the resale value affect you if you love that watch. Cheers and thanks for the content.
After watching all your videos and becoming a lot more “watch aware” I sold my pre-owned Tag Heuer (thankfully without much loss) and started saving for a Rolex.
When I watched this video I just knew Tag Heuer was going to be one of the two brands mentioned.
I have always been a chronograph watch wearer but realise that I am never going to get that Daytona, so aiming for a Sub with date.
About to start the AD relationship “thing”, but with no buying history and only after one watch... I can see me using my phone as a timepiece for quite a bit longer 😆
Glad you returned to RUclips Paul. Enjoy every video you post. Thanks.
It’s an interesting business model. Extensive AD network where no one can buy anything LOL.
f.f.s kenny buy yourself a tag chrono used battery 300 notes ,automatic 600 notes , with your saving on the rolex take familly on holiday , or deposit on a house , tag better looking watch sorted .
Stevie.. yes I suppose. Paul did say, as long as you get a huge discount on retail so soften the blow. Thanks 👍🏻
don't listen to these folks...I just bought a Hulk submariner from an AD with no prior relationship! look at the no date too, its a classic sub...if the wait is too long, buy a preowned from a reputable dealer
Get a Tudor Pepsi GMT Kenny...it's a beauty.
100% agreed, they are the 2 brands that I do not even spend a second checking when I hunt through watch sellers.
I am just not interested... But saying that, everything has a price.
Buy any new high end luxury watch in gold,Patek,AP, Vacheron,Breguet,Blancpain etc, etc,etc and you will lose your shirt . Probably around the same percentage as Breitling or Tag. Am I right?
Is the Oyster Perpetual a "shop window watch"?
Yup,,for sure fella,!
no
Yes
maybe
I don't consider my small collection an investment. I consider it my joy my hobby. I have only one watch that might be an investment my Rolex GMT Master II Black. I also consider it a curse because I worry about it too much. I've subscribed to your channel for now but more to get watch news. Hopefully new releases but not investment news.
this watch crap is just insane you can not even buy a rolex or any other luxury timepiece when you want them and there is always a fear of getting a fake one for a crapload of money, and why would you buy one just to sell it in a year a person can not even enjoy that purchase, money wasted in my opinion even with the profit you get
I bought my son a TAG Aquaracer Cailbre 5, the reasons behind that purchase was mainly the cost of getting him started, I got 15% off, probably could have pushed for more looking back. But sub 2k for a new (very entry level) luxury watch suited my budget. The good thing is he wants something better, which has motivated him to have that goal.
Smart and insightful. Brilliant. Tag Heur has alway been suspect to me in terms value and they didn’t appeal to me (I think it was when they got Tom Cruise to pitch for them LOL). I just bought a preowned Tissot Visodate in pristine condition with box etc. For $340US. It is a lovely watch I enjoy I know I won’t lose money on it since Amazon has it for double the price. I will save and buy a Tudor as they are very appealing to me.
What’s up Paul thank you for the video my question has nothing really to do with watches but what actions to take after you buy a watch from a very busy street to ensure that you get home safe and not get robbed by somebody on your way home I see some people put the bag that they will get it from the dealer in a Another bag so nobody can have any idea what they actually have in it what’s your take on it
This is one of my favorite channels on the tube. Thanks for doing what you do for the watch community. Keep being a stud Paul.
Totally appreciate your perspective. I got the new Cermit and the new Bamford Aquaracer. I know the Cermit is a winner but wearing the bamford brings a bigger grin on my face 🤷🏻♂️
Rolex have very little design variations , most 3 hands look the same, no different complications and there is one chrono. The designs have been around longer than me. At least Tag change their designs regularly and are modern. Glad you like your Bamford.
its all relative, i now have rolex but i am in my 40s, nothing wrong with a young guy or someone buying an aquaracer for example, used for 600 quid or comparative , i had a tag years back , 3 in fact, loved them and miss each of them. wish i kept them for the collection to see the journey and have the memories
I got my two Tag Heuer F1 watches at very good discount. My RRP £1150 I got for £595 brand new and my RRP £1050 for £650. Which is damn near 50% on the first and 40% on the second. Happy with that!
How?
@@DoritoDawg from a company called Chronext based in London (they’re online too). Not sure if they’ll have such good deals now, as this was 3 and 4 years ago I got these but still worth a look.
Maybe your police friend can investigate the guys who mugged you
There's a lot of people walking around thinking they're Steve Mcqueen wearing Tag Monaco(s)...
I love the Monaco but think it's always over priced even used. Love McQueen but his association with the watch made it and icon and destroyed it as properly price watch.
He was a Rolex man he only wore a Tag in one movie
@@datsunmadman and only because they had loads that hadn't sold
Don't know why you want to buy that... it is fine for formal wear but... no...
What about the fact that you can’t buy Rolex anymore? That’s a major factor nowadays... people simply have to look to other brands. I’m not saying tag and breitling are the brands to buy, but even if like me you have saved the funds for a Rolex, you just can’t buy one. Add that into the conversation.
he makes complicated something that shouldn't be..why not just say buy them used not new and problem solved🤷♂️
Always be true to yourself. That's how you create trust in your followers. Keep up the awesome work
Rolex owe you a lot for posting this video but I have to admit I completely agree with your every single word. Looking to buy my first Rolex. What model number would you advise to get out of today based on not loosing money in the future? Lets say budget up to £20K. No obligation for advice whats of ever. Thank you
Has anyone seen the Archie Luxury video at the Brietling dealer ... lol
As he would descibe these, shitters absolute shitters lol
Patrick Soos🤣
Yes, then the Breitling sales guys making fun of him from within the store. LOL. Talk about a lot guy with nothing better to do in life, but that time he was accurate about Breitling.
Yes, and I told my fkhead friends about it. 😆
Archie is a moron
I’m a big fan of Rolex and I have more than one (all sports models) but I bought a beautiful 4 year old Breitling transocean in rose gold with a brown leather strap last year from watchfinder. It came with all the documentation & packaging and looks brand new. I saved almost 50% by buying pre owned. It’s a lovely watch & sometimes it’s nice to have something because you like it regardless of residual value. I’m not a watch dealer so making money on them isn’t important to me. I just like nice watches.
Very interesting videos. New here but good to hear your business views. ⌚
I used to work at Goldsmiths in the City of London part-time when I was a student. All watches are bought at roughly half-price to 25%. Renting/leasing a shop in somewhere like the Royal Exchange is not cheap then furnishing, employing sales-staff, bills and taxes. If you don't want to pay the markup you can always buy online or some shady source. I bought a Baume Et Mercier Capleland S 8220 with a former colleague's staff discount of about 22% 16 years ago. Baume Et Mercier/Tag won't charge the sky to service a mechanical watch
Patek Philippe/Rolex will. Yes, you can take it an independent but then they will use after-market parts and you end up with Frankenstein watch. I'd only buy a send hand watch if they can prove it's only ever been serviced by the manufacturer. If you want to invest get a Patek Philippe or bitcoins you'll make a lot more money in shorter space of time...
