"you are here to play the original content that is made for BMS, and trust me, you know a lot of it" > transitions into "There's a lot we don't know" by Sobrem This is either peak subliminal messaging or the most lucky unintentional one
BMS is one of my favorite rabbit holes to fall into. For something so obscure, it's a miracle that so much artistry, and literally 75% of popular rhythm game artists have their roots here.
[ 990 pts. ] Deducted 10 pts. for not mentioning 14k Double Play which has far more players than 10k or 24/48k. Honestly, what a great video! I would send this to everyone who asks which osu! skin I use (I play BMS, sike!). You got it all covered and I think a lot of VSRG players get interested in trying BMS after watching. 制作お疲れ様でした!
Thank you for making this video! I have found out about BMS 10 years ago, only started commenting on BMS songs in G2R2018, and now I’m joining BOF:TT myself! Hope to see more of these kinds of video in the future!
Thank you for bringing the game to a wider audience. It's so sad that most BOF music ends up in other games yet very few people actually know or understand where it originally comes from. You earned a sub.
Please stand for the international rhythm game anthem: "conflict" by siromaru + cranky Absolute respect for how influential BMS and its music has been for rhythm gaming. I'm still rather intimidated with actually playing it, but I've been happy to follow what's coming out of the BMS scene since 2009 (when BOF started releasing the free GroundbreakinG digital albums with each year's best/outstanding entries).
This was an amazing video essay! Thank you for making and sharing this! Hopefully this will get more people into the hardcore rg scene, always happy to have more people to enjoy these games with :3
Really appreciate your videos for making these more obscure information more accessible, without having to look up in a japanese website or discord servers.
After realizing that if a game’s soundtrack can convince me to buy it, I might enjoy rhythm games I started playing them casually. As I am the type of person who really dives deep into things I enjoy I ended up looking into some more open source games like stepmania. In the end I generally avoid community driven rhythm games because the vast majority of content for them that I want to play is far above my skill level. On the other hand most rhythm games you can buy on pc or console have a better difficulty curve, but also have hundreds of dollars in DLC. Meaning there is a good chance that a lot of the content you want to experience is locked behind an additional paywall. It kind of makes it difficult for a beginner to start out as you may have to spend a lot of money or spend hundreds to thousands of hours playing songs you weren’t interested in(you will inevitably find new songs and artists you like) before you can get to the stuff you actually wanted to do. I still enjoy these games and their music as a casual fan(sad that the chrono circle servers are being shut down), but it seems impossible for me to ever go beyond that.
Thanks for making this video. I’d gotten into Arcaea a year ago and was interested in most of their songs. “conflict” by siromaru and cranky caught my attention for its lyrics and I looked it up. I learned it’s pretty old and that it was from BMS, but had no idea what it is. I really appreciate this!
Thank you so much for making this video. As someone who WANTS to get into the larger rhythm game community and make original music for games, and even an album in the future, this is the perfect video to explain what I have been inspired by for the past 4 years. Thank you.
It took a couple minutes but when I realized all the times I've seen "BOF" in the titles of music videos, it suddenly hit me just how influential it really is. Holy crap.
Great video! I just started playing BMS about a week and a half ago, so this video was a pleasant surprise. Got an external SSD to store my BMS files on lol.
[1000 pts] **DJ Adrichii** - BMS or Be-music source is one of my game changer in the rhythm game genre. Also, I’m a BMS creator since I started making BMS around February 2023 during PABAT event which marks as my first BMS debut but the sound getting worse at the end, with the help of my friends including OfficialAz3, I started to make more interesting by joining MumeisenA1 and I made Sakura Sweet Sunshine during MA2023 and Suitoremon Kawaii Dance Party from BOFNT (you’ve just played for the first time during your stream and I was reacting to it, appreciate that 🎉). Now I made 6 songs in total but my latest work from mumeisen was released entitled Usagi Matsuri Summer Blossom which seems legitimately improvement in BMS and 6th in the mumeisen ranking. But anyway I really hope that more songs to make and I wish to lot more improve to make BMS in the near future! Sorry for the long comments and Thank you for making it!
Oh nice, thanks for this! I actually started on Pop'n Music 3 and beatmania: Best Hits before moving on to BM98 and Mixwaver, later Mixwaver 2, but I got out of it because MW2 just didn't work well in modern versions of Windows. These look really good! I'm glad to see BMS is still going (also played so JZBMS Player on PSP haha)
Aaaaaaaaaaaa, awesome video! :D The BMS scene looks pretty dope and it's especially nice to see that some rhythm game song artists we know today got to where they are now thanks to participating in BMS events! 💙
i've been a iidx player for just under 20 years and while I've had friends suggest BMS to me I didn't think of it as anything than 'joke-difficulty charts with easy timing for people who don't have access to an arcade' gonna check it out, either by digging out my old dao or ordering a new controller one of these days thanks for the video also RIP shiki
you should do a episode tapping in on the Bemani Pachislots, Those things are wild. I have acquired both the Beatmania and the IIDX (Sevens Beat) Pachislots and I am trying to figure these things out ahahahah
i knew of bms even tho i don’t play rhythm games really, only knew it because i love some of the music videos made for bof and i was confused why they had [BOFU] on the titles so then i started looking into it and found a whole new world
I remember actually getting confused a lot between BMS and IIDX, so much I kinda having a hard time to know which songs is actually from IIDX, or BOF events
I remember bms stuff as far back as bm98 and bemaniadx! (even had a faq for IIDX on ddrfreak and made a couple more modern skins for bmDX!) I think I played around with LR2 briefly but didn't see much of the fan-made content. most of it seems way out of my depth on IIDX anyway! but it's cool to see the bms scene still going strong with new content coming out regularly.
I've listened to a lot of BMS songs without knowing what BMS was, you've taught me what it is and despite not being good at anything 4k, I do want to try BMS! Also f*** Freedom Dive, I love the song, I hate to play it, it's my kryptonite no matter the rhythm game haha
Don't be discouraged in trying higher keymodes! It doesn't really matter how good/bad you are in 4k, you can still play and learn 7k if you put your mind to it.
7k and 4k are fundamentally different games!!! i suck balls at 4k but i can play 7k (or 8k technically???) very comfortably go give it a try!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thank you so much for making this video! i knew about bof contests but because they’re so huge i mistook them for official bemani contests. after keeping up with bof song releases for a while i’m happy to have a simple resource on how to actually play them! one last thing, would it be possible to put the bms files showcased in this video in a pack for download? if this violates any creators’ distribution rights then don’t do it but if everyone is fine with it i would really like to check out all the maps you played
Even if you don't play BMS through Beatoraja or LR2. If you've played Musynx or Muse Dash, those games OST's are comprised of a ton of BMS content to begin with.
So does the term illegal bms mean either making a bms based off a song you don't have the full on rights to, even if you have the stems properly keysounded (such as an existing video game soundtrack or creative commons license song), OR as making a bms without full keysounds, even if you created a unique song? I only presumed before that illegal bms implied playing existing beatmania content, including licensed content that has been removed from existence and has been ported to bms for preservation purposes.
I don't know the answer, but it seems like the community is OK with making BMS of remixes of songs you don't own as long as you made the remix... I think.
I tried to do this with a 2tb drive and ExFAT, and the enormous number of tiny files were so inefficient that I ran out of space and had to switch to ntfs 😅
Once got myself on the BoF site. I got so confused with navigating it, once got the access to leaderboard, then I couldn't, though I quite understand the basic of accessing the Team's content. The Japanese language Didn't help at all.... Also, not putting another popular music Mope-Mope by LeaF sounds like a crime.
I have some of the ps1 and 2 era beatmania turntables and would like to get started playing on PC. Does anyone know of any good modern adapters to be able to use to get my feet wet with this?
Thank you for giving attention on BMS.
