One thing I always noticed with carrier / TK was that carriers were quieter but the frequency / resonance of the engine running was different and caused way more vibrations inside of the truck especially when parked at night and trying to sleep
My homemade APU has an aluminum base. This promotes longevity and lightness. It also makes a given diesel noticeably quieter. I haven't seen any reefers, that have aluminum frames. I've also built aircraft engine mounts. Carved rubber and leather washers. Hundreds of washers. As quiet as you can get. Vornado made a window air conditioner. Aluminum pan. Aluminum case. The quietest unit around.
Given that I've seen high-amp gensets (and APU) that are whisper quiet, its obvious that any manufacturer who creates a reefer that blasts 85 db isn't actually trying to be particularly quiet. That's actually quite loud. I'm suspecting the customers don't really care for it to be REALLY quiet.
Nothing worse than parked for the night thinking I have quiet spot…….Then there’s the TK, Carrier or some kid with straight pipes RUNNING RGHT AONG SIDE!!!! APUs are just as bad!! Am I the only one that can keep an Espar working?
It doesn’t matter if you have a Kenworth W900L with a premium interior package. I barely hear the reefer unit no matter if the settings are on start/stop, for us old hands cycle century or continuous cycle. Also the trailer brand doesn’t play a role if the reefer unit is loud or less noisy. 🤣😂 I can care less about the noise. There is noise at truck stops in general. It’s hard to escape sometimes. The only thing I care about is which unit is the absolute most energy efficient, which brand has the best warranty and which brand has the most repair shop around the country.
Noise or not there are too many headaches with refer units to be pulling them anyway. In fact due to parking, security and noise I will only work for companies where I am going from their yards to their yards. I'd rather take less money and have the serenity, parking and security.
I don’t know about these latest carrier units but carrier always had that crazy low frequency and viabration that I don’t know how drivers sleep with them, i have a s600 and its not too bad on noise
There was talk here the UK albeit years ago of placing the reefer under the trailer behind the legs. Anyone know what became of the idea. I’ve seen any so assuming they didn’t take off.
Those damn reefers are so annoying. I've had truckers park next to me with those damn reefers and I'm super annoyed by them. They need to park in the boonies by themselves away from all the truck stops. I've hauled those a few times in the past and I don't care if the company pays more I refuse to haul those damn reefers. It's very difficult to sleep around them let alone have to haul one with you and having to be stuck with them. I rather become a flat be driver than a damn reefer driver.
@@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News yes. I'm aware that van drivers do get paid less but when it comes to getting rest sleep is very important especially as on OTR driver. My goal is to get appx. 7 hours of sleep and when I get woken up in the middle of the night by a reefer driver looking to park next to me it's very annoying. The manufacturers of these reefers need to make them no noise or improve reducing the noise.

Aish! That sounds pretty gruesome
Ronen
Excellent test
Carrier won
Have a nice day
Back in the day, all carrier units were louder than the competitors. Good on them for improvements.
They heard the pleas and made the changes

What is the TK model? Could not see the markings... all the carrier 7300/7500 have different motors from the vector he was testing.

I don’t know the why they still can’t do hybrids?
When I was new the only company that would hire me was pulling a refer for the worst company in America . Never Ever again! It was not a Carrier
Yikes!
How about hybrid reefer !! It’s about time Elon should look in to this reefer units
Thermo is always KING! carrier go hell pls! even the truck parked 50 ft away u can hear carrier is crying and begging all night! 😂
Thanks for sharing
Good experiment
Appreciate the feedback!

I thought you were only buying freightliners?
Nope, we buy Volvos too

Come on Ronan it’s where the reefer shuts off that wakes me up NOT when it’s running
Facts, good point
It doesn't matter because some clown will park next to you and idle all night hahaha
Carrier fixed their noise problem? Quick let's pretend it never existed, and drivers never pull anything but brand new reefers 🙄
My company could care less. Whatever cheaper
Some companies do, we don't. It's important for us to find a balance between what is affordable and what is comfortable for our drivers!
Sir we're I can purchase refer trailer. Could you give me a good dealership address and phone, 2025 I am planning to finance ten refer
