A true rags-to-riches or trash-to-treasure love story...perfection!! Just as you were saying "giving it a haircut", I did too!! 😘🤭✂️
I did this in the 90s -- a pillow for my niece and nephew - their first initial snipped out. It was fun!
What a fun way to make a journal
I’ve never seen anything like this before. This is so fun! Can’t wait to see where this cover takes you. Even your “Oh No!!” worked out ok. So cool. Thanks for sharing!!♥️♥️♥️
OH! Idea! Neon thread would be so fun to sew with!!!
LOVE it! If my desk wasn't such a disaster, I'd make one right NOW! Or my dining table is totally clean. Hmmmm . . .
Thank you, thank you for expanding my horizons, again. This will make a comfortable ,to the hand, journal.
Barbara, What a fun ida! You make it look so easy to construct this slashed fabric journal cover. I'm saving this video for future use.
Holy cow! What do I see here? I need something like that in my life! 😮❤
Very uniquely different! Completely awesome!❤❤❤
Never have I seen this before thankyou for sharing
I always try to repurpose everything or donate. Trash can be beautiful as well. Love this option. Thank you soooo much
Hello Barbara. I was surprised to seeing you doing. I use to do it when I was in middle school about 100 years ago😁 not really but it’s been a minute like 50 years😊🤣 I love the look of this. Why did I not think of doing a journal cover I’ll never know. Love it.
What a fun project! I love the finished journal cover and the repurposing of materials. Thank you for sharing another wonderful junk journal idea.
I seen something like this in one of my quilting books and magazines from craft stores. I learned that from my grandmother. She kept everything. She would make patterns for clothes from grocery bags ❤ thank you for spreading the word.
That’s amazing! 😊❤️
@@49dragonfliesI also saw something like this on a quilting program and they used an old toothbrush and roughed it up. I just remembered that ❤️
Barbara, what a great idea. I too like the second the best although the first is great too. These turned out beautifully! TFS!❤
So cool, and so fun! Love this! Thank you!🥰❤
Oh, Barbara, I have been away too long. I just cleaned out my closet and have a pair of blue jeans that I discarded. But stashed them in my fabric pile. It was meant to be, I must use them to make some beautiful jj covers. What serendipity! Perfect timing to find your video. ❤✨️
❤❤❤I love this idea so much ❤❤❤ danke, dass du deine Ideen immer mit uns teilst. Ich finde es bewundernswert, wie viel Kreativität in dir steckt. Ganz liebe Grüße aus NÖ 😘
Dear Barbara! ❤ Wow! This is absolutely amazing ! I do not know if i can do that but i will certainly try!!!! I love when you use denin! Have a wonderful day and weekend!!!! ❤
Perfect timing for me to see this video! I just "dugout" my sewing machine (which was buried on my paper crafting table) to replace a zipper!! Now I can do sewing on and in my journals (until the machine gets buried again!). I am not even close to as neat a crafter as you are, so it's hard for me to switch when I get one thing going. I can sew things or paint, stamp, emboss, dye, spray, etc things! Now that my machine is out, I need to find all the fabric and journal covers, cards, flips, and whatever I need to be sewn before it gets buried again (or do a better job of organizing and decluttering). Love the frayed journal. And yes, I like the one with more colors showing, but you could probably spray the frayed edges (carefully) to amp up the color. Just an idea. TFS. ❤❤❤
Love this idea for a journal cover. I’ve used it making blankets/quilts using flannel. Lots of tutorials out there for the process and some are exquisite. The reason your first cover is more frayed is because it was washed with other items. I’ve always used a couple towels to wash and dry with to make it fray more. Thanks for sharing!❤
I love the look of this journal! I like small soft cover journals the best, like this one.
Thank you for sharing how you made it. I am definitely going to give this technique a go. ❤
Love it!!!!!
❤❤❤ I love it! The raggedy look, how you explained it all, the crinkly inside ❤❤❤ will you show us the making of the signature(s) too sweetie?
Thanks sweetie! Once I figure out what to make, sure! 😊❤️
Absolutely love this. You are so creative xx
ABSOLUT GENIAL! Ich liebe diese fusselige Etwas 🥰. Muss sofort los und passenden Stoff raussuchen....
I absolutely love this, and am always blown away by the new ideas you come up with. I’m definitely going to try one of these. Since you’re thinking of a hidden binding, maybe it would be cool with paper bag journal signatures. I love the crinkly sound too! Thanks so much for being so generous with sharing your techniques and processes! This is another fantastic video.
Hi Barbara. This is such a unique idea. I really love how the cover came out. ❤😊
What a fun cover and great way to use of fabric scraps! An idea for a solution to your fabric glue. Take a snapshot of the ingredients on your Action fabric glue and then compare it to other fabric glues to see if there is the same formula on another brand. So many products are made by the same company who just put different labels on their containers.
Thanks for the tip! ❤️
Wonderful project🎉 Maybe a booklet of small collages with fabric/paper (and quotes)😊
Very, very nice! Thank you! 💜💜💜
What a great look. I can’t wait to try one. I just love the denim as it frays so well. Thanks Barbara.
I got a bit nervous seeing the washing machine used at a junk journal video. 😜 btw the 49dragonflies song is singing in my head while watching this.
😊🥰
Love it Barbara. I do love messy messy. Like how the colors peek through. TFS and inspiring. ❤❤Nebraska
Stupendo 😍 come tutte le cose che crei! ❤️🙏🍀💯🍀🙏❤️
I love fabric shredding! I actually made spines for those little denim travel journals I made from one of your videos! It gives them such a fun look! Thanks for sharing your ideas!
I use a similar technique on my cloth feminine pads. I use a seam ripper to make the slashes through the fabric, and it works great!
Jumping right in, I HAVE to try this NOW!
me too!
I love, LOVE this!!! So unique and creative!
How fun! They both turned out amazing 🤩. I really like the straight lines. I’m not sure making the crazy stitches would work as well. But it’s always worth trying! Thanks for more wonderful inspiration! Hugs ❤️🤗
Such a cute little journal cover ❤
Such a cool cover!! I have lots of fabric scraps that would work wonderfully for this!!
Hello Barbara from Vienna! Wow, for me, a hard no ... but you have the patience. "Fabric slashing"... never have heard of that. Love the result with denim.❤
Hi Barbara. A small jeans journal like this is on my list of projects to try.
Suggestion for pages; use a combination of your jeans gelli plate kit, some of your other kits and packaging papers on which you can create your own art & collages.
Great idea! Thanks! ❤️
I forgot about this method. We did it making a quilt block called chenille. Turned out great! Never thought to make a journsl cover! You are a clever girl! TFS🤔
Absolutely gorgeous❤🎉
Love this! Definitely going to try!❤
That's really really cool! Never saw it before!
Working on an altered book; themed "sewing and fashion" Now I know what to make for the cover!!! Thank you so much Barbara 🤗🕊️
Wonderful! Have fun! ❤️
what a cute little cover 💖
Barbara: as usual your project is so creative. I can't wait to see where you take this one. Carol From California
❤what a great journal cover. Maybe your pages can be a mixture of fabric pages and packaging paper pages… xx
I love how this turned out. I’ve been wanting to try a denim journal. Will def have to try this technique.
Looks great, can't wait to see what you do next. Have a wonderful weekend ❣️
Thanks, you too! Didn’t you want to go to sleep? 🙈
@@49dragonflies oh, I often say I want to sleep but I suffer from severe insomnia so I seldom do. It's not all bad, I have more time to watch your videos 😂😘
Very cool, Barbara. You do some of the most unique projects! For pages... I would go for the sound, personally. So, packing papers, vellum, etc. Should make the whole thing lay soft in your hands. 😉❤️
Thank you so much! 😊
This is go nice! Many years ago a friend mad a coat with this technique, but on the bias, and she brushed the slits. The fabric on the bias doesn’t unravel as much. You may want to try it. All said, I loved your covers. TYFS🤗❤️😘🫶🏻🤩🤩🤩
This is such a fun technique! I've done this with papers for Dephemerember!!!!
Oh yeah, I need to make this for my art JJ
This is so amazing! Love it, love it, love it! ❤
And I'm looking forward to see your ideas for the inside pages... I can't come up with any suggestions. Total blank....
Very cute
I love this cover! I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out in the end!❤
Thanks! Me too! 😂
@@49dragonflies it will be a surprise for all of us! 😁😂 But I know it's gonna be beautiful!
Love this so much. Thanks so much for sharing. Can’t wait to try this!💙
Barbara, I use a delicates wash bag to put my scraps in to wash, then any loose threads will also stay in the bag and not all over your washing I learnt the hard way 😂😂
Great idea! 😊👍🏻
Instead of a hidden spine use some colorful thread to sew the pages in and it will show on the piece of denim without fabric.
That was fun! 🎉❤
Oh my goodness! I need to make this, so cool!
What a fab project🎉 love the result… thx🤩
Love this idea and the cover!
I hope you saved the threads you cut off.
I repurpose my extra threads for when I want them as texture
On my pages and ephemera. I keep a little jar with cut off threads.
Beautiful! I can well imagine, that something with water, the ocean, ocean animals will fit very well with this blue cover! I am curious, for what you will decide! Love from Rita! 😘🌊🐠🦈🐟🐳🐋👙🏖️⛱️🌞😎
What a fun and creative technique. I love the things that you come up with and present. I have a bit of denim left from the first prompt of last years Dephemerember (butterfly and 3 torn things)... This is the perfect project for it to be used for! Thank you so much for another wonderful video and idea/tutorial 💗💗🥰
Love this idea!
Love this! I want to make a memory journal for my best furry friend, Loki, who died in April & who I miss terribly. And this kind of cover would be perfect since he did go through a destructapuppy stage. Some of his very well loved toys that are basically already scraps, could become scraps for his journal cover (including a bit of the car seatbelt he munched on because he didn’t like wearing it lol. I wonder if I could sew a cute puppy face instead of just lines 🤔💕🥺🐶🐾 It would have to be a cartoon looking dog as anything beyond that is beyond my paltry sewing skills, but how cute would it be to have to colours peeping out to make the face of a floofy person 💕
Aaaaaw what an adorable idea to honor sweet Loki! ❤️
Das ist cool💕💕💕💕
Fun cover!
Love it
I have been making these kinds of journal cover for a few years now
Love it🎶🦋 Will make an arty cover for my art journal💃🌻
Love this, I'm going to try to make one. 😊
Sewing thru that spine area and adding beads to the threads would be very cool
CUTE idea!!!
This is adorable, Barbara!🤩
I have several old pairs of jeans from my son(adult son-so lots of fabric😁). And... I recently treated myself to a pair of Guggenhein fabric scissors... half off$! The tips are supposed to be sharp, too. This project would be a great test. IF I have the patience.😵💫 lol And if my machine can handle it.😳 A "denim"/heavy duty needle helps the less robust machines.👍
A little "tip": I have some nylon bags for washing delicates in. That may help to wrangle in those loose thread & fibers. Just a thought I had.💗
I always love your videos & projects... & YOU!😍
Thank you and great tip! ❤️
O segundo ficou mais interessante. 🙏
💜💜💜
❤❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤
I bought a sari in my charity shop for £1 I’ve made a journal cover from it and there is plenty left over for more .
Wonderful 😊
♥♥♥
There goes hubby's denim.
😂😅😊
😂
🤣🤣🤣💗
😂😂😂
Throw it in the washer and dryer. It will ruffle up beautifully.
Don’t have a dryer….
I love it! 🤩🤩🤩 But I’m in war with my sawing machine 😅
I hope you win! 🫣🥰
@@49dragonflies 😂
Barbara I wonder if a razor blade or rotary cutter would make the slashing easier.
❤❤❤❤🇺🇸
I’m reading your washing machine to see if I can figure out the words, 😂! Some of them are very similar to English, and others are English. 😊
😁
I love this technique. It will make a lovely journal. Would it work if you added whole pieces as layers or does it have to be scraps?
I think for the raggedy effect you need scraps.
Wouldn't laundry bag help the issue with threads and stuff?
Worth trying for sure! 😊
How about a fabric journal with fabric pages u can stamp, distress and make pockets even for tags u can put fabric over card ❤
Thanks for the idea! ❤️
I think it would have been easier to use a sharp straight edge razor and just not press hard with it. It would have cut through those top layers a lot easier and quicker, and you still could have left the bottom layer of fabric where the spine is.
Isn’t it sad when they stop making your favourite products? Especially when they were really effective. The product I miss was actually a shoe deodoriser of all things lol. Called Odorex & made in New Zealand, it was the most effective product ever! Never understood why they stopped making it & why it didn’t become the biggest product of its kind on the market …/sigh
I feel you! 😘
❤❤❤
