Thanks for all these great reminders. I started pottery about a year ago and I am currently making my first batch of plates for my mum's birthday. So this is literally the first plates I have ever made. I have been so harsh on myself because of the little imperfections of the plates. I then stumbled into a pottery shop while on holidays and I absolutely loved every single piece that was being sold. I checked out the plates for some inspiration and realised that they all had similar imperfections like my plates. Nevertheless the plates were sold for €29. In a shop. And I liked them. BECAUSE of their imperfect style. So I guess I learned a lesson....

Hi Lilly! These are great tips/lesson. We often forget that we all have to crawl before we can walk, and walk before we run. On the way, we will fall down a lot. It's part of the learning process. I love watching kids who don't know they are "failing" as they experiment and figure things out. They have no preconceived notions and are less inhibited by what they think others think about them.
One of the most important life lessons is self maintenance. We must pay attention to our own well-being. That means setting aside time to indulge our personal needs and desires. For creative people, that is making things for no other reason than it makes us smile.
Stay well and stay centered! Thanks for sharing.

This could come at a better time, just this morning I was biking to my studio and wondered why I'm so hard on myself and I probably should play more, checking out a few books on play in adults and now during lunch I see this! Thank you for this video and I believe it's a sign ;)

As a ceramic studio owner myself i've been feeling so low and burned out for the past few months and this video was just a little light in the dark. Thank you Lilly ✨

I did a childs class one time that I will always remember. The mom kinda took over and the little boy was sooo upset 😢- so now I would rather have the parent go shopping for an hour or so. The results were great and the child was sooo proud.🎉🎉🎉

Hi Lilly. Thank you for this video, some really good tips to remember. I am just wondering do you ever try another type of medium, like painting, sketching etc. I find that creatives seem to have a dabble in another outlet. Eg. some photographers seem to enjoy painting as well. Love your videos. I need to find time to do some pottery again. ❤

grind culture in capitalism has really made us loss the join in trying and failing as we create i think. really enjoyed your perspective and i’m definitely trying not to be hard on myself as i’m good on the throwing but weary on the decorating/glazing/finessing stages

Hey Lilly, we've been enjoying your videos for a few months now, as we plan building our studio in rural NW Auckland... however... your new filter... sorry, it's really off-putting.

I would say I’m very good at pottery, but it has taken many MANY hours.
I definitely wasn’t a natural. I was already an artist, mainly an illustrator, and I wasn’t a natural at that either.
I can confidently say, at this point, that I am a good artist, but that’s only because I really wanted to be one.
BTW, I don’t know anything about you, beyond your videos, Mae, but you seem really cool.❤
