to me, the purpose of the hand shuffling is to hope to keep all your cards and combos fresh in your mind, as opposed to looking at them all at once and overlooking something. you want to see them one at a time, and keep all of those effects individualized as well as trying to combo them
I was shocked at how loose PV and Calcano both played in their match.. At 40:02 PV lets Calcano attack with his ordeal before casting ray of dissolution, at 42:13 Calcano attacks with only purphuros instead of the team which would put PV down to 1 and dead to a purphuros trigger, at 43:35 Calcano declines to activate purphuros to counter the last breath on his minotaur skullcleaver, and he didnt cast firedrinker precombat to ensure necessary devotion.. Just goes to show you even the pros make mistakes. Nobody's perfect.
the 2nd game was fucking amazing. topdecking fanatic of mogis was optimal. holy shit, lsv is 30 years old? dude looks old like a history professor with sabbatical.
15:40 Why did LSV waited until Pikula's upkeep to use the whip? So Pikula has no chance to cast anything but instant cards and possibly have less mana to use in his turn?
I think the shuffling is an example of group think mostly. A couple ppl started doing it along time ago then more ppl started copying them and so on. Now so many ppl do it that new players think they have to do it too or they will look weird and the vicious cycle continues...
QueenFiria It's like chip shuffling in Poker. Not only is it shuffling the cards, but it is also a way to show off your ability and experience to amaze and intimidate the other players. I am sure the irritation is a major part of the strategy.
Wil Phan I'm sure it has a comfort factor. I used to shuffle chips while I was playing online poker just to make me have an outlet for the unease I was feeling..
I've actually also heard that it prevents the opposing player on the off-chance that they can see your cards, or have an accomplice look at your cards during a crowded area such as FNM (there was a scandal back in the day of someone had been playing with sunglasses, and remember they are surrounded by cameras)
Does Mark Rosewater ever not talk about himself? Has he ever been enthusiastic about anything someone else has thought of? Sure, he gets a lot of unnecessary hate for things that aren't his fault, but his interpersonal skills make me want to chew my own ears off.
One of my favorite LSV draft decks ever. U/B control is so sweet.
Game TWO! If that is not the game of the tour, we are really going to see something! AMAZING

To be fair, you could just not read the comments until the video is over if you're worried about spoilers.

dude looks old like a history professor with sabbatical.
LSV IS THE BEST, SUCH A FUNNY GUY!
It was bestowed with a Nimbus Naiad, so it did have flying at that particular juncture.
Amazing Games!!
funny that theros has had the best action i've seen. other than maybe the mega evolved control duel from the gatecrasher tourney.

Yes.
Please no one show the times of the games so that game 2 won't be spoiled for future viewers.
1:36 why didnt he draw at start of turn?
Pikula played magma jet on his upkeep so that he could scry 2 before drawing.
28:15 4/2 on a 2/4, both die. Am i missing something?
I'm sure you have your answer by now, but Disciple of Phenax is a 1/3.
He played magma jet during his upkeep so that's just his draw step.
All this hand shuffling is irritating. At 46:00 he's holding his blockers in hand, and shuffling them. Grr.
Grant Runtsch
I have played for a good chunk of my life, and I have never developed this as a habit.

Apparently Theros' underworld is a Mac Wallpaper?
lsv needs a crowd of ex-ECW supporters following him around at all times.
ELL ESS VEE ELL ESS VEE
Holy hell is seems interesting
Wtf!!!! 2:20 why draw a card out of magma jet?!
the edilon had flying... the cyclops would have done nothing when it went monstrous. he could have lived.
baleful eidilon does not have flying. it has death touch brother.
DEVASTATING Triton Tactics.
at 19:43 the announcer says Luis has a double death toucher. how???
