The Abandoned Places you show can be seen as a theater of urban warfare; they can also be seen as symbolic of the devastation of all wars. I think of the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, and think that you reference them here. Played at this time, this Passacaglia can be heard as a lament for those wars. Roman Turovsky was born in Ukraine, so for me this association is inevitable. The mindset of dominance and aggression , and the willingness to destroy and defile the property of others, is on full display here. You play this Passacaglia with a feeling of melancholy and urgency, but also with a sense of inevitabilty. Has it ever been any different? Your performance is haunting and beautiful, thank you.
This is such beautiful expressive playing Alberto. You negotiate the score of the Passacaglia like a dancer, stepping out the shapes and forms of the music, full of rhythm and grace. The music is enigmatic, creating a deep feeling of loss and sadness. The middle section, with its sighing echoes, is very beautiful, your pacing and phrasing are superb. The sound and tone of your Baroque lute has a lot of clarity, the sound projects very well, it weeps and mourns. Watching your video as you play, seeing the totally ravaged rooms decorated with colorful incomprehensible paintings, the music becomes a lament for the half world this structure has become, a twilight world of shadows and debris, and a lament for the shadowy state of mind that produced it, a state of mind that is too common in our world. I wish places like this didn't exist, but they do. Bravo for your powerful performance Alberto, and to Roman Turovsky for his striking composition.
Amazing! Again a perfect blend of music and photography. Just a tiny bit too much reverb for my taste, but well within the well-sounding range. You chose one of Roman's most effective compositions. Congratulations to another wonderful contribution 👍
Is the lowest bass A also a double course? I heard notes in two different octaves on the last note of the piece, but I thought a theorbo's bass strings were single strings, not in double courses.
Thank you Alberto….. you light up the day❤ again❤
Roman, this is exquisite. Your left hand is capable of balletic movement! Serious joy to be had here.

Very nice!
A perfect blend of decadence, and decadence.
The composer was born in Kyiv, Ukraine in 1961.
nice performance, thanks for sharing. Which Passacaglia is this?
Found it: SWV 5p 🙂

Yes, the strings are double octave because this is a baroque lute and not a theorbo.
