I understand the point of power corrupts and all, but it is such a BS that the fandom blindly claims that god gale ending is a evil one, because gale is more than justified tho do what he does here. Mystra basically groomed gale since he was a boy, used him, and then discarded him like he was nothing. She didn´t even bother to explain the whole orb business, and made gale feel guilty because of it, and to make it even worse, she tells gale to explode himself, like it was his obligation or something, worse goddess ever, i hope origin absolute gale succeed in overthrowning her.
It's bad, not necessarily because of him standing up to Mystra - but because it means his main personality flaw goes unchecked. It's the name of his domain, Ambition. Gale consistently overreaches. He ignored the one thing Mystra told him not to do because of the ambitions that rule him, it wasn't enough to have seen the realm of the gods and secrets other wizards would have died to even get a glimpse at. He HAD to see the one thing Mystra had told him not to pursue. Gale has a horrible inability to know when to stop. It's a very wizard flaw. If Gale ascends as he perhaps wants to, then he never learns from his initial mistake. He never learns how truly dangerous it can be when his ambitions grow outside of what his abilities can handle. It's outright stated by Raphael in any ending where Gale ascends to godhood and Raphael isn't killed that in time Gale will, with his lack of restraint and relentless ambition, will eventually cause a catastrophe that would be WORSE than anything Raphael could do if he'd got the crown. If he ascends he never learns to reign himself in when his ideas get too big, and in time, that fatal flaw in the hands of a god will cause unparalleled chaos and devastation. That's why it's his 'bad' ending. He leans into his greatest flaw and makes it his entire personality rather than learn from it.
@@TheCraftySam Not bad i would say, it´s neutral at best, and certainly even good if Tav/urge/origin main character ascend with him ( by the way he kept his promises ), cause they would always keep him in check, and even god gale himself dont appear to be this power-hungry maniac that the fandom paints him to be. Actually, in fact, if you check the devnotes of his dialogue in the epilogue, when questioned if he will eventually return to his old plan of revolting against Mystra, his internal monologue says he know that would be a very bad idea ( which shows he actually learned at least a little from his mistakes lol ) , so you can see that dispite his god status, he is not this mindless cataclysm villain raphael makes him to be. Speaking in Raphael btw, you should not really believe in that stupid narcissist, he tought that gale would just hand over the crown to him as a god... Also, ambition is not an evil trait, it´s more an neutral one, ambitious people can be both good or evil, and it is not like gale can do more about it since Ao wouldnt allow, Ao maybe will come around in a millenia or so, before he considers allowing gale followers to gain his magic... And if romanced, think of all the people tav/his partner will help as a god, this is why i personally think ``Dekarios the divine´´ its his best ending.
The only thing I found disappointing about him becoming a god in my first play through was that he became the god of ambition and not god of a new type of weave/ magic kinda like shars dark weave.
Ambition suits him well, I think. He desires the crown to further his own power, to become what he believes he deserves. Even his relationship with Mystra suited his ambitions. He believed he was in love, probably was, but more so with the very idea that he bedded the goddess of all magic. Let's also keep in mind that Karsus is also considered a God of ambition for much the same reason, believing himself to be deserving of godhood, and as the only entity that can truly right the world. Wouldn't be the first time a God has a sphere that seems strange on the surface. Vecna for example is a lich-god, but his portfolio is Secrets, Lies, and Magic, not Death or Undeath. Same with Evening Glory. She's a goddess of eternal love and beauty, only... she's also depicted as a zombie because she literally represents "eternal love into undeath."
He is technichally a god of a new weave tho right? With the karsite weave like that specific kind of weave is the magic that ascends him to godhood (the crown basically allowed him complete control of it) unless im wrong

So, Gale's story is: - Be good at magic, get with the goddess of magic. - Goddess of magic, having been killed by an ambitious wizard, doesn't want her new man to get power before he's ready to wield it. - Gale thinks opening the evil book will make her change her mind prematurely. - Unwittingly awakens a world-devouring evil. - The evil magic takes *all* of his earned power, he's unaware. - Goddess of magic gives him the boot for awakening the evil. - Gale, unaware of his actions, feels betrayed. - Gale suffers the consequences of his actions. - Mystra starts feeding the evil magic her magic to keep it from killing him. Gale must now blow himself up to earn Mystra's forgiveness. - In God Gale route, Gale takes this personally. Tav doesn't help. - Eventually, Gale sees the Crown of Karsus, and decides that he should have that power. Which is exactly the ambition Mystra was wary of from the start. - Mystra finally tells him everything, Gale threatens to become a god. Can we stop the whole "who's at fault" argument? Gale met her when he was in his 20s and both have been shit at communication. Gale was impatient and thoughtless, Mystra was suffering PTSD from Karsus.
