There is more action coming up this season but it really starts ramping up more in subsequent seasons when they got a bigger budget. Uhtred has a whole crew that is yet to be introduced.

This is such a good show, with great characters, the actress playing Alfred's wife is so funny in real life, her acting is great IMHO. And there's Beocca ❤

Note that the show even had a wrap-up movie (and it's really good). Even though they had plenty of notice to wrap up things at the end of season 4, they still failed to do so very well.

I love the series more as it goes along. At the beginning I was not sure but it gets better. Also it is a pretty emotional show and the music is great.

It didn’t matter what the King wanted he had no right to name a successor Wessex elected their kings. Kings were elected by the Witan Council a kind of Parliament.

Teaching Saxons "how the vikings fight" is like nowadays a builder teaching another builder how to make builder's coffee who's brewed builder's coffee ever since he was a builder...
They fought exactly the same way for hundreds of years by this time. :D What a silly scene.

Yep, not one of the better changes the show made. In the books Alfred uses a similiar promise to get Uhtred's oath, however Uhtred quickly realises that he has nothing to teach the West Saxon warriors and Alfred was just stroking his ego to get his oath, I don't know why the show chose to change it and make the Saxons such pathetic, incompetent fighters until Uhtred shows them how.

Yeah unfortunately it's just the nature of the show, which cuts out a lot of his childhood and can't portray Uhtred's internal monologue, but they can't really build up Uhtred's conflict between English and Dane as well as in the books, which are written in the first person from Uhtred's perspective. In the books we see that he genuinely loves his Danish family and the Danish way of life, however there's part of himself that never truly forgets that he is English and isn't truly comfortable with the Danish takeover of English lands, especially after the Battle of Æsc's Hill, which occurs earlier in the books while Uhtred is still with the Danes and leaves him feeling a lot of pride at Englishmen fighting off Danes and winning. Unfortunately the show was a bit limited in time and format and so a lot of that backstory (including an entire character who plays a major role) has to get cut and Uhtred's turn to the English side feels a lot more abrupt and out of place.
