    I’ve had good luck with Baker Creek seeds in terms of germination rate and overall plant health. I have both Waltham and Lieutenant broccoli varieties that I planted in six-packs first week in September. I save both the plastic flats and six packs for seed starting. I like “Jiffy” brand seed starter mix because it’s ground up and screened very finely. A fine spray of water over top and a sheet of cling film rubber banded on will usually germinate brassicas in 3-5 days depending on the air temperature. Really looking forward to the soil additive you’re looking at. I trust your judgement on growing things and I’m looking forward to your review. I grew the white Kohlrabi from Baker Creek last season and it was excellent. Good germination, fast grower, lots of uniform bulbs.

      Great tip! I love Baker Creek. It definitely wasn't their fault it was mine or the weather. I'll blame it on the weather lol. The soil additive looks pretty good I will definitely let you know! And thank you so much for your kind comments.

      California Garden TV Good call on the weather. We had really cold weather in Feb-March and I had lots of melon seeds that just didn’t germinate in the ice-cold soil.

    What month was this filmed? RUclips just says two years ago . September - November ? I’m zone 9b coastal central coast Ca with first frost estimated within first two weeks of December . I’m starting broccoli and cabbage seeds In mid September but would like to know when to start cauliflower. It’s still warm here so I don’t want to start too earlier. Also, when do you start Chinese cabbage such as Pak Choi and Napa cabbage 🥬Thank you🌱💚

    A canning funnel might help with filling the bags. I have a few tomato questions I am hoping you can help me with. I am in zone 6 in PA. I plant mainly Amish Paste for canning. I have my tomatoes out as soon as possible and as deep as possible. I don't have ripe tomatoes until middle of Sept., no matter what variety I plant. This year I cut all the suckers off. I am getting tomatoes over 1 lb!, but not ripe yet. What can I do to to get ripe maters earlier? I just pulled 70 LBS of green off the plants and boxed them up to ripen. Also, if you miss a sucker and becomes so big that if starts deflecting the original branch, do you remove the original branch? And, do you top your mater plants? Mine get 8' tall. Thank you!!

    • @NextLevelGardening
      @NextLevelGardening  4 года назад +1

      Hey the funnel is a great idea!! Thanks! When do you get the tomatoes in the ground? When do you see the first blooms? II miss a sucker (which I do) and it gets that big, sometimes I let them both grow, or choose the strongest one with the most blooms.

    • @maverick5006
      @maverick5006 4 года назад

      @@NextLevelGardening They're in the ground after last frost, usually late May, first week of June. Amish is an 85 day, but I've also tried 65 day, with same results. I'm not seeing a lot of blossoms until late July to mid August. BTW, one of the reasons I believe your channel is so popular is because you respond to viewers questions and in a timely manner. I wish you continues success and God Bless you and your family.

      That is so funny you would mention that. If you want to know the real truth, my allergies were acting up. The whole time during the video editing all I could hear was my nose whistling when I breathed in. So I found that bird track to help cover it up. But I love the result. Birdsong in the garden IS glorious! The birds around here don't seem to sing much though.
