Thank you, be safe, and be grateful.
What an honor that would be to have something crafted by Cy. That is absolutely beautiful
One of the things I like about CY, is he's old school. He' gets cut but there's no moaning, no TCP, no plasters etc. He gets gets on with it, like a real man.
Thanks to you guys for bringing us Cy. Great work by a great man. I too did a development but mine was in 2008. Instead of walking away with bucks to go farming I spent 15 years whipping a dead horse. It was nice to hear a story where determination worked out. I went farming anyway and it is a damn tuff business when you don’t have the capital. But in Minnesota we get her done anyway we can. You have a great channel and it will be a treasure for those youngsters coming up. Many thanks
Thanks for sharing this. It was funny watching EC walk around looking at every tool happily while Cy worked his craft.
Props to the camera person; they did a great job capturing this. Nice shots, almost like a documentary. And of course thanks to Cy for sharing his art
Four Oak, For me it was a documentary and should by shown in trade schools and preserved for later generations on how this country was built and the type people who did it.
This was most definitely a documentary. Educational and artisnal.
Just wish they would not have sped it up in parts. I could watch him for hours
A grandpa making a rose for his grand daughter. Grand kids will make a tough old man young.
I'm playing LEGO with mine all day tomorrow. It's a tough old world ;-)
I always considered Cy a craftsman. Today I learned he’s an artist.
I could watch and listen to Cy work all day long
Cheers from Tokyo!
I could watch Cy working all day long.
My, Oh My,..what a craftsman Cy is! My dear wife would have loved to have watched this Rose being crafted, she loved her gardens.
Thanks for this video Scott, I really enjoyed watching and listening to Cy. .
That was the most enjoyable 16 minute video i have seen in a long time. Amazing how he was able to heat and hammer some steel to look like a delicate flower. Beautiful work Cy
Ya know... Something I can appreciate is the passing of the knowledge of an aged experienced craftsman. Listening to the stories, absorbing the craft for what it is and could be from the shoulders of a great craftsman and taking in the experience that so few would otherwise get is a gem amongst the dirt in and of itself. Keep it coming. One day hopefully in the distance this chance wont be there for the youth. Immortalize Cy for just a small part of the great man that he is.
The blood is the best part. I know I've said this many times watching him. He is beyond amazing. I could watch him and listen to him for ever. Amazing man and amazing craftsman. He had probably forgot more than i will ever know.
Really enjoyed watching Cy. Too often these days we forget all that these old timers can teach us.
Scott you are a fortunate man to have Cy Swan for a friend. Thank you for sharing him with the rest of us. I enjoy all your videos, but I relish the ones featuring Cy
My daughter started chemo 2 days ago. She is doing well so far. Figured I should keep you posted.
I love watching Cy work, so thank you for posting these videos. The world needs to remember men like him.
That is truly a masterpiece. Better than any museum piece I’ve ever seen. I wish I could be just a quarter as good as Cy.
Quite the craftsman. And quite the artist, too. What a beautiful job. :-)
I wish i could hang out in Cy's shop and listen to him all day. The things he has done and the stories he tells about mundane things are fascinating. He is a treasure.
A little blood for the rose. This was really nice to see.
It's nice to see the previous generations share their knowledge and I think the current generations need to recognize the wealth of knowledge that is out there and probably in their own families.
Wow! What craftsmanship!
Thank you for sharing this with us, E.C.
I like how the hammer blows are so delicate to form something so beautiful and dainty from a lump of metal. Very cool!
Gorgeous. I love this guy. Ancient, wise, tough, funny....bleeding and working through it. More Cy please
Always a pleasure to see a true craftsman in action. Cy is a real treasure.
I love the shot of Cy’s large, rough, bloody hand holding that beautiful flower.
2 years later and without seeing yours, I wrote almost the exact same thing!
Wow.. a lot of literal blood and sweat went into that beautiful flower. The tears will wait till Cy is alone in the shop with memories of his grand-daughter.. Ouch the feels.
Guys like Cy are a treasure. Reminds me a lot of working with my grandfather. The wisdom and values to be learned from those men are priceless.
Thank you for giving honor and respect to Cy and his craftsmanship.
Great job by Cy, please guys film a whole lot more with Cy, it's so very important to save this heritage and skill such as Cy's. We can all learn so much from Smiths such as Cy. Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thank you for doing it.
You're blessed to have someone like Cy in your life. Men like him are a dying breed.
Every time I watch Cy make something, I'm totally focused on his technique and "easy manner" in which he accomplishes his works of art. Thanks for sharing another fantastic video.
Cy is the real deal! We need more men like Cy in our lives.
Wow. That turned out so much better than I thought, and I figured it would be a great looking piece from the get. Smacking a bunch of scrap steel with a hammer and some punches on an anvil or in a vice. Incredible talent this man has. Even though his granddaughter decided she was a girl, many years down the road she will still have that steel rose grandpa forged for her and will invoke fond memories.
Scott, I love your videos. In this one, I love that Cy picked up a little nick on his right wrist and didn't even notice it! Keep on shooting.
Thank you for sharing Cy with us. What an awesome guy!
I don't know about anyone else, but for me, cy's 'order' page has to be the best of any I've seen online. Really felt personal - vs the usual corporate you find online. Literally laughed out loud on number 4. Seriously wish I could afford to order one now just to support.
Mother Nature couldn't have made a better flower! This video was a pleasure to watch.
Cy truly is an inspiration. Thank you so much for sharing his work with the rest of the world.
I could listen to this man for hours and hours! An encyclopedia. thank you 👍👍👍
I really wish there were more videos of Cy than just the few of them. You learn so much about the craft, and he's not even really trying to teach.
So glad that there isn`t a permanent live stream from Cy`s shop... I`d never leave the house... Thanks once again guys for sharing such greatness and particular thanks to Cy for, well, for being Cy.
Thank you very much for sharing this. It was very engaging to watch someone so at home in his element they don't even stop to acknowledge they are bleeding.
My great-grandfather was a blacksmith and had to switch to lawn mower repair at some time in his life. My mother tells the story of how one day, she was outside playing and a lawnmower came flying out of his shop and landed in the street, accompanied with much strong language.
It was difficult for me, at the time, to comprehend how such a gentle man could do such a thing.
And then I bought a house and started to have to maintain it. And understood.
I think my great-grandfather and Cy would have gotten along just fine. Thank you for reminding me of my own connections to this wonderful fading art. I hope your upcoming blacksmithing course helps to keep it alive. I'm already looking for space in my garage.
I like Cy. Thanks for seeing the need to share him with us. I can see why you love him. Good camera work too. Nate, you got talent.
Seeing somebody do work like this truly makes me miss my grandfather, the man could do anything and most all of it was self taught. This guy is just as amazing, a true craftsman. 👍🏻👍🏻
Gday from Australia. It was a delight to watch a true craftsman do his thing. Despite making hundreds of these he put as much care into the task as if it was that very first one for his Grand Daughter.
Thank you so much for introducing us to Cy! he's incredible.
What a treasure this man is, and a lovely rose.
Cy knows his stuff. I could watch him all day.👍
Just amazing. It is sad to think of all the expertise, skill, knowledge and most of all, wisdom embodied in the older generations that is not being recorded and passed on. Thank you Scott and Nate for this video and all that you can get of Cy. Truly a treasure trove.
I learn more from watching the two of you for a few minutes than I do from any other video on here.
Beings a tear to my eye. Thanks for posting. I feel old, I feel young... I feel alive
With the knowledge that the both of you have, there isn't a damn thing in the world you can't craft. Stunning work. Thanks for the video.
Very few craftsmen like Cy anymore. It will be a sad day if this art fades away.
I could watch Cy all day, such craftsmanship.
There's something poetic about turning rough steel into a beautiful rose. I can't help but chuckle imagining when Nate ended the video that Cy would probably be making some remark about becoming softer in his old age.
I took a class up in Oregon City on blacksmithing, I loved it! I ended up taking it 5 times I think just to have access to a shop. I miss doing it very much I have a partly finished propane forge that I need to just finish so I can enjoy the hobby again.
I don't think there is any craft I enjoy more. We have a bunch of fantastic blacksmiths here in the PNW. Keep making the videos! Love to watch them.
There are still some guys giving a thumbs down. How can you not love this type craftsmanship, passion and the entertainment in this video. Cy, keep up the good work.
Could just be accidental thumb placement that results in a thumbs down.
That, or there are "blacksmiths" who think they know everything, and have decided that they are better than Cy
I accidentally 'disliked' an EC video from a lazy mis-tap I later corrected my mistake.
How a Blacksmith can make something so gentle out of something so ruff. That is truly an awesome piece of work.
What an education I got from this, so much skill and time. Before this I didn't know what it took to hand-craft any metal object such as a knife. Now I know why these items are not inexpensive.
Now that is an object of Beauty!
Seeing it made is a privilege .... Thank you (both)
Can never get to these videos fast enough!
Fantastic fun in the shop it seems to me. Forging never gets old... Well, except that time I dropped a sword on my foot at forging temperature.
You are very lucky to have met cy.
Hell Yeah! Blacksmithing! 15min! And with Cy! That's what I'm talking bout!
Don't know what to say, it's simply as beautiful as the real deal. Thank you for sharing video of the work and his story.
I never get tired of watching cy he's just amazing
It’s always good to see Cy working up some steel! Great video as usual !
I could watch him all day too. What a gentle soul. Awesome craftsmanship he does. That was beautiful.
I’ve watched this so many times I’ve lost count of the comments I’ve made Lol 😂 I hope one day to be this good!!! Forge is lit, gonna go make things that are supposed to be flowers or try atleast haha 😂 thank you Cy!!! From the bottom of my heart!! Thank you 🙏👍😊
Forget about all those Mindfulness apps out there. 15 minutes with Cy and I’m chilled.
Cy is a legend! As are you Scott! Thank you for being excellent at what you do!
That is amazing. Thank you both, and the cameraman.
Artistry and craft invested in one very special man. Wonderful to watch.
All i can say is what a gem....The rose and CY.....There is only one CY.....
It's the details that make THE difference. His rose looks like it grew with iron as it's cellular base rather than cellulose. Beautiful work.
Thumbs up before I even hit play. Because, Cy.
This is the best steel rose I have ever seen and the best steel rose video on RUclips I have ever seen! So mad props to Cy Swan for crafting something so beautiful and exquisite out of cold, lifeless steel!!!
Wow. Beautiful. That’s what a little patience, time and a lot of skill will do for you. 👍 Thanks for sharing.
The respect I have for that mans skill and craftsmanship cannot be put into words!
Well done gang! I went to Cys website and loved it. Reading the ordering process, it was like Cy was speaking to me "if your not a jackass" this made my day. Great work!
Love the videos of Cy! So interesting to listen to him talk. What a badass!
Thank you for sharing Cy's work. These craftsman are a dying breed. Reminds me of working with my grandfather.
Man, I love watching that dude work. What a treasure.
Man, I would love to take a class taught by Cy. Love these videos of his craftsmanship.
From cold, hard steel to soft gentle art by the hand of a master craftsman. Beautiful to see.
Thank you, Gentlemen. Much appreciated.
Thank you Cy, Nate and Scott.
More videos of Cy Swan and more stories if he would like to share. Great man and artist. Thank you for these videos.
A demonstration of a master at work! My goal would be to reach a level where I could even make something resembling that fine piece! Its art!
We could learn a lot from a guy like CY....love his stories
I'm envious of y'all's mentor / mentee relationship!
Love this video. The whistling you're hearing from your variable speed drive is the sound of it chopping the waveforms from a.c. to dc so you end up hearing the square waveforms instead of the smooth sine waves. Love your videos, currently sat on my honeymoon watching cy (My wife doesn't mind) keep up the great work!
Hopefully now there will be generations trying to recreate the Cy Swan rose. He makes it look easy. On a side note, I bet he surprises a lot of guys with his hand shake.
Amazing! I would love to see an extended version of this with Cy or a narrator explaining everything that is being done in detail. A sort of “How to” video that you could use to learn how to do exactly what he does in this video. Details such as which hammer to use, how hard to hit the metal, how long to heat it up, what’s in the little shaker canister, etc. With a materials list and tool list. Everything you would need to create that flower yourself in your own shop. Id pay $$ for that.
Simple tools and scrap metal... from the hands and mind of a master comes beauty.
Thank you... the best 16 minutes of my week.
Fantastic, just a pleasure to watch on a rainy day where I wish I could have been outside bleeding on my projects in it instead of inside working all day.
Beautiful work. To bring forth something so delicate from a man tougher than a boot sole is inspiring to me.
What a treasure we have in this man!!!
Just like he made the first flower for his real granddaughter I feel like he is making us another as his honorary Grand sons and daughters. Amazing legacy. This man is a Stradivarius of metal works.
Definitely a passion of love for Cy. Thanks for sharing.
That was a fantastic piece of ironwork, great skill, great camerawork too that enabled us to follow Cy’s every move.
