Interesting ! Every time I've seen Peter it was always direct to amp. I even had the honor of letting him borrow one of my amps when he came up to Connecticut for a concert. He just plugged in and played, not to fussy about equipment it seemed. MY GUESS is that it's some light compression maybe?
Always puzzling seeing comments like this on a jazz recording. The bass is at a very nice natural volume that allows for sensitive ensemble playing. Do you want it to be boomy and overpowering with no dynamic contrast?
RIP Chuck Deardorf. One of the best!!
What a terrific bass player!
Peter plays such great lines!
PETER BERNSTEIN.... wonderful....love the recorded bass sound ...[very natural]......thanks for the post...

my guess would be just a reverb
+ErikH but why would he have a reverb pedal on if he's using a fender amp?

It’s 2024 not 1954. Please turn up the bass player.
