This is a TRAILBLAZER beam routine, amazing that Filatova performed this in 1977 on a wooden beam. Harder than Nadia's 1976 Olympic beam routine, with aerial Front and Back walkovers. Double pike dismount. Forty years later, these are still the harder skills of many top level WAG beam routines!
Only the ladies of the late 70's can make a wobble and correcting it so gracefully. Someone show this to Rebecca Bross and the American team on how to do a wolf turn!
Unfortunately, gymnasts today don’t have the same grace. Back then, the gymnasts were so beautifully pulled up, with lovely expressive arms and hands. Not today, however.
@@veronicafleitas412 The Soviet gymnasts had at least an hour of ballet at the barre back then. I remember seeing a documentary on their training methods and they were all given a strong base in ballet and other dance forms.
After Olga, it seems like they REALLY wanted to push the "little girl" thing in gymnastics, so it seems like many gymnasts wore their hair in pigtails in this era. Several Romanians did and Americans too. Though many did before like Cathy Rigby and Ludmilla Tourischeva. Then it died out...as people didn't want them to be seen as little girls...and when some are too young to begin with why make them look younger! Yang Bo in 1989 is the last gymnast I can think of who is a senior in pigtails!
In the 60s and 70s, from what I have seen (it was before my time so I only know from a few observances), it wasn't just gymnasts wearing pigtails. Teens and young adult women did on tv and in magazines, too.
I do remember about her that she has a July birthday--she turned 15 while in Montreal for the '76 Olympics--so she'd have been closer to 16 here. And wow indeed--I remember watching this competition and thinking that Nadia had her work cut out for her!
Fern Lin-Healy I remember when Terin Humphrey brought them back and I thought it ugly. She always looked like she had a bend in the knee. I was happy it disappeared with her. Now...🙄
She’s breathtaking! She so beautiful pulled up. The hands and arms are so expressive. Unfortunately, this is something lacking in today’s gymnastics.
How amazing was Masha? Definitely one of the unsung heroines of gymnastics;)
Maria Filatova simply wonderful.
She always had a great young beauty.
Surely she still has the great young beauty even at her 62 years old
This is 🔥. Wish there was more of this style in today’s gymnastics
Unbelievably brilliant the first time I saw this I was completely mesmerized lolx 😀❤😀
The young Silivas reminds me of Filatova. She had so much difficulties in this routine.
Never seen a gymnast do a wolf turn so gracefully!

Don't forget the layout step-out! I think she may have been the first to perform it -- I can't recall seeing any layout step-outs before her.
Que narrador tan criticón si lo hizo muy bien! 👏👏

@@mariaellis2882 yes I agree, they even had some ballet lessons back then and you can notice in their beautiful movements, I miss seeing that today

@@mysticalmargaret6105 yes, I have seen it in the documentary you mentioned, “You In Gymnastics”, I never get tired of watching it
This routine would have been competitive ten years later...
Perfection 😀

I`m glad that is over. Little girls should be playing not training

my goodness I though she was 10-12 years old here. In fact, she is 15-16 here depending on the month of this event.Wow:)))

Nice routine,Maria.
I wonder why they got cosmonauts in orbit to do the commentary?
I have no clue🙄😂
🤷♂️
Ah ahah
The most darling gymnast of all time
Если бы не видел своими глазами, не поверил бы, что человек такое может!!!… :-) :-)
She is so cute
I wonder why these poor commentator says Filatova lacks power. Yes I do speaks spanish, and yes he did say that.
They were incorrect.
Yes... Commentator speaks spanish and he says Filatova is very slow on beam and no powerful I don't like the way he comment about her.
Antolín from Spanish TV didn't like Soviet gymnasts. He only liked Comaneci.@@marbellacovarrubias6206Did know nothing about gymnastics.
Back when girls were feminine, and the sport was still real.
She cowboyed her back tuck but still gorgeous routine
Was this the first wolf turn? It was done so beautifully😍
Wolf turns were actually pretty popular in the 1950s and 1960s. Then they fell out of favor and have made an unfortunate resurgence recently.
Fern Lin-Healy I remember when Terin Humphrey brought them back and I thought it ugly. She always looked like she had a bend in the knee. I was happy it disappeared with her. Now...🙄
I wonder how those hairbows are made...
if she looks 9-10 in 77, think how young she looked in the 1976 olympics.
she looked 6!
She is 16
La verdad me encantó no como esa gimnasta de EEUU hace muchas payasadas!
I wish female athletes, actresses and celebrities don't grow old and stay young.
Katelin Oshashi no me gusta hace mucho circo! Y está gimnasta lleva arte!
So I think all these gymnasts should be cheerleaders
Cheer leading is better than gymnastics
rochel mayer no
Hell no! You are big time mad.
rochel mayer you have elegance, precision, strength and be a daredevil to be a gymnast.
