Bruce Xiaoyu Liu said after his final performance of the concerto in Warsaw: -" If you have a passion for something, just do it. Don’t look at others for what they say and think. Follow what you think is good for yourself. On your way you will always encounter failures, problems and negative people, in such moments you have to go further and not give up." This is what brought him to the 18th Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw 4 years later. In the meantime he matured as a pianist and man. This is his time from now on. ❤ 🥂
It's a such outstanding performance!!! He deserves to record the Rhapsodie espagnole, I think is one of the best interpretation in last years!!! I am not surprised we won the 2021 Chopin and maybe we was too understated at this Rubinstein but I haven't listened to the whole competition / finalists.
@David Cotuit DG just announced they are releasing all of Mr. Liu’s live performances from the Chopin Competition. It’s the first time they’re doing this. He’s popular.
After the Chopin competition I got curious how he would play Liszt, now I found out, absolutely amazing, I think pieces of Liszt fit well his style. I hope to see more Liszt pieces from him in the future. :)
How was it possible for this man NOT to win this competition? Not one of the other contestants, from the first to the last, matched his musicality. At no point did the gargantuan demands of the composer disturb his control, or limit his intellectual, emotional and pianistic realization of this piece. It was a Liszt master class, and very few - if any - of the current established pianists could equal it. His mature and philosophical comments, after his unquestioned triumph in Warsaw, revealed the maturity with which he had responded to the astonishing decision of the judges in Tel Aviv. " If you have a passion for something, just do it. Don’t look at others for what they say and think. Follow what you think is good for yourself. On your way you will always encounter failures, problems and negative people, in such moments you have to go further and not give up." A fine performance, especially from such a young musician. It's really great to know that a new generation of young musicians is carrying on the great traditions. As an historical footnote: Do you know why this gentleman and all pianists sit in profile to the audience? This started with Liszt so that he could show off his profile to the ladies in the audience. He was for all practical purposes a 19th century "rock star," and this was part of the performance. Liszt was also a virtuoso performer and a great composer, so it wasn't all just for show.
This guy is just phenomenal! Never a harsh sound even at full volume, superb control, wonderful lyricism, poetry . . . his playing brings tears to my eyes. He HAS to win. If he doesn't I'll eat my hat.

Actually, Nehring played a stellar Rach 3. I’ve never heard him play so well. You should listen to it. But Bruce was still better, and should have won.
I dont what the judges were hearing. Any way the Rubinstein. Competition has lower importance than chopin competition and Bruce won the major piano competition of all Beethoven competition was won by Alexander glettenberg and nobody is talking about him liszt competition was won by Alexander ullman and i don't see people taking about him ,chopin competition is so powerful that Even a third prize winner becomes mucho more known as a pianista than first prizer winners other piano competitions this competition was won by szymon nehrinhg who barely could reach third stage in chopin competition eventhiugh he's also a very good pianist
All I can say is- WOW! I think perhaps that could have been Franz liszt sitting there playing this composition. It has to be an all time difficult composition for any pianist. At that present of Liszt it was known Liszt wrote compositions that no other pianist could play! This had to be one of them!

He rushed the most climactic parts of the song and made them quite anti-climactic and disappointing. There were clear flaws that kept him from winning top prize. They are very easy dynamic fixes though. It just wasn't a performance that did the piece justice. He has it in him to do the piece justice though, that I definitely believe!
