Just listened 4 hrs after posting, Simon. Having followed your podcasts and read your book the interview was doubly interesting. My dad was a biochemist (LDH mechanistic research and I ‘followed’ (in a sense as you did of a sort) as an MD in internal medicine. A very refreshing dissemination of your dad’s expertise and wisdom. Thanks.
Congratulations my dad 86 is dying liver cancer, few days now, I don't recognise him, but he gave me a hug said family is every thing. Lovely to hear you speak together warmly fondly respectfully. Your work is so important to help educate us about health. Thankyou.
Such a sweet conversation. Thank you Simon for sharing something so personal. A few years ago my husband was having a stressful time, he had been raised on a meat and fat heavy diet and out of nowhere at the airport he suffered a severe migraine and instant blurred vision. His eyesight has never been the same and apparently it was a blood vessel in his eye. I can’t remember what it is called but it has greatly affected his life ever since. We now eat mostly WFPB . We often think about heart problems but there are so many parts of the body that can become damaged and without warning. If you are reading this, take care of your health 💚🌿🌱
@@elizabethmadness5277 Was he also eating a lot of junk foods and desserts. I think both ends of the diet choices (Carnivore to Vegan) are both healthier for what they DON’T include. I’ve chosen a no sugar, grains, or seed oils approach, myself. I eat plenty of animal protein in the form of whole, real food. Including lots of fruits, greens and mostly non-starchy vegetables, though I do eats beans, nuts, and seeds too. No need for supplements on that diet.
omg ..so cute . i got a little teary listening to you interview your dad. also .. my absolute #1 topic of interest .. micro vascular system, all my questions answered. I've always known AS in micro vascular responsible for a huge number of issues .. didn't realize that size of red blood cell less than capillary size and how diabetes affects RBC squeezing .. fascinating.
One of your top ten interviews and you've had many great interviews. I learned so much while being completely engaged. Thank you to both you and your Dad.
I could listen to hours of your dad talking about the nuances and biology of our vascular system. You should do a whole series and have him elucidate all angles of vascular health.
Thank you for this delightful and informative chat with your father. Was a pleasure to listen and learn. Your podcast is one of my two favorites (Andrew Huberman’s is the other). Thank you for all you do. Special thanks for addressing women’s health so thoroughly and with such interest. You’re a gift!
What a great human being... both of you! Fascinating research he's done. And such a wonderful conversation between a father and son. Thank you, Simon ~ Marian
That was very interesting and nice to see the relationship between you and your father. It helps to understand your motivation and focus on what you do. If I'm honest though I found ita little hard to remain focused for an ADHD person like me. First thing if you could sum all of that up in another video, that would be really helpful with all the important points. Also can you move back to Australia or somewhere where there's no risk of catastrophic earthquakes 😅 The world needs you and those in your cohort.
I love how these so called experts can’t just come out and say it. You can tell who’s making money off the backs of suffering people. They can’t just spit the truth like it is. The problem with rotten arteries isn’t lifestyle or age. The huge glaring problem that no one wants to talk about is fat in the diet. It’s simple. Fat settles in the middle layer of the arteries. White blood cells get into this layer and eat the fat because it’s not supposed to be there. Then they spew out this white foamy stuff that erupts through the medial layer and into the blood stream like a volcano. Red blood cells try to cover this up, creating a plaque, narrowing the arteries. It’s basically a pimple, but coming from the inside layer of the artery. Oils get pushed out of the pores and as the oils become trapped and gummed up, bacteria come along to eat the fatty residue. This further clogs the pore in the skin and it turns into a pimple. Dietary fat does the same thing inside our arteries. This is the biggest problem in western disease. One problem leads to the next. No need to complicate things. Dr Peter Rogers explains this far better than I, it’d be great to see Dr Rogers on this podcast.
Gees! I thought simon’s dad had died of his heart attack. I’ve never heard Simon talk about his dad again. Glad he’s still alive. Or is that his grandfather?
@@TheProofWithSimonHill Yeah, I got that as I continued to listen. I thought I read a few years ago that plant sterols used by red blood cells made them less deformable. Considering that Simon is plant-based, I wanted his father to continue with how that might impact risk of stroke or heart attack. Maybe they did? I haven’t listened to the end yet.
Your emailing billed this as *"Join me in Episode **#319** as I sit down with a very special guest: my dad, Professor Michael Hill, PhD. In this bite-sized episode, I cover:..."* . So, an hour and 45 minutes is "bite sized"?!

Two beautiful people thank you for such an informative video. I lost my mum when I was only 26 yrs old to diabetes so I was especially interested in this video. You explained a lot.
The depth in how both of you explains things are fascinating and captures the interest of anyone. I love the angel in which you take understanding something to the point and leave enough to go even further. What a joy to the person that’s listening. Thank you , love to listen to this several times as it has many facets to where it travels. 🙏🏿
Thats a dad who’s wearing his paternal and professional admiration on his face. Privileged to be witness ❤
Glad you enjoyed it! Had to twist his arm
to come on. Not one for limelight!
