    So much fun watching you guys having a blast. Just checking out the latest 2017 vids of mostly the same crew, and going back viewing a few in earlier years. Cool to see there are still some Scorpions out there getting used!

      This M38 was driven by Soni Honneger who was one of the very first rock crawling competition competitors and a great fabricator. Unfortunately he blew his ARBs earlier in the day so he did the best with what he had.

      This is a one-off custom vehicle based on a Hummer called a Sorpion. It was driven by Soni Honneger's son, Soni was driving his M38 that day. Soni was one of the very first rock crawling competition competitors and a great fabricator.

    Would not climb those rocks without a roll bar, during WWII a lot of fatalities occurred with original Willys Jeeps due to roll over, the stats are horrific. This could have been prevented if the War Dept. would have instilled a roll bar requirement in the original design.

    • @Jarod1941
      @Jarod1941 8 лет назад +2

      If you put a rollbar in a Willys, it would be sacrilege. They didn't come equipped with one and therefore don't belong on a flat fender.

      BionicForester19 I've seen a Willys in Moab rollover, and it had a roll bar. Not installing one because you want to capture a look is putting safety second to style. When someone rolls over and dies, u can explain to the wife how a roll bar doesn't look right on a Willys. I'm sure she will be greatly comforted and happy that u promote such ideology

      Preaching to the choir dude. I ride Wranglers with full roll cages and harnesses.
      All my comment above does is say what the general belief of most flat fender drivers think.

    • @moabman6803
      @moabman6803 7 лет назад +2

      BionicForester19 oh OK. I thought u had a flat fender and refused to but a rollbar on it or something. I get perturbed when I see people that are so careless. It's really easy to roll in Moab as u probably know. Anyway have a nice day.

      It's nice to see flat fender owners getting smarter. On recent trips to Moab etc, I'm seeing a lot of minimalist but structurally strong caging going on. They follow the lines of the MB-18's and CJ 2's soft top rails. Pretty cool.
      👍

      I wish I knew. The owner used to have a web site but haven't seen it for awhile. Look for Sonny Henneger, (I think that's how you spell his name)

    The two guys running the largest tires appear to have the hardest time overcoming that obstacle. Is it drive error, taking a harder line, or perhaps not as effective?

    • @madbrit
      @madbrit  3 года назад +1

      The stock flat fenders were taking a different line than the vehicles with larger tires. Soni's Flatfender blew his ARB lockers so struggled up the high ledge. The last vehicle was a Scorpion and had no trouble. It really depends on the obstacle and driver. The lightweight stock flat fenders do extremely well and when equipped with a locker are fantastic and show the mega Dollar buggies a thin or two.

    Am I supposed to believe the vehicle featured in the last minute of this video is based on a flatfender Jeep? If so, is it one of a kind? Or is there a kit for making copies?

    Does Motortrend's ultimate adventure jeep count? It's an all aftermarket build with an aluminum CJ7 body. Also, what is that thing at 3:19?

    • @atypical6487
      @atypical6487 8 лет назад +1

      Its called a scorpion.

    • @Jarod1941
      @Jarod1941 8 лет назад

      It most certainly does count. It IS a Jeep. As mentioned, it's a CJ-7. Aftermarket components or not, it's still a Jeep. And built by Fred William's to boot.
      The other hunk of weird metal is a highly modded Humvee. I don't know the specs but a lot has been done to it (such as the S.A.S.).
      We Jeepers don't discriminate. Make a 4x4 Ford Pinto and come along for a ride with us

    • @atypical6487
      @atypical6487 8 лет назад

      +Secured Circus I believe it is titled as a mid 70s CJ jeep. but it is not in anyway like a hmmwv.
      I cant tell what generation chassis it is, but it is a undoubtedly a Scorpion.
      There is some serious engineering going on there that is not apparent. Most notably the diagonal forced articulation of the axles (front left goes up, rear right is forced down).

    • @Jarod1941
      @Jarod1941 8 лет назад

      +Del Mcmillen
      "diagonal forced articulation"???
      That would be called articulation. Simple. No fancy terms. Simple fr & rr solid axle articulation. Nothing special or fancy. Come along for a ride with me and watch it happen to my Jeep's axles. It's sign of a well working suspension system. The rear follows the front but in reverse.
      Too many IFS Humvee's stuck in your head.

    • @atypical6487
      @atypical6487 7 лет назад +2

      In the intrest of dispelling any misinformation...
      The "hmmwv like" vehicle in this video is a varaint of the scorpion chasis probably a scorpion mk2.
      It is in no way shape or form a hmmwv based asside from the obvious aesthetics of the thing.
      allot more going on there than some mods. It is a fully custom vehicle.
      google it.

    so many haters on the flat fenders, 99% of all these Jeep "Roll bars" will collapse and kill you anyways you backyard fabbers never learn.. Even the FACTORY jeep one will crush completely.
