Just learned the story behind the song. Budd's story has always made me feel unexpectedly sad, much like the guy who stole an airplane and crashed it after one daring flight to fulfill a life's dream.
These kind of stories always get me, because these were decent folks, just trying to get on in life, but life dealt them a raw hand and put them in a position where they thought they had nothing left to lose. When everything you invested your whole being in crumbles around you, what choice do you have but to build a tank and destroy the town?
You do have choices, though. Guys, I know it's hard sometimes, to see your goals, your investments just evaporate, but it is seriously not the end of the world. It is frustrating and depressing and the thought of compromising yourself, or trying something different feels like a dead thing in your mouth when you think of it. But it's your life. You get one chance at it. But that chance doesn't end until you take your last breath. I've watched men drink their lives away, pulling themselves out of the mire in time to enjoy a handful of sober years. Homeless men who get their lives together just to die in a car crash. The point is, your life doesn't have to end just because things aren't going your way. Keep fighting. Keep struggling.
Stories like Tedd's can serve as a wakeup call to us all. Don't give up. Don't surrender yourself to your depression and hopelessness. If you ever feel like you're better off not existing, I'm begging you, please find help. It doesn't need to be a big production, with psychiatrists and therapy, but it needs to be more than just you. Call a friend, a pastor, a parent, or a spouse. As hard as it is to tell someone, it is a thousand times harder to carry your burden by yourself. Anyone who loves you will be happy to help you carry it. Don't let yourself become a meme or a hit song for all the wrong reasons. Become something better.
    Take care of yourself.

Budd Dwyer's story is a grotesque mix of governmental corruption (both political parties murdered his public image, and the judge was on a witch hunt), media corruption (for wanting to make an example of Budd to dredge up ratings and make political hay), and corporate corruption (the insurance companies making death more profitable than life).

Somehow puts myself in mind of Shakespeare who wrote; A coward dies a thousand deaths, but the valiant taste of death but once.
Much evil intent has transpired thru the ages & few & far between emerged priceless a rarity who are found bold enough, those who stood against such calamitous forces of maelstrom effects of corruption. Troublesome suffering extolled the descent fathomless & nearly unable to rise above & such radiant examples humanity amongst us, seeming overswept in the tides of time disappearing beneath the waves an onslaught of injustices, sinking before our eyes distraught with anguish. In outcome silenced, to make appearances the villainous won overall & now dare to despair all the earth.
Somehow me thinks at the end of time for each of us comes perilously close a door fraught unexpectedly & unanticipated a threshold appearing & beyond such a fateful portal lies a crossing & those burdened the crimes of the ages cannot withstand nor pass, weighted injustices that cling mercilessly to themselves, the same un-sparingly hold inseparable clamp upon, as were these ruthless in Life are thrust now before pitiless forces & fallen into the void, erased irrevocably what's reprehensible. However to those innocents since time began The Way is carried over being free & unencumbered...light, as a feather to beyond where silver-shone shores especially aligned a reception coming into view & precious joy felt the laughter heard & singing a welcome in loving frequency without reproach come join in Eternity's song evermore.
This is my expectant hope, there is meaning in every iota of conscious expression. A beacon that shines within my soul that Justice will be upheld & shall be fulfilled.

@@WeatherWeasel66 My opinion is a large part life can appear to be random. I too have felt at despairing times the chaos invoked over myself in that no rhyme nor reason seeming exist or larger purposes involved, but I instinctively know myself to be wrong or in full error of culmination of Life overall. In error my humanly predictions fall wayside the granduer witnessed, only by the insistent fact I do not know all things nor what ends are transpiring, as yet to be revealed. Phenomena in its own right stands rather exist distinctly apart from my puny, mortal opinions.
The fault is in my own humanly limited proportion, in respect to inabilities to percieve what is greater than myself. We cannot fathom the depths from which nor comprehend the heights in the fullest expression. I know somehow there is more than the lateral view espoused, a side by side junction alone that constitutes all Truth concerning Life. That Life contains a vertical view which in limitless lengths is oft beyond our reach in mortal capacity. I know more exist because hope springs alive once more with every encounter with the unknown, how mistrust is severed from the equation. We can only partially attribute towards in reduced calculation, because of what has not been discovered, due to the fact we, as human do not know all there is to know nor can we in our limited expanse pronounce accurately all there is.
So, unfortunately ( or fortunately depending) it's on us lacking the scope & span necessary to gain an advantage & Life will always appear, not possesing a thousand foot viewing, instead crept from a mortal angle of perspectives to ourselves with such limitations in space & distance plus time inset to be random. However I fear there are far greater purposes at work that we know at present.. conscious forces moving by that which comprehends, in distinguishs much more than ourselves & perhaps some Glorious day we will know & understand fully the reasons why.
Just an undying hope I hold onto. Enlivening an Eternal torch that burns brighter inside, still gleaming radiance though the outside maybe darkly made desperate, knowing there is vastly more to this world than we can naturally suspect or even guess at.

Funny story how I got into these guys. A while ago in Middle School, I was doing a report on the effects of 9/11 on media and information. I wound up on a Wikipedia article listing all songs that were banned from certain stations for months after the attack due to possibly provocative subject matter blah blah etc. In any case, I saw the song title on the list and thought, "Now that sounds fuckin' cooool" And hey man, I was right.
