Mara didn't resurrect Uldren. This was done by Traveler. In short, Ghosts are small Light transmitters that were created by Traveler. They also allow the Guardian to restore health and resurrect them. And they are looking for bodies in order to resurrect them. This is called the birth of the Guardian. At the same time, the resurrected Guardians do not remember their past life, so it is no longer Uldren, but Crow. In fact, this is already another character of the game.
@@ToxicVex267 Guardians waking up for the first time remember nothing. Ana knew who she was because she was wearing her lab coat with the name tag on it.
There is a theory where it says "Due to Mara wishing Uldren's resurrection to Riven, Uldren was revived by the Traveler."(Mara would have wanted her brother back but Crow is a whole different person, classic Ahamkara)
For a little clarification at 1:35:30, Banshee has been reset 43 times and has difficulty remembering things and iirc exos have memory issues the more times they've been reset.
Banshee is also a special case because he modified himself on his 43rd reset to intentionally forget certain things. It's just that Cayde was actually deeply involved with one of those particular things.
I just wish we could’ve said something to cayde in his final moments. We can’t console our dying mentor/friend but we sure can swear vengeance 10 minutes afterwards lol. But I really do love the “speechless… typical” line
Back then it meant alot as it hasn’t happened yet. It started to lose its meaning when your character starts to speak more. Either way the fact the first time was just to say uldren is fucked hit hard
Just so you know when Guardians are first resurrected they have no memories of their previous life. So for all intents and purposes they aren’t the same person anymore. So that isn’t Uldren anymore and that plays a major part in his character going forward.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames let me just say it really was a rollercoaster of emotions for me since his resurrection, going from still hating him to accepting him as a new person and really liking him back to disliking him again but for completely different reasons, back to finding him "ok" as a character. Im really looking forward on your opinions on him in the stories to come
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Crow has mostly become a fan favorite character these days. Granted he won't be back until the Beyond Light seasonal content. Also keep in mind that these videos are only some of the in-game lore. There are radio messages and text based lore tabs that have even more story in them.
Toland, the "will-o-the-wisp" in the dreaming city, was the warlock who betrayed eris morn's team and had his soul blasted out by the deathsong. Now he's a little spirit you sometimes run into in the ascendant plane. Additionally, you may already know this but from here on the watch order starts to get a little more complicated, with the short seasonal mini-stories in between yearly campaigns. Before shadowkeep, the next major campaign, there's three of them: season of the forge, season of the drifter, and season of opulence.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I think after you two are all caught up, you should listen to My name is Byf(aka lore daddy) He has two amazing videos that are a must. The complete story of Destiny is one of them, and Dynasty if I remember that right. There both amazing. I recommend starting with Dynasty.
1:19:27 This was such an "OH F***!" moment that flew completely under the radar the first time I heard it. But hearing the words "Oh brother mine" was a subtle hint at what Riven is. In a lot of the previous lore and flavor texts involving Ahamkara, there was often some mention of the "oh ___ mine" phrase, so it was a great hint for those who were really paying attention and VERY well learned on their lore.
Back then we knew almost nothing about ahamkaras so this did just fly under the radar. Most we really knew was they were wish dragons that were hunted to extinction as they were too dangerous as they would manipulate there wishes to have something to always benefit the ahamkara and fuck over the one who made the wish. Her reveal was perfect. We heard her voice through the entire campaign and raid. Then when we reach her prison it just says “defeat riven” or something. We’re left to be dropped into her pit with no knowledge of what we were actually going into fight.
1:35:23 - fun fact about Exos, the number by their name is related to the number of times they havevbeen reset and had their memories wiped.. Cayde-6 , reset 6 times (though Cayde did have a system regarding keeping his own memories). Banshee-44... well yeah. Being reset 44 times can really do a number on you. Among other things.
A quick fun fact, we found out that Crow, Uldren's resurrected self is not fond of the sound of hand cannons and doesn't know why. In the cutscene where Uldren dies, only the Guardian has a Hand Cannon. Petra has a sidearm. So, the chances are we were the one who shot him.
Okay, even I didn't know that thanks for the fun fact. Dam I mostly use hand canons cause I love to be a space cowboy and I'm in a committed relationship with lucky pants. But all this time I was giving this man ptsd. 😂
@@ToxicVex267 Yeahhh, I remember looking at the bounty in Season of the Hunt (Winnowing by Hand Cannon iirc) and thinking, "oh shit we actually did do it." Hunters FTW tho!
Maybe we did kill him but they cut it to a black screen to leave it up to the player. We hear both the sidearm and the ace shoot so it’s left unknown who pulled the trigger. I do wish they made it so it gave us the option like “kill uldren” and “spare uldren” and if you chose kill well you get to take the shot if you chose to spare Petra would look at you then she’d finish him off.
Fun trivia: Nolan North (VA of our Ghost) took over Cayde’s role from Nathan Fillion for Forsaken, and a lot of people didn’t realize that initially because of his solid impression. There’s also dialogue from other characters reacting to Cayde’s death, including a new one named Drifter that you’ll learn of really soon.
Another fun fact, there was a mission that the Drifter was supposed to narrate, but his VO was ill so they rewrote it for our ghost. Nolan did an impression of Drifter that was so spot on they had to instruct him to intentionally make it worse.
The friendship between Cayde and Ikora was beautiful. Also, Uldren was revived by a Ghost, not Mara. She has no idea he has been revived. Ultimately it was the Traveller that revived him. Mara would probably be outraged finding out he was a guardian now. Also, he will have no memories of what he did.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Yeah, a lot of in-game characters had the same problem (hating him) and this guy who has the face of a murderer died over and over without knowing why everyone hated him. He eventually learns why and starts wearing a mask just so he can continue to help people. Most of this is not actually covered in custscenes or memorable dialogue so if you do pick up on later videos you should bear this in mind if he pops up.
1:35:24 this guy has been reset 44 time. Human brain can only handle 8 or something before robot dementia kicks in. For example cayde was reset 6 times, but he was reborn a guardian the 6th time so his brain is “new” and good. So he will probably go on thinking cayde his good friend is alive since the “disease” won’t kill him since he’s a robot This expansion delves deep into the lore many times in this video but u guys wouldn’t get the references (dw u shouldn’t and stuff gets more clear over time when seasons explain lore stuff better) expansions tell bigger stories while seasons delve into the lore here on out.
If you want to follow what happens to Uldren, check out the story of Season of the Hunt, Season of the Chosen, Season of the Haunted, and Season of Defiance for the lore regarding him.
The late Lance Reddick has been revealed to have been recasted. Bungie has hired Keith David to be Zavala's new voice in the future, and the fanbase have made their peace; none of us want Zavala to die, and Keith has expressed his desire to carry Reddick's flame.
A note about "Uldren's" resurrection - Guardians lose all memories of their previous lives when they're first brought back by a Ghost. Uldren Sov died, and the person wearing his face now has none of his memories, none of those prior connections. A lot of what made Uldren so twisted was literally thousands of years of neglect, manipulation and a need for validation from the one person in his life that mattered. The person that was brought back in his place has none of that. They're a blank slate, impressionable at that, an entirely different person who did not do the things Uldren had done. For further context, since the video you watched doesn't provide the additional lore; we lost in Forsaken. Uldren was manipulated into killing Cayde by Riven, knowing we'd come after him and seek answers in the Dreaming City. The entire thing was a convoluted trap intended to make us kill her, and she fed on that wish for her death to fulfill the desire of another individual in Taking the Dreaming City. The next several "years" in these videos are going to be a wild ride. Trust nothing you see or hear at first glance. Her name was dropped back in the Red War and again in lore tabs released with Forsaken, so I don't consider it a spoiler - all of this happened because Savathun, the Hive Witch Queen and God of Cunning wanted it to happen. There's a third player at the table now besides the player and the Vanguard.
Im sure you figured it out but throughout The Last Wish raid, Riven speaks to you in the voices of all your friends and enemies. It’s random too, so the voices change every time in. Zavala, Ikora, Cayde, even Uldren can speak to you throughout the raid.
This story hit like a truck. This is probably also the time for you guys to watch the seasonal stories, because they actually add to the story and fill in gaps. From this point forward they become really important, especially season of arrivals and the hunt. They actually have cutscenes beautiful stories and are a massive part of the story. Also this expansion was the first time the guardian (player) spoke in this game, so that also caught everyone off guard.
Riven is a ahamkara, their dragons that could grant wishes, they are extremely powerful and even in death they can’t truly die. Which is why we continue to hear Rivens voice after she has been killed. For example that green orb that Eris has contains the bone of an ahamkara and still has power within it. The ahamkara were extremely dangerous and were hunted to extinction, except Riven who was locked up by Mara Sov. The mission with the dead guardian has a great story. The one who killed Callum is Shin Malphur. He’s a legendary guardian and the one that Cayde was talking about when he said “my money is on the man with the golden gun.” Shin once fought defeated on of the most evil guardians there ever was, Dredgen Yor. My Name is BYF has a video one that story called “The last word and Thorn. The complete story” it’s great video if you want to learn more about it. The story of Shin and Dredgen is arguably the best lore story in all of Destiny.
Was waiting for this one, Forsaken is fantastic. So much happens in and around it and so much is affected by it going forward. Its just a much more personal story for all our characters and yet also expands the world a ton. Also idk if the playlist you guys are watching has it broken up like this, but after Forsaken Destiny started doing seasons. They're like mini expansions inbetween the big ones, and some of them have a LOT of story in them, since thats what you're here for. If the list you guys have starts going into stuff like season of the drifter, the forge, opulence then its got everything. If not heres a short list of them Forsaken > Season of the drifter > Season of the forge > Season of opulence > Shadowkeep > Undying > Dawn > Worthy > Arrivals > Beyond light. Theres more but wont write out everything cause it'd be crazy long
I hope they react to multiple seasons other than just one each video cause if so it’s gonna be a looong time before shadowkeep were stuff starts ramping up.
This DLC brought the destiny community together I remember comment after comment of the most heinous and disturbing things people said they were going do to uldren when the first trailer dropped😂 My favorite one was Let's Give Him a Ghost and Drop him off at Mayhem in the Crucible and the team that kills him the most wins.
SPOILERS Crow =/= Uldren. I just wish people got that sooner. Crow was basically a newborn who couldn’t show his face, otherwise people would beat the shit out of him for something he didn’t remember. It’s all well and good to say “our past lives don’t matter”, but what happens when your past life’s actions made people hate you for existing.
Spoilers Yeah I felt bad crow suffered cause of something his past self did and worse he had no idea why till a certain hive showed him his past actions but I’m glad he’s risen above his past and doing his best to make up for it. I’m also really interested to see how they’ll react to crow and his story and development. Took me a lot to see past uldrens deeds and see crow as his own person. Also if they don’t trust Mara I can’t wait to they meet Savathun ho boy atleast Mara has a clear goal Savathun you don’t know what she’s up to till it’s too late or till she wants you to know.
I actually REALLY love the story of Forsaken more than most people already do. It's the way the entire story arc is kind of a morality litmus test. The way the fight with Fikrul actually turns your revenge directly on you, as (with more context than provided in the summary video) you'd find out that the Fanatic and all of the Barons were just abused dregs, the mistreated nothings who were outcast by the Fallen and only had each other, and through circumstances (they thought it was Uldren, but really it was Riven) they were saved from death and granted new powers and purpose, and in trying to repay their savior, their whole little found-family is murdered until only Fikrul remains, and he RAGES against you in the exact same way you rage against Uldren for the loss of Cayde. It confronts the nature of duty and sacrifice, when the whole purpose of being a guardian is that you sacrifice yourself for the safety of others, yet when you go to pursue vengeance for Cayde, you are potentially forsaking the safety of everyone to appease your own selfish emotions, but then THAT flips because pursuing Uldren potentially prevents a disaster that would have been even worse, so what you did is still the right thing, "The right side of wrong", and the only factor that determines which side you're on is your motivations for going through with it. Btw, at the end when Uldren is killed, the sound effect is that of the Vestian Dynasty, Petra's gun, not The Ace of Spades, meaning you can interpret for your own character whether you pulled the trigger too or not. It's just all around an underrated story arc, even being one of the most highly rated, and really shows the thin line that differentiates the grizzled hero from the self-righteous villain.
I’ll never forget watching the game awards with my friends and seeing the reveal for this dlc. Shock isn’t a strong enough word to express how we all felt. This expansion took everything that’s amazing about vengeance stories and spun it the best way possible. I’ll forever love this expansion, and hopefully you guys take a look at the promotion material for the final shape. Well worth a look. Love the vid!
To explain Banshee-44 at the end of the Caydes will thing, every time a standard exo dies they can potentially be restarted with the number representing the number of restarts, so Banshee 44 has been rebooted 44 times and is on his 45 life, the only thing is after restarting the exo is irreparably damaged, in this case, his memory core so he doesn't remember Cayde being murdered.
1:35:28 The confusion their is pretty sad, Banshee is the equivalent of an old man with Dementia as his mind as been reset about 44 times (the number in an exo's name is how many times their mind as been reset to keep the exo from going insane) So him asking where Cayde is, is him forgetting Cayde died and asking If he's around.
Yeah, I work in a resident care facility with a lot of the time being on floors with people with really bad dementia and it is so fucked. Banshee's dementia is the dementia the most people get to see via media, but his level of dementia is not as severe as some I've seen. There are people who are physically unable to perceive reality at all and are permanently stuck in their warped reality. It is so sad to watch. Doesn't matter who you were before, dementia can change your personality.
About Banshee-44....he's been reset so many times he's a little...forgetful? Think of it as a version of robotic Alzheimer's. So when he says "Have you seen Cayde around lately" he...uh....he forgot, I'm afraid.
I know at the time when this DLC dropped, I was pissed at Zavala for not wanting to take action. Only now do I understand why. He gets some crazy development later after this point that really endeared me to him more
Caydes gun is named after his son and he doesn’t remember anything about his son other than his name which is why he named his gun that. So “I’m coming home ace means he knew he will be reunited with his son”.
Mara was not involved in Uldrins' resurrection. The ghosts' are completely autonomous so the ghost, and only the ghost, made that choice. But also remember guardians are reborn with no memory, so Uldrin won't even remember what he did in the first place.
A small detail I always loved is that cutscene of 22:55 of Uldren addressing his Barons, the track playing is The Shadow Thief which is a strike boss theme for Taniks the Scarred who murdered the Hunter Vanguard before Cayde, Andal Brask. The way the music in Destiny connects the world, the story, and the characters all together is undoubtedly my favorite part of this franchise.
Happy to see we got a little bit of the raid as well, they’re often used as the last bit of story content for the expansion. After this is the start of the seasonal content alongside the expansions.
One important note, for the Mara Sov audience scenes at the end, between each of those scenes, 3 weeks passed in real time. The curse of the dreaming city made it so players could do weekly missions every week, with them resetting every time after the third week. So these audiences only were possible on week 3 and its understandable ghost was upset at Mara for leaving for over 2 months of basically real-time
Just a heads up. Mara does not command Ghosts. She despises the Traveller, so she's above using them anyway. When someone is revived by Ghosts, they are chosen directly by the Traveller. Only the Traveller can choose who wields the Light (as we learned from Ghaul 😉) so ya can blame the Traveller for Uldren being revived lol. Also keep in mind that very Guardian who's revived do not remember their past, not Zavalla, not Ikora, not even you. Special cases like Ana Bray only remember cuz they revived with something on them that can help them identify themselves, like a diary or an ID. So Uldren do not remembers anything after his revived. He's essentially a blank slate lol. Keep these in mind for the seasonal story reactions.

Imagine that he did all this for his sister, and in the end what he saw was certainly an illusion created by his imagination out of his intense longing for his sister.
I love how Bungie has described these major story moments. They described Destiny 1 as our Age of Light, the Red War to Shadowkeep as our Age of Loss (mainly regarding our powers, Cayde, and our innocence), and currently we are in our Age of Dark. I can't wait for you guys to continue down this path and for all of us who have been on this path for the past 10 years, we can't wait to see how it ends
Fun fact about that first moment when cayde looked at his gun, when he said “im coming home ace” he not only named his gun ace, but ace is also the name of his son.
It's finally here.. Fun Fact: Cayde was voiced by Nolan North here (same voice actor for Ghost) instead of the original Cayde VA Nathan Fillion who had parted ways with Bungie before the development of this expansion. Could you tell the difference? Nolan did pretty well huh? In regard to what they are doing with the Zavala character going forward with unfortunate passing of Lance, the legendary voice actor Keith David (voices The Arbiter from Halo, Captain Anderson from Mass Effect, as well as several other characters from many games) will be continuing the role. IMO couldn't find a better replacement than him. So the Zavala character is in great hands and will continue on! Keep in mind, Forsaken is several years old, there's plenty more Lance Zavala you have yet to see! And no.. Mara has nothing to do with 'Uldren' being resurrected. Ghosts were created by the Traveler, and ghosts can't just resurrect anyone they want they have to find a specific person, it took our ghost a long time to find us. Therefor it's the Traveler's will. This will come more apparent as you continue this journey.
Guardians are chosen by the traveler for somewhat unknown reasons. What seems to be a requirement is a reason the traveler may value you. Those who in life were Warriors/Fighters and Scientists seemed to be consistently chosen. They forget their previous lives but still have their capabilities. Uldren was one of the Awoken's best fighters. Like top 5 (Honestly, would have loved a boss fight with him, but he got eaten). So the traveler has chosen him.
Cayde's death bought the whole community together in vengeance. Banshee 44 is very forgetful that why he got confused about Cayde. When a ghost resurrect you, you are no longer the person you was. Uldren is dead, the Crow is alive
I remember the comment section for the first trailer was filled with guardians coming up with heinous and grotesque ways they were gonna make uldren suffer for killing cayde.
Ah, the good old emotional damage that Forsaken brought. How I've missed it. Loved your reactions! Excuse me while I just do a massive lore dump, because I absolutely love this expansion: 1. A long time ago, Mara stumbled upon Riven, an Ahamkara, which is a wish dragon. These Ahamkara granted wishes wherever they could, though those wishes were often twisted, or included some sort of consequence. Mara created the Wish Wall, allowing her to safely make wishes to Riven without suffering any twists or consequences herself. However, Riven was more cunning than Mara thought. Mara wished to have an advantage over everyone in the universe, and Riven heard that wish without Mara's knowledge. Riven fulfilled that wish by causing an event called "The Great Hunt", in which the Vanguard ordered the death of all Ahamkara due to their power, and all Ahamkara were slain, apart from Riven, who was safely hidden in the Dreaming City, locked in the Watchtower. This made Riven the one advantage Mara asked for. 2. Ahamkara often address people with the phrase "Oh, ____ Mine", and it is almost entirely unique to them. It is why, at the end of the Last Wish raid, where we slay Riven, Riven addresses us as "Oh, Murderer Mine". She was also the one manipulating Uldren, seeing as the Mara illusion Uldren was seeing and hearing called Uldren "Oh, Brother Mine". 3. Something that wasn't shown was a mechanic during the Riven fight in the Last Wish raid, which was that you need to shoot the correct eyes on Riven. By destroying those eyes, they glow for a second before Riven leaves. That glow indicates that a wish was made. By destroying her eyes, we, the players, are wishing to Riven for Riven's death. Because we are Guardians, and wield paracausal abilities, our wishes are much more powerful, and because of that, we were fueling another wish that was made. That other wish was the wish to curse the Dreaming City, forcing it into a three week cycle, where everything resets after the third week. The reason why the raid is called "Last Wish" is because the last wish made to an Ahamkara was made by us, but the last wish granted was the one to curse the Dreaming City. As to who made that wish, the dungeon clarifies that (am sad that the dungeon wasn't shown). 4. The final boss of the dungeon, Dul Incaru, the Eternal Return, was the one we believed to be the reason behind the curse, and by killing her, we thought we'd end it. We weren't entirely right, because after 3 weeks, the cycle repeated itself again, and Dul Incaru was alive and well, ready for us to fight her again. It turns out that Dul Incaru is a daughter of Savathun, and willingly allowed herself to be forever reborn, thus the title "The Eternal Return". It turns out that the entire plot was made by Savathun, who was the one who went to Riven to wish for the Dreaming City to be cursed. Some miscellaneous lore tidbits: During the first mission, after Cayde's Ghost was destroyed, Cayde says "I'm coming home, Ace" while looking at his gun. While the gun is called the "Ace of Spades", Cayde is referring to a son he may have possibly had called Ace. It is not known whether he had a son, but after his Ghost revived him for the first time, he had organized many things with playing cards, and the he assumed to be for his son was the ace of spades. Guardians cannot remember anything before their first resurrection, so there was no way for Cayde to confirm this. During the mission where you get to hear a bunch of audio logs from Cayde, he tells Petra to send a message to Paladin Orin. Paladin Orin doesn't exist. When someone mentions that name, it's code for "Take the first letter of each word from the next part". So, by taking the first letters of what Cayde said, we get the sentence "It's on Enceladus". Enceladus is a moon of Saturn, but we still don't know what the "it" is that Cayde is referencing. Almost all Exos have a number after their name, which indicates the amount of times they've been rebooted. The reason behind the reboots escapes me right now, but a consequence of the reboots is memory loss. Normally, an Exo can be rebooted safely a number of times, but from 20 reboots and more is when their minds start to experience memory loss. Banshee-44, as the number suggests, has been rebooted 44 times, which is why his memory is so fragmented and broken. That's why, when he returns the Ace of Spades to you, he asks whether you've seen Cayde around. He genuinely cannot hold the memory of Cayde's death, especially since he's been a constant in Banshee's life. I may have missed some things I wanted to add into this lore dump, but that's probably already a bunch of info. In any case, I absolutely loved the reaction, and I cannot wait for the next Destiny reaction!
Fun Fact! Spider goes on to start a bar in the city and helps a struggling Fallen (or Eliksni, in their language) Community to come together and thrive. I know this all sounds like sarcasm, and somehow, it isn't.
Really hope they get to see future ‘Uldren’, he easily became my favourite character later on- and I like most people loved Cayde! The writers who worked on his return in the lore books were incredible and I’ll never forget reading those chapters for the first time back during season of the hunt. Talk about emotional whiplash
Zavala HAS been "recast," with Keith David now playing the role, but unlike with Ikora's or Ana's lines when they were recast (for actor availability and scheduling reasons, as those characters became much more active parts of the story), they are NOT going to be re-recording any of Lance's dialogue.
I KNEW IKORA SOUNDED DIFFERENT. On god, I never knew she and Ana changed voice actresses but every time I heard ikora I was like am I crazy, or does ikoras voice have a slightly higher pitch? Honestly, I could've Google it but I just said an it must be me.
@@ToxicVex267 Ikora was formerly Gina Torres (Keeper Yennen - The Legend of Vox Machina). She was recast with Mara Junot (Sindel - Mortal Kombat 11) in Season of the Splicer.

7:23 This is the reason why I called Cayde "Cool Boss" (As a Hunter at heart) Oh and a recommendation that is really good Destiny goodness if you have not seen it is "Dynasty" and "The Last Word and Thorn" by MynameisByf aka Lore Daddy Byf
@@JmantheJokerWell yeah but, they’re reacting to the story/trailers piece by piece in sequence and order, so it’s still a bit of spoilers when their reactions are a bit far behind in terms of where the game currently stands in terms of story.
The message that cayde says for petra at the end is awoken code (when ever a message is to be sent to "Paladin Orin") you take the first letter of each word in the sentence cayde says the message is "it's on enceladus" the destiny lore community still doesnt know what it means
We do. The deep stone crypt was planned to be on Enceladus but was moved to Europa. There was even a drawn map of Europa final map in the forsaken collectors edition
You guys have A LOT of lore to watch/listen if you wanna get then full story for Forsaken. Everything that was at play and referenced goes back to the Collapse (well before the events of Destiny 1) and goes through the Taken King and has numerous big bomb drops of plot points that set the stage for whats to come from Shadowkeep forward. I highly reccomend you guys watch the Byf videos with this lore, it'll make the next chapters of this series a lot more interesting than it already is!
I still can’t believe they actually not only got me to forgive uldren in a way but also manage to make me not hate that he’s back let alone like what he is now. So hard trying to avoid spoiling.
What I like about Forsaken is that it’s a mix of 2 genres. While you’re in the Tangled shore, it has the feel of a Western. While in the Dreaming city, it’s goes into fantasy
Also I think you might have misinterpreted Uldren's resurrection. A ghost revived him, so hes a light bearer now, Mara didnt have anything to do with it. Which all things considered raises more questions for later
So the thing about Uldren is that we never really see him totally himself in-game. When we meet him in Destiny 1 he's already been corrupted by the Darkness due to his exploration of the Black Garden. He's already half-mad by then. The events of The Taken King and Riven's manipulation just pushed him the rest of the way. He was actually beloved by the Awoken people before it all. Unfortunately most of the info on him is in lore books and item lore tabs, so it's very easy to miss. There's a sword you can get called Black Talon that in-lore was made to commemorate him after his apparent death in the Battle of Saturn, the quote in its description says he "brought peace to The Reef".
Yeah it’s tough. We say it all the time that hurt people hurt people and adding corrupted darkness and madness will only amplify that. But at the same time, we can only really go off of what we know and what we’ve seen and based off that we hate Uldren 😬😜🤗
2:04:25 Riven also mimicked the voices of other characters we are familiar with such as Ikora and I think Uldren, and others, hence the "Thousand Voices"
So Banshee 44 has had his mind reset 44 times. When an Exo is reset a part of their mind is wiped. Banshee has had it wiped so many times he ends up forgetting very often. Its quite sad really. Theres a piece of lore that says he reset his password to his data pad so many times because he never remembers.
Also about Cayde's mysterious Paladin Oran comment: whenever a message for "Paladin Oran" is given, you should take the first letter of every word and put it together. It's something Guardians use for hidden messages.
So to your confusion about Banshee aka the exo that repaired Ace. Exos (at least nonguardian ones) have to be reset regularly to make sure they human brain stays settled in the robot body. When they reset to many times they start to have memory gaps and Banshee has been reset A LOT more then other exo so he has memory problems. This led to the line of him forgetting Cayde is gone.
One of the many things thats is so good about forsaken is the cutscenes. Almost each one opens up with the forsaken symbol and then with Uldrens eyes. Every cutscene his eyes get darker and darker.. showing that Riven, the Wish dragon that was acting as Queen Mara, was slowly letting him slip deeper into the darkness. Also! Theres moments ij the being of the cutscenes that "Queen Mara" (Riven) was hinting towards Uldrens resurrection. In one scene she says "your so DEVOTED" in another she says "your so BRAVE" and then the last one.. "you have SACRIFICED.." if you remember the the things that it takes to be a guardian its this Devotion inspires Bravery, Bravery inspires Sacrifice.. and Sacrifice leads to death. Thats what it takes for a ghost to be able to resurrect someone who has died. And Riven was leading Uldren down that path whoever caused this curse is pulling the strings of ALOT in background and you will soon see what or who it is..
Uldren(now Crow)'s rez as a Guardian was teased throughout the story. "Mara" tells him that 'Devotion is forever' 'be brave' and that he has 'sacrificed' All of those are tenents of the Guardian creed. Devotion, Bravery, Sacrifice and Death. The Traveler doesn't seem to care about a person's actions prior to their ressurection, because you lose your memories, giving you a second chance. In Lore, Crow has paid for Uldren's sins and has to carry around baggage for a crime that he didn't even commit
1:03:38 Yeah, these are from the House of Dusk. They don't know that he created the SCORN. Earlier before the Red War, he was captured by the House of Kings to make a new fallen house loyal only to the "Kings" directly. You can guess he betrayed, killed, and made the House of Kings the first scorn army.
The message at 1:30:00 is coded and when you take the first letter of each word it translates to "It's on Enceladus", one of Saturn's satellite. The big head in the Deep Stone Crypt Will be a key part in the Beyond Light story. Finally to sum up the story, Oryx took Riven but she still had all her mind. Later on, Savathun went to her and made a wish to corrupt the dreaming city. However Rkven didn't have enough energy to do so. She then tricked Uldren using her voice (the boss at 1:21:50). With Cayde's death and learning that it was Riven's fault, we wished her own unitentionnaly. We have feeded her with our wish since Ahamkara trencend death cursing the dreaming city. That's why in the raid's dialogues, she urges us to kill her. Savathun used her vex mind Quria to resurrect Dul-Incaru, the witch controling the curse. Let's just say that Savathun saw almost every action back from The Dark Below expansion still to this day.
Spider's voiced by Robin Atkin Downes (Kazuhira Miller - Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker). While Banshee-44's voiced by John DiMaggio (Bender - Futurama). Toland, the 'will of the wisp' as Ken called him, is voiced by Gideon Emery (Biggs - Final Fantasy VII Remake). & Mara Sov is voiced by Kirsten Potter (Tae Takemi - Persona 5).
To help you two out a bit why banshee asked if the guardian had seen cayde around. Banshee has reset his memory 44 times, he doesn’t remember anything about his past lives mostly.
2:20:33 The “Unknown Guardian” is named Shin Malphur, The Man with the Golden Gun. He’s a legendary renegade hunter who is equipped with the famed “The Last Word” hand cannon. From what I know, he became a guardian to carry on his mentors legacy and to kill his murderer, a corrupted guardian who was once a hero to the last city turned its most hated villain named Dredgen Yor. Yor killed many great guardians for a while but was killed by Shin many years ago before most of the campaign events had occurred but his dark legend ended up creating the Shadows of Yor, a group of guardians who idolize him by using a replica of his gun “Thorn”. The Drifter and Callum are both members of the group before drifter left them, idk why Shin killed Callum but I assume it’s because they followed Yor. Shin is also mentioned by Cayde when you listen to his message to drifter.
17:30 In reference to Cayde's last words here, the "bet" he's talking about is the Vanguard Dare, an old Hunter tradition. Hunters value their freedom above all else, so getting stuck in the Tower is practically a fate worse than death for them. To shorten a very long (but good) story, Andal Brask and Cayde-6 made a bet with one another that whoever could kill Taniks, the Scarred wouldn't have to become the Hunter Vanguard. Well, Cayde managed to kill Taniks, so Andal became the Hunter Vanguard. But, Taniks pulled a Taniks and came back to life (twice), and eventually managed to kill Andal Brask. So, Cayde took up the mantle of Hunter Vanguard and killed Taniks a third time. But, as we saw in the House of Wolves DLC, TANIKS PULLED YET ANOTHER TANIKS. (He even came back to life in the "Wrath of the Machine" raid from Rise of Iron.) I'm so glad you guys reacted to Forsaken. Wish you could've gotten to experience it all on Day 1, but it still hits like a bus to this day. Rest in peace, Cayde.
34:44 correction: You're *technically* right for this expansion only. Cayde-6 is voiced by Nathan Fillion in all other Destiny content but for Forsaken Nathan was not available so Nolan North replaced him. Nolan North is the voice actor for our Ghost.
The fact that Cayde died broke my gaming heart and was my favorite character and i loved his jokes and his appearances brought me joy through the years of me playing the destiny series. He will be missed . Cayde 6 : 2014-2018
1:30:00 Paladin Oran is featured during the Prophecy dungeon. She is an awoken who became the oracle of The Nine, a mysterious force mentioned frequently throughout Destiny and Destiny 2 which we only finally learned concrete information about late in Destiny 2. She works for Xur's bosses basically. And has a past involving Drifter too.
In this specific context 'paladin oran' refers to a code where you take each first letter of each word said Eg "If the sun over Nessus escapes nebula cycle, evac labor after dawn, under solstice" This specific one spells "it's on Enceladus"
@@Zee-bm5wj That's right, ALSO I was mixing up Oran and Orin, who doesn't show up until 2:11:13. The names are similar, and I forgot that Orin was on the PILGRIM Guard not a PALADIN!
Oh man, I’d love to see what you two think of the story from Season of the Lost. It goes over Uldren and his resurrection. You learn about the life he’s lived, confused and alone with his ghost. For context, every ghost or course has their own mind. They all have the goal of finding the “right” person to resurrect. They have a feeling when the find the right one. When they do find that person, all of their memories are wiped clean. Uldren is effectively a brand new person, but guardians that have seen him have treated him harshly without telling him why.
You’ll eventually get to it in a way later story of a season and it reveals that Zavala was just afraid to leave the city because he was afraid to lose something else
Funny thing is that the moment Cayde-6 died his Hunter´s Dare was in play. Whoever killed him got all his gear, glitter, debts and responsibilities. It is how Cayde once upon a time got the position of Vanguard. Suddenly all eligible Hunter-class Guardians had pressing business away from the City, as to not be named as replacement. And guess what class is Uldren now?
For the part where Cayde leaves messages for those who he expects kills him. Theres some bits of lore that don't make sense if you dont read the written story. I'll be talking with the info up to this point in the story to avoid spoilers. Eris Morn: pretty straight forward. She's the one with 3 eyes, and has a fascination with the Hive since her fireteam was slain by Crota, the son of Oryx. Taniks: he was a Fallen Kell who kept coming back after being killed through unknown means. He was actually the reason why Cayde wound up as the Hunter Vanguard. Cayde and Andal Brask had their Vanguard Dare be whoever doesn't kill Taniks becomes the Vanguard. Cayde killed him, Andal becomes Vanguard and eventually dies to Taniks resulting in Cayde taking the mantle of Vanguard to honor Andal. Drifter: he's the guy who runs the Gambit game mode. Hes a secretive character, at this point there wasnt much lore about him but he went by many names and wasn't trusting of his Ghost, not even know. When he was first resurrected, he went the opposite way his Ghost told him, and died of starvation repeatedly because his Ghost brought him back again and again. "The man with the Golden Gun" is Shin Malphur, the first lightbearer to use it by channeling Solar light into his pistol. Petra: pretty straight forward again, but the part with "Paladin Oran" is a coded message. Where you take the first letter of each word to find the message "It's on Enceladus". The Deep Stone Crypt: this ties into the previous one. At this point it was unknown where the DSC was, and Enceladus was a planned location from before Destiny 1 but was scrapped. The "It's on Enceladus" message immediately made people tie 2and2 together. Unfortunately Enceladus remains not in the game, being replaced by Europa. Suraya Hawthorne and "Any Hunter": these 2 are straight forward with the latter tying into the Vanguard Dare from Taniks' message. Zavala, Ikora and, Ourselves: all pretty straight forward, basically tying a neat bow on their relationships. But for ours, there is a bit of lore where one warlock in Ikora's team suspected we were involved directly in the death of Cayde, saying it was odd that we were there during his death and many other major issues that plagued us from before. Also because the person's character is Awoken, they have some unique dialogue compared to Exo and Human. Awoken call Reefborn Awoken Brother and Sister, while non-Reefborn or those who left are Cousin. Mara is a unique case because she was made Awoken in the Awoken home world; the Distributary.
Been a while, but if I remember, they give you the option to be the one too shoot Uldren, or spare him which is cool. If spared, Petra still shoots him so he dies either way, but its cool that you can decide but he still gets his justice.
2:55 What's worse is that Cayde-6 thought he would be killed by Petra, the Queens Wrath, not Uldren the Foolish Enforcer. He thought it was too obvious.
With solar, arc, and void this expansion added a new damage type: emotional.
😢
Mara didn't resurrect Uldren. This was done by Traveler. In short, Ghosts are small Light transmitters that were created by Traveler. They also allow the Guardian to restore health and resurrect them. And they are looking for bodies in order to resurrect them. This is called the birth of the Guardian. At the same time, the resurrected Guardians do not remember their past life, so it is no longer Uldren, but Crow. In fact, this is already another character of the game.
Yeah they usually remember their past unless your Ana bray………..or a certain witch Queen.
@@ToxicVex267 that’s because they learned of their past
@@ToxicVex267 Guardians waking up for the first time remember nothing. Ana knew who she was because she was wearing her lab coat with the name tag on it.
There is a theory where it says "Due to Mara wishing Uldren's resurrection to Riven, Uldren was revived by the Traveler."(Mara would have wanted her brother back but Crow is a whole different person, classic Ahamkara)
These guys are the same kind of people who would have tried to kill crow lol
For a little clarification at 1:35:30, Banshee has been reset 43 times and has difficulty remembering things and iirc exos have memory issues the more times they've been reset.
Banshee is also a special case because he modified himself on his 43rd reset to intentionally forget certain things. It's just that Cayde was actually deeply involved with one of those particular things.
What does iirc mean?
@@commandercorgi if i recall correctly
@@commandercorgior remember
Yes. You can listen ghost say it if you find the datapad at Drifters old place.
Fun fact, Petra only welcomes you as "Cousin" if you're playing as an Awoken Guardian.
Nice. Had wondered that 😊
First time in years our Guardian spoke.
Was a huge moment in the story.
I just wish we could’ve said something to cayde in his final moments. We can’t console our dying mentor/friend but we sure can swear vengeance 10 minutes afterwards lol. But I really do love the “speechless… typical” line
When the most powerful guardian in recent history breaks a decade long vow of silence just to say they gona beat your ***
Back then it meant alot as it hasn’t happened yet.
Going to be tough not to want to punch him in the face every time we see him though 😂 he’s just got a punchable face 🤗
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames You'll grow to like him, but it's going to be a long journey!
We are following Destins playlist for the cutscenes and believe he has all the seasonal stories as well 🙂
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I think after you two are all caught up, you should listen to My name is Byf(aka lore daddy) He has two amazing videos that are a must. This was such an "OH F***!" moment that flew completely under the radar the first time I heard it.
😯 44 times coming back is indeed intense
A quick fun fact, we found out that Crow, Uldren's resurrected self is not fond of the sound of hand cannons and doesn't know why.
In the cutscene where Uldren dies, only the Guardian has a Hand Cannon. Petra has a sidearm. So, the chances are we were the one who shot him.
Okay, even I didn't know that thanks for the fun fact.
Dam I mostly use hand canons cause I love to be a space cowboy and I'm in a committed relationship with lucky pants. But all this time I was giving this man ptsd. 😂
@@ToxicVex267 Yeahhh, I remember looking at the bounty in Season of the Hunt (Winnowing by Hand Cannon iirc) and thinking, "oh shit we actually did do it."
Hunters FTW tho!
@@MihaeldiAngelo the ace of spades on my holster must make him sweat and he doesn’t know why.
Also yeah hunters ftw.
We had no idea it was a new voice actor 😯 very impressive 🤩
Another fun fact, there was a mission that the Drifter was supposed to narrate, but his VO was ill so they rewrote it for our ghost. Nolan did an impression of Drifter that was so spot on they had to instruct him to intentionally make it worse.
Drifter is best dangerous mfker on this side of the Reef
Sometimes he is more right than anyone about things. Especially things no one understand.
Interesting to see how that story plays out now 🤔 gonna be tough not hating him though
So he will probably go on thinking cayde his good friend is alive since the “disease” won’t kill him since he’s a robot
This expansion delves deep into the lore many times in this video but u guys wouldn’t get the references (dw u shouldn’t and stuff gets more clear over time when seasons explain lore stuff better) expansions tell bigger stories while seasons delve into the lore here on out.
Our guardian broke her years long vow of silence to announce her intention to clap Uldren's cheeks. He had no chance.
If you want to follow what happens to Uldren, check out the story of Season of the Hunt, Season of the Chosen, Season of the Haunted, and Season of Defiance for the lore regarding him.
I'd rather they do the seasons in order cause a lot of important things to happen in those seasons.

Absolutely loved y’all reaction to this DLC. I hope that later down the line you’ll get to the season cutscene, that will be some awesome reactions.

We will indeed be checking out the seasonal content 🙂
If not heres a short list of them
Forsaken > Season of the drifter > Season of the forge > Season of opulence > Shadowkeep > Undying > Dawn > Worthy > Arrivals > Beyond light. Theres more but wont write out everything cause it'd be crazy long
I hope they react to multiple seasons other than just one each video cause if so it’s gonna be a looong time before shadowkeep were stuff starts ramping up.
It’s actually season of the forge that happens before season of the drifter

We both did
I’ll never forget watching the game awards with my friends and seeing the reveal for this dlc. Shock isn’t a strong enough word to express how we all felt. This expansion took everything that’s amazing about vengeance stories and spun it the best way possible. I’ll forever love this expansion, and hopefully you guys take a look at the promotion material for the final shape. Well worth a look. Love the vid!
Oh, and same with the recent seasonal story stuff would be great to look at too
Thanks for letting us know about the new stuff to check out for Destiny 2 😅
That’s what makes it sad he has to be told over and over of caydes death.
I know at the time when this DLC dropped, I was pissed at Zavala for not wanting to take action. Only now do I understand why. He gets some crazy development later after this point that really endeared me to him more
well, i am still angry at him to this day.
Gonna be tough not seeing him as Uldren the dickbag 🤔

Btw, if anything says Oh _ Mine, they are a wish dragon. And Ahamkara. Thats a lil destiny lore for ya.
The thing with Riven is that she will mimic voices from other characters
Ah my favorite thing on monday!
Emotional damage.
Excuse me while I just do a massive lore dump, because I absolutely love this expansion:
Some miscellaneous lore tidbits:
During the first mission, after Cayde's Ghost was destroyed, Cayde says "I'm coming home, Ace" while looking at his gun.
1:35:22 Banshee has memory issues from getting wiped 44 times
Fun Fact! Spider goes on to start a bar in the city and helps a struggling Fallen (or Eliksni, in their language) Community to come together and thrive.
I know this all sounds like sarcasm, and somehow, it isn't.
And helps us later on ARRRRG
LMAO!!!! @ 2:13:34. Hands down the best part of this 2- hour reaction video!!!! Can't wait for you to see his new character arc.
His redemption arc is insane.
@@ToxicVex267 Season of the Lost really did him and Mara justice.
@@windstalker200season of the lost really showed us a side of Mara we rarely see her doubts her fears and how her ego can blind her sometimes really showing she can make mistakes. Uldr/ I mean crows story was amazing but the real star was Savathun boy I have never had someone make me question everything she says in my life she really lives up to her title hive god of cunning.
7:23 This is the reason why I called Cayde "Cool Boss" (As a Hunter at heart)
Oh and a recommendation that is really good Destiny goodness if you have not seen it is "Dynasty" and "The Last Word and Thorn" by MynameisByf aka Lore Daddy Byf
Can't wait to see your guys's reaction to the final shape trailers!
Spoilers? 🤨
@@thawingkarma233 changed it, but it's been revealed for like 5 months so it's fair game to talk about
@@JmantheJokerWell yeah but, they’re reacting to the story/trailers piece by piece in sequence and order, so it’s still a bit of spoilers when their reactions are a bit far behind in terms of where the game currently stands in terms of story.
Yoo, you finally got around to it. Can't wait for you to see Final Shape reveal.
By the way, Uldren gets a really good redeption arc.
Don't mind about Banshee-44. He was refreshed 44 times and he got problems with memory. So he casually forgot that Cayde was dead😂
Also I think you might have misinterpreted Uldren's resurrection. A ghost revived him, so hes a light bearer now, Mara didnt have anything to do with it. Which all things considered raises more questions for later
There are so many clips which can turn into meme-able gifs. The pure potential.
I always liked the Barons. Each one has their own unique personality and backstory
This was definitely my favorite D2 expansion and it was a game changer for sure!
"you have SACRIFICED.."
if you remember the the things that it takes to be a guardian its this
Devotion inspires Bravery, Bravery inspires Sacrifice.. and Sacrifice leads to death.
Thats what it takes for a ghost to be able to resurrect someone who has died. And Riven was leading Uldren down that path whoever caused this curse is pulling the strings of ALOT in background and you will soon see what or who it is..
I've waited so long for this 😭
Uldren(now Crow)'s rez as a Guardian was teased throughout the story.
1:03:38
Yeah, these are from the House of Dusk. They don't know that he created the SCORN.
Earlier before the Red War, he was captured by the House of Kings to make a new fallen house loyal only to the "Kings" directly. You can guess he betrayed, killed, and made the House of Kings the first scorn army.
Ah yes, the moment when Bungie began excluding the Happiness Expansion in their storylines
I knew something was off about Mara when she started appearing only to Uldren.
Yeah, as soon as she started popping in and out I knew she was in his head. Also, the way she acted seemed very unlike her.
I remember that for like the entire next 8 months I never took the ace of spades off me. I was always using it.
In between each dlc after forsaken has a few seasons that have some important moments in the overall story.
Do accept that the prince has be returned even though he forgot everything (love your content)keep up the good work
Thanks so much 🤗
When I played Forsaken, I thought that killing Uldron was the end, so glad I watched this
1:30:04 is a code - using the first letters spells It's on Enceladus
17:30
In reference to Cayde's last words here, the "bet" he's talking about is the Vanguard Dare, an old Hunter tradition.
(He even came back to life in the "Wrath of the Machine" raid from Rise of Iron.)
I'm so glad you guys reacted to Forsaken. Wish you could've gotten to experience it all on Day 1, but it still hits like a bus to this day. Rest in peace, Cayde.
Forsaken is one of my favourite dlc in all of destiny the only one that beats it is the witch queen but it super close
Check out the Final Shape reveal. That date might shift a bit.
@@Ceelker yeah i saw the trailer, it was good.
Yeah Cayde 6 is such a fantastic character 🤩😢🥲
Maybe I’m bias but the depth of the Human and Exo male voices when they say “Uldren Sov, is mine.” Just hits different. It’s so epic
When the strongest guardian breaks his 10 year vow of silence just to announce your ass is grass 😂
The Nine are literally the planets in our system. But nothing else has been explained, which is good.
In this specific context 'paladin oran' refers to a code where you take each first letter of each word said
Eg
"If the sun over Nessus escapes nebula cycle, evac labor after dawn, under solstice"
This specific one spells "it's on Enceladus"
@@Zee-bm5wj That's right, ALSO I was mixing up Oran and Orin, who doesn't show up until 2:11:13. The names are similar, and I forgot that Orin was on the PILGRIM Guard not a PALADIN!
1:01:43
Cayde's ghost name was Sundance, by the way.
I remember when Spider was my favourite character. Those were the days.
1:58:28 best joke in the expansion. Phones confirmed in Destiny universe haha.
Just watched your 'a bunch of destiny tailers' video out of boredom then got to my sub page and see this, good timing.
2:55
What's worse is that Cayde-6 thought he would be killed by Petra, the Queens Wrath, not Uldren the Foolish Enforcer.
He thought it was too obvious.
Ive been waiting for this) Cool reactions
I do hope they listen to the lore on Uldren because there was more of a story with him after the attack on the Dreadnought during the taken king.
