True, Rafa is spot on this one. In terms of how to handle defeats he is simply better than Novak in my by view. First response with someone with a brain on this thread! Thank you. Novak loses his cool sometimes but is the first to front up to the media and apologise.
Djokovic is the biggest supporter for mental health and was one of the only tennis players to come out and support Osaka. The abuse that gets hurled at him is ridiculous. He is a human being just like any other. Society needs to do better.

Well he is a real human being at the end of the day with real emotions. This is not a utopian world we are living in where human beings are perfect. Every person has their moments. Please let's not unnecessarily pressurise any sports man to fit in this so called "ideal" box and instead give them some space to breathe. Also, every tennis player literally has their moments on court but they obviously choose to broadcast Novak because he is the favorite villian. Everyone can chill out. Every tennis person literally has their moments. But they only broadcast Novak's moments because obviously the Western media has a history of doing nole dirty and painting him to be the bad guy again and again. Him throwing his racquets just shows the passion he holds for the sport. This literally doesn't define him in any way or measure his worth. No one was harmed. End of story. He is a real human being with real emotions. Having nervous breakdowns and to take out the pent up frustration is absolutely okay , we are nobody to dictate a person as to how they are supposed to deal with a situation. Novak doesn't need to justify himself. We will never be able to understand the mental or physical toll that takes over him so it's not our place to judge. Also what is up with the word "Ideal". Like please who defines that word. We are humans at the end of the day. No one can be perfect. Let's not 24/7 unnecessarily pressurize any sportsman to fit into this "ideal" box. Instead please let's give them a space to breathe. It's funny to see how people aren't there to discuss Novak's highs and good deeds but as soon as there is something stupid like this happening suddenly everyone wants to a part of the conversation and lecture Novak. To people like these just leave honey. I get it you all don't have anything better to do but atleast don't contribute to this shitty journalism.
@Daniel Bautista It lacks if every role model have perfect emotional control. Not everyone is like that, including kids, it's nice to have a relatable example of someone who feels strong emotions yet does do his best to deal with it.
There is no need to make this racket issue so big. He is very open minded person whatever he is inside same outside. It's his way of freeing emotions, one feels better after that. It's completely OK he is not harming anyone, isn't he have freedom to behave like he want.also not in every match he is showing frustration. People are critising him like they have full control on their emotions. And he was in immense pressure. Personally I don't find any any bad in it.
Glad I'm not the only person who feels that way. If the only examples kids have if just athlete that have perfect emotional control, then a relatable idol would be missing for a lot of them. Some people are more emotional than others, and it feels a whole heck of a lot like all people with less amplified emotions are trying to impose their way of being on the former. That itself is a bad example in terms of lacking empathy.
Unfortunately no, he doesn't have the freedom to behave like he wants to because smashing a racket is an unsportmanlike conduct and is punishable with a loss of point and a fine. He wasn't even given a penalty for this game which should have been the bigger issue.
Rafa was right and to the point: "Not the best image" . Nole overdone it at this match with throwing away and breaking his rackets. I am perfectly fine with breaking his racket on the court while holding it though!
Nadal is just jealous of djoko because he will never win another gs again that's why he is just trying to lift up his image and make djoko the bad guy here
I think the tennis association should make a rule that players who are smashing their rackets would be given a yellow or red card. the yellow card would be allowing the opponent to serve and if the one smashing is the one on serve his points if there is any prior to the outburst should be taken out from him. red card is giving the opponent a point and serve advantage. there are too many tennis players nowadays who are having tantrums if they do not get what they want it is not a good example to children who love the sport. just saying.
I always find Rafa's statments on novak diplomatic like criticising him on some actions and at the same time praising him as one of the best in history😄😄thats why rafa has more fans than novak

By focusing on a fellow legend with words of "wisdom" that are there to protect his own image, he actually called himself out of the DC tournament today by invoking karma. Better focus on yourself Rafito
The pile on against Djokovic smashing his racquet is so lame. it’s healthy for sportspeople to release tension and express frustration - especially at Olympic level. Jog on.
Some of the comments on this thread are just so stupid. When medvedev, Rublev or other top players smash their racquets there is media silence. When Kygios does it people laugh. When Novak does it, it’s like he is the worst human being on the planet. Federer and Nadal are like robots. No emotion, every match is the same. Novak wears his heart on his sleave and that’s why we love him. Ignore the Fedal trolls on here.
Yes, I completely agree with you. Some people are just more emotional than others, and this whole thing has an eerie feeling of some non-explicit assertion by people less prone to strong emotions that their way of being is better. He's not actually attacking anyone, he really is just having those strong emotions, that really has to be inherently a terrible thing?
100% and more maybe he should be disqualified from the game and maybe he will weak up . He need to get help how to control he's atuitude and fostration, angers.

He’s not Rafa and he’s not Roger I don’t condone some of the behavior but you have to get it out of yourself from time I kind of like the fact that he’s different from them
Joker shouldn't be over obsessive over winning all the time. His passion to be the best sometimes robs him of control. However nadal also seems bit perturbed by recent losses against him and hence he criticised his antics. All said and done, joker needs a bit of self control. My hunch is if he loses regularly, he might do something truly stupid. Tennis has changed and McEnroe tantrums dont do any favors to any player.
Nadal is just jealous of djoko because he will never win another gs again that's why he is just trying to lift up his image and make djoko the bad guy here
I dont think Rafa made this comment out of the blue, firstly, he got asked and he gave his opinion. It´s not great to see that potentially the GOAT reacts like this when he´s under pressure and things not working out for him. As a nº1, everyone looks up to you, even the young ones next gen on the tour. Now Rafa never smashes a racket true, but when he´s angry he shows frustration with himself and not externally. I respect novaks career, from a rafa fan, he will beat every record on paper but these actions are just not great to see.
Western media against Djokovic like always. At atp cup 2020 Nadal insulted Serbian fans, no one said anything! At Roma master 2021 Rafa insulted the whole Italian court mangemet when he fell down. no one said anything !!
Rafa was right, but saying this wasn't right. If you are really concerned, then go speak to Novak privately, instead of virtue signaling. I cannot imagine Novak saying something like this had the situation been reversed
Indeed, young aspiring players look up to them as examples to follow. So, It is a little bit tough to see those images. We are all humans, and Nadal spoked well in saying he hopes Djokovic shows more restraints. No one is perfect, but there can be consequences to our actions.

Djokovic is a good player but his arrogance and petulance are very unbecoming as a world number 1. Its why Roger and Rafa will always be loved more by the public.
It's obvious that fans with an "ic" in their surname praise Mr Djokovic to the skies, no matter how embarrassing and unsportsmanlike his behaviour is. A little more objectivity would be good, but apparently the almost hysterical national pride does not allow that.
@@piner74 I'm Irish and agree with the OP. Please don't make this about race, it's a weird angle and not a welcome comment. He's a human being and one who clearly cares to an extreme degree about the sport and his results, it's hardly surprising he has a bad day every once in a while and hardly surprising that passion sometimes comes out in a negative way. Relax. If your kid starts acting out after watching one tennis star get angry, you need to raise your children better.
Actions like this should have consequences. So, personally I think breaking rackets is totally fine as long as players know they will be penalized for it. No kid is gonna grow up into an adult saying "I'm quitting tennis because I saw Djokovic have a meltdown. Or I'm breaking my racket cause i saw Djokovic do it 20 years ago." I do think we should teach kids that if you lash out like this, actions have consequences. But that's Just my opinion.
Djokovic is just showing his emotions. Imagine losing out on something you wanted so dearly and then being forced to play the next day. No one got injured (except himself) they were his rackets, no harm caused. Anyone criticizing the way he acts is only doing so because they can’t pretend their favorite player is better than he is anymore.
Smashing rackets isn't a good thig when millions of kids look up to you. Unlike Novak young players aren't sponsored. They can't just a racket out of their bag after smashing one. He is role model for many so he should act that way. rafa didn't say anything wrong

I love Novak but I believe that hubris led to his defeat at Tokyo. Djokovic knows that when push comes to shove, he is truly the best. He become overconfident in his abilities and underestimated how difficult Tokyo would be especially with the current weather conditions. His coaches wanted him to focus on just singles but he felt like he could do the mixed doubles as well. While his father didnt even want him to go to Tokyo in the first place.
I have every bit of respect for Novak's game, but, Nadal is right about his attitude. He's always been like this. I would have thought after his disqualification last year he would have learned his lesson. He should have paused and reflected on the year he's been having. He also should have just played singles instead of multiple events if he wasn't 100%, entering both singles & doubles didn't make any sense. If I were him I'd take a couple weeks vacation, decompress, regroup & come back strong for the US Open.
No harm done...just blowing off frustration with himself at the expense of a couple of free racquets. That's better than hitting himself with a racquet. I've seen pros do that and even draw blood or bruising.
He should be embarrassed. A 50 million dollar a year guy behaving badly while 99.9 % of the other athletes manage to conduct themselves gracefully win or lose at their event that they have worked a life time just to get there AND chances are its the end of the line as regards their athletic career.

And I've never heard him being disrespectful to his opponent on court or in a press conference and yet I've heard many bad comments about him from his opponents in press conferences.
VERY true, but they don't speak about that. Djokovic has shown way more respect to Rafa and Roger throughout his whole career than they've ever shown him. Especially Roger when you think about how he compared him to a junior player in a very contemptful way after US Open 2011 SF. But no, instead the spotlight is ALL on whether he smashed a racket or not, which in my opinion is pretty trivial compared to the words that you speak about others.
Same happened to Rafa in Rio Olympics and he didn't win medal but he never misbehaved. It's okay to have a bad day but you don't need to create ruckus for that.
As a big Djoko fan I was shocked by his outburst. Shame he did this in full view of the world, who will all pass judgement on him. I really don't believe he would have done it if the stands were full, but his yell of anger and also throwing the racquet at the post, didn't bode well. Hope he gets some anger management treatment from his psych coach & he can then ensure it doesn't happen in the future. He needs to show us why he is still the GOAT!!
Youre not a fan of djoko otherwise you would understand that a little less his usual game disappoints him because he is goat and goat doesnt loose., Stupid are those not goat and throw or smash racquets, why smash racquets when your the regular looser.
Although i am huge rafa fan for last 15 years, but rafa saying "luckily there was no one around" seems inappropriate and nasty here ,as even he knew that Olympics are being held without spectators so djokovic did throw his racket purposely knowing that there's no one around to be hit and we all know novak does things like that even when he's winning and this time around he did the same. Novak is one heck of a tennis player and probably the best in the history, and he was the one who stopped rafa 10 years back from being invincible on all surfaces ,so credit should be given to novak for what he has done in this game and trust me these kind of things like breaking rackets ,yelling on crowds and umpires ,throwing rackets coudnt downgrade his masterclass game ever,so being a rafa fan i guess rafa shouldnt have gotten into the nitty-gritty of this matter and even if he does, he shouldnt be criticising his greatest rival. He knows novak well and on the contrary, i have always listened and seen novak admiring rafa for what he does.
You mean, the same Federer who released a commercial with Rolex about records not being the most important just as Djokovic was about to reach 20 GS? Yeah, such an amazing sportsman
nadal, who is he to make such comment about others, he is not in djokovic shoes, let the umpire decide. It wasn't come of nowhere. The reporter asked him the question about Djokovic smashing the racket and throwing in the stands. Just like you have your opinion Nadal has his opinion, too. Just relax.
Djokovic has already been disqualified for smashing a tennis ball at a lineswoman. Earlier in his career he threw a racquet that could have hit someone and was called up on it by the press in the post match press conference - he called the questioner stupid.
Novak tends to go overboard once a while especially when he is struggling. Whether it was Australia open against the Korean or the famous us open umpire incident or this latest one. There is always the option to take the calmer approach. That goes well beyond retirement too.
Nadal is just jealous of djoko because he will never win another gs again that's why he is just trying to lift up his image and make djoko the bad guy here
Except... Djokovic IS the bad guy here. His behaviour was atrocious even with all the pressure on him to win gold, and Nadal is one of the only guys on tour who can call out Djokovic without an ounce of hypocrisy
Everyone just picks up one negative thing about you, doesn’t matter if you’ve 100 other positives. Nobody acknowledges how gracious Nole is in win or defeats. It’s not like he is harming someone out their with his occasional burst(please don’t come with that Karen argument here).
I don't have a problem with what Rafa said. I guess it's not his job to point out that Novak never flung a racket into crowded stands, let a long a tennis ball.( It's like shooting a bullet in an empty forest, It was probably a subtle way for Novak to express his displeasure for not allowing spectators at the Olympics), but be that as it may. I think Rafa Nadal is not always honest, and his shots at Novak time to time reveal jealousy . For instance when Novak said that he will concentrating more on Grand Slams, Rafa said that Novak is more obsessed than him about winning . I know English is not his first language but using the word obsessed was not a mistake. Anyone who watches their reactions after winning tournaments, if being objective, will disagree completely . I saw Rafa celebrating his 500 level Barcelona win this year, you would think Rafa just won Wimbledon. In comparison when Novak beat Federer at the 2019 Wimbledon final, he not only was reserved in his celebrations but he didn't put salt in the wounds of his opponent by falling on his back and making his opponent wait at the net in misery. I'm not trying to to say that it's Rafa who is obsessed with winning, but the fact that he is playing a 500 level tournament this week for the first time before the US open proves that he cares about winning Slams just as much as Novak does. Anyone who thinks differently is being a fool. My biggest problem with Rafa, and Federer for that matter, that with the help of the media they are objecting to the formation of the players association . Novak and about 75% of the players on the tour are trying to improve conditions for all the players , and lower ranked players in particular. Anybody who follows tennis closely knows that Novak, Nadal, Federer and even other top 40 players make between enough money to be rich and very rich, but players ranked much lower sometimes barely make end meet. The media, who usually loves every union created in history, for some mysterious reason, is siding with Nadal and Federer objection to this particular union. Nadal and Federer are not eager to shake the ATP tree (Maybe because they are both worth about half a billion dollars). If one would look at this objectively, they would see that Novak is doing it for the other players, while Nadal and Federer are the ones being selfish. I wonder if the fact that Rafa spent over a decade trying to better Federer, which , for the most part he was able to do, but than comes a 3rd guy name Novak Djokovic who outplays them both. For those who don't follow tennis beyond Grand Slams. Go to the ATP website or anywhere else and compare the top 3. You will see why Rafa is so jealous of Novak Djokovic.
There is absolutely no excuse for Djokovic's behaviour. None at all. If everybody behaved like he does "under pressure" this world would be a very dangerous place to live in.
He can modulate his behavior, but not his nature...these outbursts are his nature and character, and by the time he is in press conference his handlers have taught him the right things to say to mitigate damage. I don’t even believe he is injured in Tokyo ... it is his ego and arrogance, he does not want to stand at a podium for a bronze medal.
I did comment on NOVAK's outburst on Barrettini during that match in ROLAND GARROS recently. Unfortunately many fans went berserk against me. The incidence in TOKYO again firmly strengthens, the case against the No 1 player, on his poor handling of such incidences. I definitely agree with what RAFA says here. We all feel sad for NOVAK , as he lost out on an excellent opportunity to achieve a once in lifetime record. But that doesn't mean that he can do what he did in Tokyo. Let's hope things change for better.
First of all, Novak is a human, so every other Novak's reaction but this would be FAKED! Second off all, Novak isn't one of the bests in history, he is the best in the history. I didn't heared stereoid-man's comments about Zverev and his action with the raquett.
Nadal just gave his opinion what the media asked him during his presscon. Your argument Novak is a human is kinda silly. How many times he smashed his racquets throughout his career? And yet he never learned? As a human, you learn from your mistakes and strive to do better. But I never see it from Novak, he does it from time to time.
@@alvincarrasca827 Obviously. But, there is always that "but", could he, possibly, answer it in some different manner? Oh, sure he could it, but why he didn't, huh? That is why Novak is the best of all time, he takes serious his objectives. That is his life and we all can see this when he smashes the racket. Playing in the brutal level that nobody else has ever played, does that to you. Nadal wants to be the good guy? Ok for me. But, in the end, the GOAT will be Novak, and that is what he is persuing.

Rafa is 100% accurate. Novak is a role model for many people, it sets a bad example.
Him breaking his racquets doesn't measure his worth in any way and definitely doesn't set a bad example. People can honestly chill out.
@@inshaaink1436 They choose to broadcast Novak BECAUSE he is the world no.1 and possibly the greatest of all time. More people look up to him and hence he receives criticism from a larger amount of people. It's not so hard to understand man..
Rafa is probably just commenting, but to term it as calling out may be quite a stretch.
We are the ones overreacting.
Yeah, media keeps asking his opinion and people overreacted.
I get it you all don't have anything better to do but atleast don't contribute to this shitty journalism.
ya, but he is an a hole. it has to with entitlement. He will injure someone.
The good lesson here i think is just to know how to accept his defeat...

Some of the comments on this thread are just so stupid. When medvedev, Rublev or other top players smash their racquets there is media silence. When Kygios does it people laugh. When Novak does it, it’s like he is the worst human being on the planet.

Relax. If your kid starts acting out after watching one tennis star get angry, you need to raise your children better.
His bad day comes every time he is losing
Actions like this should have consequences. So, personally I think breaking rackets is totally fine as long as players know they will be penalized for it.

👏👏😀 I agree with Rafa!
Cringe
Nadal just gave his opinion what the media asked him during his presscon. Your argument Novak is a human is kinda silly. How many times he smashed his racquets throughout his career? And yet he never learned? As a human, you learn from your mistakes and strive to do better. But I never see it from Novak, he does it from time to time.
@@alvincarrasca827 Obviously. But, there is always that "but", could he, possibly, answer it in some different manner? Oh, sure he could it, but why he didn't, huh? He could say: "Ummm, I really don't know. It would be a quite disrespectful to comment that because I were not in Novak's shoes on that match." Wouldn't that be a more proper answer?
He calls out the legend Novak and then lose vs someone who is 50 place in tennis 🤣🤣 karma
@Caio it’s not about being a good guy. Are you saying that you are what Novak’s actions are justifiable am I interpreting this correctly? Do you have the smash a racket to be considered a GOAT?
@@lintonblaise2356 No, you are interpreting it wrong. But, when you want so much something, it's "normal" to be angry when you dont get it. In a similar way, of course, way way down to earth, image playing video game and not being able to defeat a boss. What almost everyone do? Punch the pillow, sofa, break the controller, etc... Now, imagine that you represents a hole country, that people of every age counts on you AND you could achive one of the greatest moments of history in your sport. You prepare for years, sacrifice all and... loses. Well, you got the point. Break a simple racket (simple in terms of not be as significant as a hole career) It's nothing, and we can understand it. We are humans. Nadal handle better the situation? Good for him, but it means not so much at means for Nole.
Rafa was right 👌👍❤️ it's always the same with djogovic when he loses he just can't accept it for me that not a sportsman,
Djocovic is going to answers Nadal on US Open court. Nadal like to use this action to grow himself. Why not to call Novak and advice him. It's not good Nadal. I can't wait the knock out you Nadal 3 set to 1 on US Open.
@@707ladytee No comment.
His temper tantrums are scary.
How old is Novak? He is a horrible role model. I think he should be fined or suspended. Rafa never speaks poorly of his peers, so I have to agree. Novak is a very driven player and does not need to carry on like this. It just turns people off. He is not for my kid to see.
Totally agree with Rafa. I was wondering if Novak or even Fed had Rafa's composure, how much more would they have won even now.
the problem with djokovic is he cannot be happy for all he acheived instead he is so intolerant to one loss , thats one reason he is like a robot and do not have the charm to win peoples heart . he is so focused on getting all the tiles but lack the mindset to enjoy the process .....
He is just a human. So he can do whatever he wants? You say that?? Lol
Rafa is not the GOAT of tennis. To be honest No one is.
Rafa makes it impossible for someone to become goat. A goat is someone who is great at all surface and we know no one is going to be better than Rafa on clay.
This single thing just makes it impossible to decide the goat.
I totally agree with you, "goat" in one surface doesnt mean all of time, btw i have something to ask
A Rafael Nadal fan told me that nadal is an excellent hard court player because ha said he has 4 us open although 1 AO but he was 5 times finalist at AO and 5 times finalist US open and winning hard court torunament at master and other, Do you agree with that statement?
@@dash5687 Obviously Rafa is a great hard court player as well. Winning 5 hard court slams is no joke.
It's just that there are better hard court players than him. Like nole and Rodger.
Each if the big three are better than the other in some way. It's just not possible to call one out a goat.
@@ridhinagar706 Rodger?i wondered why some people called that name. Hurmmm
@@ridhinagar706 oh so you acknowledged rafa as one of the great hard court player, well thanks for answer
Not a good role model??? Well I think, Rafa should stop pulling out his underpants and anoying the crowd with all his moves before making his serve! And what about making some Advertising for Alcohol, is that his understanding of being a great role model for the youth, which looks up to him? C'moooon, before you accuse someone else Rafa, take a look at yourself!
Look yourself in the mirror 👍👍👍
Suggest you google 'smashing racquets'. Nadal, Federer, zverev, Medvedev, Thiem, Kyrios etc have all gpne potty with racquets.
If Novak is the only player who does that then it’s ok to discuss.. so Rafa can have his opinion but I ll pass. Him saying there is no pressure for him winning 21 st slam .. common why not one talk about that big fat lie.. Novak wears his heart on his sleeve where Rafa hides his.. good on them.
I seen it, not a good look for he sport, then he wonders why fans don't support him💯
What a beat up m8, he really didn’t say anything bad about Novak
Everything he said makes him look jealous he should have deferred in commenting about a person better than yourself in records and head to head, very ungentleman of him
Djokovic have anger issues nadal is absolutely right
At least Novak is showing who he is, unlikely others pretend to be nice.
@@regilanerocha1299 he is showing he is a loser who throws racket in stands and showing immaturity
These are not anger issues smarty, that would hurting others becuzof your anger
@@rishabhgulati9804 that doesn't make any sense
I’m a Nole super fan and I agree.
There is something else wrong with Novak-----he was even thinner than usual at Wimbledon, looking rather sickly-----
Drama in tennis? Oh my! Maybe a new Olympic Sport sport could be racket tossing. As long as they give us a great interview why would we care what goes on during the match.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think rafa is the only one allowed to say that.
Rafa trying to play head games with a mental giant. Good luck with that!
Know where you're coming from - you well mannered Brits booed the no 1 player at prestigious Wimbledon for nothing. And do talk about your manners at Wembley.
Still....Novak really needs to work on his role modelling....especially at the age and maturity he is supposed behave...he isn't a raging teenager anymore...time to get a lot more maturity NOLE. I am such a fan and I am disappointed in his actions. I have toned down my enthusiasm for wanting to support him fully. Let's see if over the next few years we will never see this behaviour from him again....Nadal is a very strong role model for our human race 😀 💯. 🇨🇦
Nadal needs to be honest and come out of the closet
