Watching you pack is the next best thing to packing yourself for a road trip. Was planning to go to the Freakshow Festival in Walcha in 3 weeks which would have been my next road trip but the thing got cancelled. Anyhow I am picking up bad habits from you and ramble :) After watching this I must say that I am terribly unprepared judging by what I am NOT taking on my road trips. In fact am hardly taking anything you mentioned and got away with it for 30+ years, so not a bad run. Balls to the Walls I say :) Safe journey, and can't wait for the footage. Cheers Joe
Awesome educational video on how to pack a C50 !!! I have had mine since April of 2017. This video has given me so many ideas how to make it all fit well on the bike. Thank you very much !!!
Awesome stuff Mark. Great to see how you pack. Always exciting to prep for a trip, you got me thinking about it now. Can’t go wrong with a Heinz big and chunky and salami stick, my usual diet also. Looking forward to watching the vid. Ride safe bro. ATB Jason.
Youve got it well covered. The only ideas I could suggest maybe would be a little med kit with a tactical tourniquet, sunscreen, tape and nylon ties. Have a great ride Mark.
Oil and filter is the life blood of any engine so a good plan. Onboard toolbox would be handy as hell, something the 109 doesn't have.... ANY onboard storage. I love that bag btw, need to look at getting one myself I think.
Don't forget to pack a little shovel and some dunny paper. Nothing worse than seeing dunny paper blowing around everywhere. Looks like it might be heating up again. Pack more water for the just in case scenario.
Watch out for the bull dust out there mate, unfortunately a bloke lost he's life a couple of weeks back on those roads. Plus we've just had a few dust storms go thru too.
greetings to u mark in down under land see ur weather bucked up ours going down hill loved ur prep up of the bike vid one good thing ur doing it on a suzuki no worries there ive done alot of miles on my old GS 750 always take more than i need as for fuel not to bad in uk my gs has no fuel gauge so use trip meter 18 ltr tank 30 to 35 mpg under 70 mph lol liked the way u put things across have good safe trip bro all the very best mark and keep on keeping on Glenn
G day mark well knock me down with a feather duster ive had 3 likes back last few days thanks to ever you all are made my year and seasonal greetings to u all down under the brotherhood of bikers lives on weather permiting keep on keeping on all the best GLenn (in a very cold Manchester England brrr brass monkey weather)
Man I sure wish I was going on that ride with you guys. Anyway, it's nice to see all of your preparations, it helps me to know what I need to take on trips, too. Some of things you mentioned and showed, I had not thought of, so I will be getting some of those items.
Always a good idea to carry a lensatic compass , and for the life of me can't understand why people still continue to rely on GPS out of a phone , a good handheld gps with full topo maps can be bought for as little as $300 and in some cases such as my older MAGELLAN , can be mounted on the bike and plugged into a bike usb port and used all day , mobile phones are not really designed to be sitting out in the sun on handlebars all day , it slowly cooks them
There are positives and negatives for spoke wheels and mag wheels, but the ability to plug a flat tire while on the bike makes the mag wheel the winner for me. The Boulevard c50c and the m50 have mag wheels. I really enjoy your videos. I may have missed something along the way when Harry started to burn oil. Might be time for a new m50?
Good one Mark, quite a comprehensive vid. I am really looking forward to this trip. Do you have any issues with the gear inside the saddle bags rubbing against each other excessively, especially on corrugations?? I agree totally with the idea of not relying on fuel availability in remote areas having been caught out in the past as well. Ill be taking 2 x 5lt extra fuel. I am looking forward to doing what will be my first ride with you and the others. My bike will be set up with similar items to what you just covered. Having appropriate skills and resource for survival, first aid and navigation i traditionally ride and remote camp solo for weekends or even weeks. My M50 Boulevard cruiser seems to be more capable on gravel than what I am so I am looking forward to getting the extra gravel experience and I'll be quite happy to lag a little behind without concern. Cheers. see you next week. Oh , do you know if either of the other riders will be coming up from Melbourne on the Friday morning? .
Its not just the outback they get lost, I live in a metropolitan area, and there are people who rely on their phones to navigate around the area all the highways, side streets, etc and they get lost. I still know how to use a paper map and compass, even get a bearing .
Very good video. I would like to know your motorcycle cleaning routine. I know you can get your bikes quite grubby, but then they again look like showroom. Mark, who makes the saddle and the bag you had set up on the luggage rack? Do you sell those?
He was in Cooper peatie also you guys gotta be close to each other!.... Be cool to see you guys hook up and do a video!... I been watching your channel a long time!....
3.78l=1gallon?? Not Australian or UK gallons, mate! Hopefully you won't need those spare fuel cans but you're not carrying as much fuel as you think. I have several bikes one of which is a 2003 VL800. Done loads of multi day trips through Spain and France, through the Pyrenees, sometimes on fire and gravel tracks, loaded with camping gear etc. Its never missed a beat. Seriously. Those Suzuki are very capable and underrated bikes. Hope you have a great time. Cheers
@Jimmy Call I have a msr bag that I keep on the bike in case of emergencies. I don't carry it full when I'm just out and about but it sure has come in handy nonetheless. I know giant loop do a fuel bag as well. Bit pricey though. My first "emergency" reusable fuel bag cost me £2! Not as fancy as the msr or giant loop but it did the job. Only retired it because I fancied treating myself😉. Loads of stuff on the market these days. Cheers
Not Marks fault the cans are made to US spec, as long as he's aware of how many litres he has he can make a judgement on range. How many cubits to a gallon? Imperial or US.
I've had it 10 years now from new and it has 50,900kms on it. It's been great except for the driveshaft fail (factory fault) and just recently started using oil but it was just gummy rings so the spray cleaner has pretty much reduced it!
@@BikerBits Nice, I own the same bike but with only 17,000 miles on it. For a future video it might be good if you did one on long term reliability of the C50 since it has a bit of a 'cult following', and is still a worthy midrange cruiser IMO
I also carry slime and a compressor. Best for tubes. Used it to fill a nailed (big nail) tube on a remote mountain to ride down to the shop and avoid waiting two hours or more for the RSA. If you bring a big C clamp (to break the bead) and tube patch kit you can fix the tire on the bike. Just skinny out the damaged part of the tube, patch it and refill like on a bicycle.
Hey mark, hope you had a sick trip dude, I’m in the states and I have a C50, was wondering if high frequency vibrations through the floorboards has been as issue for you, or does it not happen for you at freeway speeds? I get a bit vibey in the calf area when I’m doing about 70 miles an hour, which is pretty much mandatory for my 38 mile one way commute to work. Was just curious if this was an issue for ya, and if so, any advice? I still ride to work and its not a big deal but if I did 700 miles I’d imagine my legs might feel like jello 😂 Thanks in advance!
No I don't have that problem at all. The only thing I could think of is to put a bit of rubber in where the floor boards hing. You will see what I mean if you look under the floor boards and move them up and down. It may help :-)
Biker Bits I’ll cut a gromit down and see if I can slide one up in there or maybe they just need tightened up. I’ve had it about a week, it was my friend’s bike for ages and he loved it so much he got a C90, and I sold my 650 VStar for his boulevard 😂 he bought the boulevard in the first place because of your videos too! Thanks for the advice!
@@jeeves6490 I looked up the NSW rules and none of the conditions that allow it would apply if you were broken down on the side of the road on a motorbike.

The rear motorcycle bag is great, where did you get that from. And the flat board that attaches to the rear you made is a brilliant idea.
"Run through quickly", 50 minutes later..., watched it all anyway!
I’ve got the 2009 C50SE here in Canada. I routinely get 250km on a tank while going 110-120km/h on our highways.
It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Good video, Mark. Thanks.
Have a safe trip Mark. Can't wait to see the footage.
Thanks for this vid looking todo the same with c50 Suzuki inspired me . Great advice camping gear and set up. Hope to see you on the road.bargy.
