Other videos are sooo vague, I finally found this video and was able to solve it on my first attempt. I appreciate the length and detail, I was genuinely not annoyed in the slightest by the effort you made to make sure we understood the process. I think J perm's video was way too short, he just expected everyone to know the order to solve and the algorithms to use... This video is great! I got a megaminx for christmas and just now solved it for the first time thanks to this video.

Your method works! The final layer was the hardest, especially the third stage. It's easy to mess up the algorithm if not concentrating. I had to do this several times. It's also disconcerting when the middle pieces no longer match up during that process. Thanks again for your help.

THANK YOU for teaching this in a way that kind of uses mnemonics instead of just memorizing algorithms. I have trouble learning certain things, and mnemonics were the only way I was able to remember how to solve a regular 3x3x3 cube. I learned the same way for solving a pyraminx, and a 5x5x5. Now that I've got the hang of those, I got myself a megaminx... but everyone's tutorials ALL seem to involve memorizing algorithms. I just can't do that.
Your tutorial is the first one I've been able to follow at all, so thanks very much. I'm looking forward to completing my megaminx for the first time :D

I got confused during your explanation of solving the topmost layer. Suddenly algorithms! But solving the top layer's triangle pieces is similar to solving a 3x3x3's edges, thankfully. The rest, I'm still having a hard time getting the hang of.

Just wanted to come here to say what a great teacher you are. You absolutely hit the nail on the head about the other videos not clearly explaining what the steps are.
With your clear instructions, I was easily able to solve the hedron, and more importantly I was able to understand what I was doing and why.
This isn't just a series of moves to memorize, instead this is guidance on how to solve the puzzle that will last hopefully for a long long time. I know this video has been around for some time, but I wanted to thank you for taking the time to make it.

awsum creations1 I kept messing up my megaminx at the last part until I realized what I was doing wrong. After I oriented the color for the top corner piece I was forgetting the do D (the last move of the algorithm "R' D' R D"), and I just went on to the next corner that needed orienting and forgetting to do D each time. This scrambled part of the puzzle because I wasn't doing the algorithm correctly. For example, look at 36:41. After he gets the first grey corner matching he moves the bottom layer to D again.

Thank you so much! I really wanted to learn how to solve a megaminx, and your tutorial was great at teaching me how to do it! My only concern is the unclearness of certain parts...... but they don't really cause any huge problems or anything. Thanks for the great tutorial! Keep up the good work!

    • @brettstembridge2507
      @brettstembridge2507 Год назад

I agree with the unclearness comment. For example, several times, ad nauseum he explains right anti-clockwise is referred to as right prime. However, at about 31:14 he turns the top anti-clockwise twice but says, "2 ups," opposite of what he did. The video has plenty of room for improvement. And what's with the fidgeting with the cubes? maybe their unnecessary presence is why he erroneously keeps referring to the megaminx as a cube. Also, It would have been better to explain terminology only once at the beginning. Never mind that orientate is not a word, he interchanges the verbs "position" and "orient." They are not interchangeable. Finally, if you can solve a cube, you should be able to get to the final layer of a megaminx the first time you pick it up.

That's true, I think the fact that it's a 3x3x12 is important too though. If you take a single corner of the megaminx, the edges away from it are 3 in length, so it's kinda like a regular 3x3x3 corner. I'm not sure of the specific but there is definitely some maths to back this up.

This video actually takes the time to explain the strategy behind the solution. Once you know the strategy, it’s just a matter of making the proper moves.

Extremely helpful. I watched other tutorials and none of them really helped with the last layer, but this one explained it thoroughly. It was nice to finally solve it, and the algorithms helped a lot, because in most other videos I watched, they barely explained the algorithms. One note that I got really scared about is that when orienting the corners in the last layer, I was scared when I realized that my megaminx was messed up but the corner was solved. Don't worry about this and if you orient each corner, it will fix itself. Thanks so much!

For me the 2nd to last corner solves the thing (exept the last corner ofc) but when I do the last corner it always messes up 1 area

Thank you very much for doing a PROPER instructional video. I had the same complaint with so-called "tutorials" where the presenter would say something like, "Just find the piece you want and move it in using the standard algorithm (blurry, fast, impossible to follow series of finger tricks, flips and flops), just like that! Simple! I find those videos so annoying. They don't actually teach anything. They just show off a speed-solve with a bit of commentary.

Very Good. Highly recommend to anyone learning to solve a Megaminx. Other tutorials I watched for Megaminx weren't that good but this one is amazing. I learned how to solve a Megaminx in just two days when watching this video. Highly recommend it and thanks to everyone who made this video.

your last corners section is fool proof if you take the time to watch that the top needs moved along, puzzle gonna look jacked up, don't panic or even focus on it, it all comes together in the end, thanks for getting me there, first megaminx solve complete ✅

For those who can’t seem to get the final step, make sure your Cube didn’t flip a corner. I solved it 25 times with the same wrong result. Then I noticed that at the last corner I had a solved cube except the final corner. I reached up and twisted that corner to the correct position and it’s back to easy solving! I’m not crazy after all!!!

This video is the reason I can solve a megaminx and not a Rubik’s cube. I easily forget algorithms and this breaks it down into something that makes sense.

I am loosing it hear I have it almost done, but I cannot get the last corners to line up right. 3 are in the correct position and the other 2 are wrong. I run through the U R 2U' L' 2U R' 2U' L U Algorithm and it moves one of the ones in the right position and the 2 in the wrong. Is there something I can do to get out of this? It is like I found the one Parity Error no one has ever seen.
