This video has really helped me and for my out look I am going for a company that will teach me marketing skills that I can transfer to any marketing job or career I wish to go into as I’m only 17 so getting experience early seems to be what is important instead of getting a degree.
Ugh. I worked for Assurant in their Digital Marketing department, and I hated it. I hated the politics of it all-i.e. having to go through the proper approval channels. Surprisingly when I dipped my hands in SEO, I found it somewhat interesting. Marketing is definitely not glamorous at all. I definitely agree with you that it all comes down to ROI, and creating profitable campaigns is no easy task to say the least. At least my CV rocks though because of my experiences there. That's one plus.

As of right now I am in the middle point of my Marketing and PR degree (1.5 years out of 3). I found this video immensely helpful. Great video Amie! I switched 6 months ago from the finance sector to the cosmetics industry in marketing. Not an easy switch, but very glad with my choice 😊

Thank you so VERY MUCH for this very detailed informative video. Loved watching this and I was hanging on every single word you were saying. My four year degree is in Business Administration and I concentrated in Marketing. I have had a lot of varied business experience but now I am making a big career change where I will focus more on the marketing side of my degree. Your video was right on time. I am so glad I found your channel. As a woman, it is wonderful to hear tips about how to be successful from another woman who is a creative professional. Please more videos like this. Love this video. So interesting to hear more about what it's like to work in marketing. And I totally agree with your advice on how to write your CV and researching companies you're applying to. When I teach Professional Writing we talk about CVs and application letters and I give them the same advice. :)
Chase Amie not ill-advised at all! A lot of people aren't taught that in typically CV/resume writing classes or workshops but since the class I teach approaches professional writing from a rhetorical perspective we really stress the importance of researching the company and writing your CV in a way that spins your skills and background towards what that company is looking for.
I absolutely agree with others. I am not into marketing, but find your video very informative and helpful for many others who are into marketing. Keep up the good work. I also love your bag reviews.
Sorry, was cut off! I have had some bad experiences in this beginning part of my marketing career and your video has helped me see how my passion is better suited for B2B in-house. Thank you so much for the guidance I need at this point in my career! Sometimes I think RUclips has saved my life!

Im also interning at a events company as a marketing intern and i'm getting interested into marketing even tho i specialize in events and hospitality . My role is rather vague and yah its so true that we have to do whatever to get the job done! Really like to watch ur vids , thanks for the helpful info!! 😊
100% agree with staying well rounded. Landed my first marketing coordinator position for a decent sized company with 4 locations. They told me the reason i got the job was because i had experience in everything graphic design, seo, web development, public relations, and event planning.
Depends on your industry. Marketing for fashion, especially one of the larger fashion houses, is very glamorous and fun. Marketing for law firms, probably not lol.
Thank you so much for this video! I am 21 years old and in university (In Canada) and I am getting serious about what kind of career I want. I am torn between marketing and a few other careers. This video gave me some needed in-sight and advice!! Thank you thank you thank you!! LOVE your channel :)

Interesting to hear what your job is like. While it is interesting to hear about, I would never enjoy that type of job which is why I went down the sciences path. I have degrees in chemistry and biology and currently supervise an analytical chemistry laboratory...much more up my alley :)
Okay...I stumbled across your videos and I have been LOVING them. I especially love that you did THIS video as I am interested in Marketing. THANK YOU so much for doing this video and just having great content in general. I subscribed!
Thank you so much for this video!! It is full of great advice and tips from someone who has real experience in the marketing industry. I am so excited to pursue this career in college and hopefully get a job at a company I am passionate about! :)
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and opinions on current marketing jobs. Although I don't live in England and it's still so helpful to hear some practical tips cause I'm searching for a marketing/PR job right now.
Im an International trade major and I'm thinking about adding minors in marketing, Hotel management and Entrepreneurship Just for the purpose of flexibility and to look appealing... My plan is to go to Korea and work in the " International marketing field" Only because i love Korea and skin care and those type of jobs are widely available to foreigners, But i'm only going to do this for at least 3 years to gain experience & save money for my business and Eventually i will launch my products in America and Korea.
Thank you for this video! Very informative! I am specialised in the Hospitality Industry and mainly F&B departments, but it is hard to get out of it. I am looking for new opportunities in Marketing or HR, but everything needs experience (one year mostly) in that area. I always write in cover letters that I'm very quick to pick up skills all that (which is true) and always able to get extra workshops or courses in that area.. Still waiting for that one lucky moment that a company is willing to hire me, haha.
This is a great video and very informative. Just wondering... If you studied Anthropology at uni, how did you get to your current position without the education? In other words, how did you break into the industry? Did you take on different marketing jobs at the beginning of your career to gain the necessary work experience which you say is so important to have on your CV?
I work in marketing & comms and I have a degree in English. I got into marketing by jumping across to a marketing department from Events within the same organisation. My advice for you would be to find a junior job in a small organisation (the smaller the better). Events coordination is a great starting point as it already involves elements of marketing, but is generic enough you don´t need a specific degree to get in. The moment you get there, try to learn as much about marketing and comms as you can. Make friends with the Comms department and make it clear that´s where you´d like to end up. There will come a time when an extra pair hands will be needed to run some elements of comms as it´s an ever-changing function. Good luck!
Thanks for this video I'm currently studying marketing management and this has gave me a much more in depth insight into the career path I want to go down. :) also best wishes for your wedding as seen from your recent vids.
Hi Amie. My name is Miguel. My question is what made you want to make this video about starting a career in marketing? I am new to this vlog thing, but the idea is very informative and encouraging for those who are in fact interested like myself. Thank you for the information, and although this has been published three years ago, the concept I am sure is definitely out-dated. I enjoyed this video.
I’ve been in marketing for about 3 years and I just landed a new 9-5 job in marketing! My position is a social media marketing strategist, kind of like an analyst and consultant.. so I was curious looking at this video lol.
Hey Chase, lovely video! i started living in london about a month ago, and I am now looking for a job. I have a marketing degree and I also have a masters in Management. I find your video very helpfull but I was wondering if you could give some examples of companies that you say are less glamorous but give better salaries, as I am trying to find a job here and that is the type of company that i am trying to apply. Thank you so much for saring your experience and toughts on this!
Very helpful, just got my first few interviews as a Marketing Associate/Mangement Trainee with a few companies and I wanted to know what else I am getting myself into. Since I just graduated from College.
Loved it!!! I'd like to know more about measuring marketing… it's so hard. especially when it's b2c and on social media… like Facebook ads for a company that sell services..
Thanks for sharing your insights Amie! It was so useful - I wasn't really aware of the agency vs in-house difference, and I liked your tips on customising your CV for each job. The misconceptions part about being data driven was insightful as well. I'm currently studying marketing at uni at the moment (from an architecture background) so hearing your experiences was really interesting and motivational :) Love your other videos btw! x
Ahhh excellent. I was just going to say I'm thinking about event planning which is why I'm pursuing marketing. But I want to actually earn money and not be begging on the street for someone to let me plan an event for them.
Thank you for your generosity in being so open and sharing about your career. Would love an update- planning to move from psychology to marketing and would love to know if you are still in marketing or mhave moved on?? Thank you!
Thanks for being such an open book, you're helping so many people! I have a question, is agency-side or in-house more hectic in terms of work hours? I burn out really easily so am trying to figure out what's best for me.
Thank you for making this video! It gives a lot of insight in the marketing industry. Any tips for getting an internship in marketing (specialising in events) in London? I'm wanting to do my internship in London next year. (I do not live in the UK, so it will be an internship abroad for me) :)
My big interests are marketing or psychology, idk if I could do 8 years of school. I know for sure the trades and/or physical labor are a thing of my past :-)
Thank you so much for this video. I just got hired for a job as a marketing assistant and I’m freaking out because I have to move to another state for the job. It pays minimum wage and the city is really expensive to live. I’m gonna he living with family. This is a career change for me. I have no experience in marketing. It’s a small company so I’m gonna gain a lot of experience. My boyfriend who is a senior program manager is not happy I’m taking a job that pays that low with my mba degree. I told him this is what I have to do if I have no experience. Plus I’m moving away from everyone and him. I tried to find a job in my city but it’s crazy how every entry level job wants 3 to 5 years experience. That’s not entry for Pete’s sake. Anyways you’ve helped me feel better in knowing that I’m making the right decision. How long do you think I should stay at entry level before moving on?
My teacher in my current english class (junior year high school) gave me an assighnment to prepare our class for making decisions with collages. She needed us to do some research which included watching a video from an experienced person in the field you are looking into. I was wondering what collages might be looking for in the way of classes. I have not took the marketing class at my school yet , but plan on doing so senior year. I am doing alright in my math classes which sound like an important part. Should I look into any honers or ap classes. They tend to go too fast for me from passed experience in the higher up classes. I also have been trying to learn Spanish in hopes of someday being fluent. I live in the United States by the way.

Abundant Video!I really love it! It assisted me a lot!
Concept is definitely 'not' out-dated. Had to correct myself.
I don't work in marketing however you are soo inspiring Amie!!
Super helpful. I'm in the US, but I can see a lot of your principles applying here.
Great video! Most resourceful video I’ve watched! Thank you!

I'm from America and I could not tell that you were saying Email Marketing! I thought you said E-Mark or E-Mall Marketing. So funny! Great Video!

I’ve been in marketing for about 3 years and I just landed a new 9-5 job in marketing! My position is a social media marketing strategist, kind of like an analyst and consultant.. so I was curious looking at this video lol.
Gabrielle is it fun ? Good pay ?
I'm graduating with a mktg degree in may! I loved this video!!
Thanks for highlighting these features of marketing. Stay blessed
Very helpful, just got my first few interviews as a Marketing Associate/Mangement Trainee with a few companies and I wanted to know what else I am getting myself into. Since I just graduated from College.
Did you get a job? What's it like? I graduated from Marketing and applying to jobs now.
really informative Amie for those pursuing that career. well done.
Great video. I found it very informative! Thank you!
Loved it!!! I'd like to know more about measuring marketing… it's so hard. especially when it's b2c and on social media… like Facebook ads for a company that sell services..

Good Video!I really love it! It assisted me a lot!
Thank you so much for making this video! I found it very helpful, interesting and inspiring. Thank you for so many good tips :)
Thanks for sharing your insights Amie! It was so useful - I wasn't really aware of the agency vs in-house difference, and I liked your tips on customising your CV for each job. The misconceptions part about being data driven was insightful as well. I'm currently studying marketing at uni at the moment (from an architecture background) so hearing your experiences was really interesting and motivational :) Love your other videos btw! x
Thank you so much for sharing! I'm also an anthropology major transitioning into marketing! :)
ah how cool! Love anthropology!
+Chase Amie absolutely! I love all your videos! And your personality too! Please keep making them :))
Great video! I'd like to know about your career goals if that's not too personal. Do you have 5-year-plans or yearly goals etc.
Thanks for this video! I've done a little research but this will help :)
Ahhh excellent. I was just going to say I'm thinking about event planning which is why I'm pursuing marketing. But I want to actually earn money and not be begging on the street for someone to let me plan an event for them.
Great Video! Fantastic job on this video.
Unlimited Video! Very interesting and informative video.
I really enjoyed this Video! Very glad I checked it out.
My big interests are marketing or psychology, idk if I could do 8 years of school. I know for sure the trades and/or physical labor are a thing of my past :-)
Vast Video! Very glad I checked it out.
Thank you very much Chase, the info you gave was very useful
