    Many thanks for making this video. The content was so well explained and a very professional work ethic that is quite rare these days. Even if a plumber or DIY enthusiast were to cut corners when carrying out this task, it wouldn't have much time and would in fact bea water of time. I would be more than confident to trust the content and I will be following for more tips and advice.

    I like the details the little tips you give.
    I've topped up via the Magnaclean taking the opportunity to clean it if necessary, only thing is it won't take quite so much inhibitor in one go so a second application may be required after the first has been distributed around the system but it's less of a fiddle if such a device is fitted.

    I/2 inch boiler stud and a 3/4 x 1/2 flexi onto a wee coke bottle and cut off the bottom of bottle and that’s your funnel for adding chemicals as the way your doing it is holding its own syphon. And been using the same wee coke bottle for 40yrs. 👍👍👍

    Great vid - am off to chop off a bit of hose. I tried one of the presurised cans of the stuff, its very clever little pipe valve system squirted me directly in the eyes with the inhibitor, I ran off to the nearest sink, spent 10mis washing my eyes and face, come back to find the entire can had emptied itself down the back of the boiler, a completely inaccessible place. Probably going to eat its way through to the core of the planet and stick like crap before it gets there. You method with hose and a tub of (upresurised) stuff looks a lot easier!

    I suspect not too many are going to have a vacuum cleaner that can suck water in that way. Another way to create some space if you have a towel rail radiator (especially an upstairs one where that radiator is likely the highest point of the system) is to turn off the taps then remove the upper plug and use a siphon pipe to drain the water to create enough space to add your inhibitor/sealant etc.

    Hello Mark, firstly, thank you for all your videos, they are a great help. Secondly, can you please clarify whether you can add the inhibitor when you are replacing an old radiator with a new one, before letting the water in to the new radiator can I add the inhibitor first and then open up the valves and re-pressurise the system or should you let water run through it first and then empty it again and then pour in the inhibitor? Thank you.

Landlord doesn't care unless completely broken, but it's getting noisier and less heat and its NEVER had inhibitor except once 9 years ago and it HAS had one radiator drained since then (but never topped up with inhibitor) so I want to try myself (I've took radiators off and on before etc but want to check if it's suitable for a HIU with a communal district boiler) also should I do this the closest or furthest away from the HIU..

      No easy way of doing this. If you have small micro bore pipes that bend may be you can pull some more up though the floor or wall. most likely your need to do some pipe work. As you said that is not in this video. That will be a video to be made some time. Obviously cant explain this here, to much involved.

    Hi, I need to fit a couple of TRV valves on my gravity fed system in my 2 bed bungalow so is it ok if I drain the system down, clean the header tank as it’s filthy then once I’ve fitted the new valves can I poor the inhibitor using a funnel and piece of hose down the water feed hole in the header tank then turn the water back on so the header tank starts to fill and replenish the radiators and pipes? Thanks

      The existing fitting will already have the old olive in. As you tighten the nut the existing olive will 'bite', sealing the joint.

    • @keithturvey5818

      You only need to put the inhibitor into one radiator; after the full central heating system has been on for a short time the concentration of the inhibitor will become uniform throughout.

  • @TwinbeeUK
    @TwinbeeUK 3 года назад +11

    Don't think you need to drain the whole radiator, just enough to create enough space for the inhibitor liquid to fit in.

  • @manofweed1
    @manofweed1 2 года назад

    Inhibitor will enter radiator much quicker and easier if you remove the bung at top of radiator on other side. Stops back pressure when adding Inhibitor. Also better to make up something with an iron to copper fitting to seal, rather than tape.

    I was just about to do this myself and niticed the instructions on the back say to flush the system first with the recomended Chemical flush?? My system is quite old (20ish years) if i was to use Flush first would i have to completly drain the system or is there an aceptible amount that can be left in?? i guess i'm saying will i have to run water through the sytem a few times to get the Chemical flush 100% out before adding the Inhibitor??

    • @andybradshaw5971

      If you are using a system cleaner or sludge remover, you should always flush it through thoroughly, as cleaners can counteract the effectiveness of the inhibitor if left in the system.

    Joe Public...I am not a plumber but don't piss about with radiators as you will throw the water balance out or could risk the valve sticking Most modern boilers have a magnetic filter which you can easily access. Turn the water flow off,unscrew and clean magnet and fill up you inhibitor in cup and screw back on and reverse process run your system half hour and go back and repeat as inhibitor comes in a litre so you will have to repeat twice. Check your rads for air locks which may need bleeding
