Some people think that if you take your camera out in public and just point at anything, and turn it b&w, it’s automatically a good street photo, but clearly that’s not true.
@@loosoo8208 there is photography theory that explains why some pictures are more appealing than others, there's no good pictures or bad pictures, there is just pictures, that's why art is subjective, but I think the "most" beautiful pictures ( and many others photographers agree) are when you can put a nice concept in a picture ( concrete: human being, animal, object, etc; intangible: emotions, feelings, etc) with a nice framing ( rule of third, horizont line, guiding lines, vanishing point, focus, sub framing, contrast, etc) those things all put together creates a more appealing picture. Anyways this doesn't mean that a pictures is more important than another, just maybe more appealing for the human eye

Got yelled at last week for taking a picture of some people playing badminton. They were all symmetric so obviousl.y had to take it. Interesting story! I assume they wanted to protect the production from beeing photographed before the movie release or something. I love documenting scenes on film productions as well but sometimes (often) it is not allowed. That's why my Ricoh GR was my secret hidden pocket camera for behind the scenes photos for a while :)
Dog owners don’t like people photographing their dogs sometimes because there is this idea that people take photos to steal the dog and use it to breed for profit. I don’t know how many times out of zero that this has happened, but I was told once that this is the reason.
@Enotik Poloskun I know, right? This is how I feel whenever anything bans cameras. I have been to tourist activities that ban cameras like phone cameras aren't a thing.
Did shadow detail and tones between black and white become unimportant when digital came on the scene? Or is it just because anyone can play photography now?
That would be impressive if the B&W images were straight out of camera jpgs and I have read that the GR II (and GR?) do produce very good in-camera B&W jpgs. Would be great to hear a confirmation about this as well as camera settings while shooting, such as if snap focus mode was used, aperture priority, etc ….
We actually did talk about it but cut it out because it was too long... Basically he shoots RAW+JPEG (in black & white) and then uses lightroom to convert the RAW files to monochrome using a lightroom default preset (I think something like monochrome filter). And then he lifts the shadows a bit and changes contrast and exposure but not much more.
Thanks for the personal reply and information, which I found very informative. Any idea on Bello's camera settings or at least what you recommended and maybe how he had adapted for his style? I really would like to get a used GR, thus my interest in what the camera can do. To the both of you, keep up the great work and looking forward to more content.

You can't change people and some have either less self confidence or a sense of self importance that you have to deal with ;)
Haha, I haven't noticed that front element thing :D Thanks for your comment! We will do more videos together in the future.
I don’t know how many times out of zero that this has happened, but I was told once that this is the reason.
wow interesting to know!
@Enotik Poloskun I know, right? This is how I feel whenever anything bans cameras. I have been to tourist activities that ban cameras like phone cameras aren't a thing.
he's really good
Did shadow detail and tones between black and white become unimportant when digital came on the scene? Or is it just because anyone can play photography now?
Nice video. More of this series please.
Best channel on street photography on yt!
Wow, thanks!
14:00 "I don't like people who don't have manners"...... click! what a legend!
Absolutely brilliant work, please do tell us your camera settings for that B/W work. We would love to try that too!
Rosso Rosso P mode
I think he shoots auto ISO. And he shoots RAW+JPEG. The B/W conversion is done in lightroom using a monochorme preset from lightroom.
great video fellas. Some nice shots. Glad I checked out your channel.
Any dust problems with carrying the GR around in the pocket?
1:17 omfg I do this all the god damn time with my GR as well
Haha :D
Amazing photos, is he shooting manual or priority mode?
You guys are awesome!
Could listen forever, bloody hell..
Inspiring video! Do you always work in zone focus or changes setting every situations? Thanks a lot
Zone focusing when possible. Other times AF and mostly manual (or auto ISO).
Excellent work! Would of been great to hear of settings for the Ricoh GR and the workflow, in particular post processing.
It looked to me as it was straight out of the camera
You should have asked the dog for it's permission, woof means OK and woof woof means fuck off.
Haha that is funny. Next time we will.
Nice Databank Bello!
In Sydney Australia I’ve only had one instance where a woman asked me to delete (I shoot film 😅) Germany seems scary haha.
he is so talented!!
Agree! I was shocked.
I come to Hamburg quite often from Copenhagen. What are the odds you’d wanna meet up and go shoot some photos together?
Amazing video! Love these b&w street photos. May I know if both of you shoot in raw and convert them in post?
Bello shoots in RAW and does the editing in Lightroom. I just edited my JPEG's in photoshop (slight s-curve).
What app is the best for transferring photos from Ricoh gr iii to Android smartphone?
