The kardashev scale is also very outdated. It's a 60's mindset of more energy=more powerful, like, they probably figured how to do more with less, not burning and eating up all resources . What would you do with this amount anyway? What if they have a form of population control, keeping it relatively stable to avoid using up to much resources, this would also help eliminating overall scarcity, less people= more of the cool stuff for everyone. It's an extremely human centered and limited idea, that was o.k. at that time, but should not be used today anymore.
@@meneedmorebrain That's definitely possible. However, it's also true that, per Jenkins paradox, more efficiency creates more demand. Really, it's pure speculation.
Last week I had an odd deja vu… I don’t know the psychology behind deja vu but usually for me they feel like glimpse into a parallel universe. They appear like a flush back that’s so real yet before I can grasp the memory it’s gone. Well last week I was listening to evolution of earth video and I started questioning why are we on earth what’s the purpose? Immediately I had a deja vu where I was watching earth from space not even within our orbit. Then I felt this feeling of knowing why we are here and there’s a goal and it’s silly of me not to know it cos I had seen earth before coming here. Then my mind went like wtf and I tried to rerun that memory but it was gone. I couldn’t retrieve the memory nor the answer. I’ve never even dreamt of being in space so I have no idea where that memory came from. What if maybe we’re not from Earth but rather we’re here for a reason. Why is the reason not revealed to us?
Dyson swarms would certainly be much more practical, logistically or otherwise. The amount of material a civilization would need to mine or acquire from throughout their star system to construct a Dyson sphere would be wasteful and any species which attains a high enough level on the Kardashev scale to accomplish such things would never waste the time or effort to do so. Dyson swarms would be vastly more efficient while requiring substantially less material and without starving the planets in the system of the star's light.
It will take hundreds, thousands of years before this tech is even possible to be engineered. Is there even enough material in our solar system to achieve this futuristic technology?
Really for a species to accomplish it I imagine AI would be necessary, which would already be very likely if the species has developed interstellar space travel. And yes there is enough of the materials and they can be taken with the help of AI from other planets. Obviously this process would take crazy amounts of time, that's why AI would be so helpful.
"thousands of years before this tech is even possible to be engineered"... No,,, humans in the last 15 years have grown to be geniuses... via Net, instant info at everyones fingertips. It will take a bit but it will happen.... the human mind is a huge part of any tech.
Kardashev scale should get obsolete by now and be replaced by the Intelligence Scale. Civilizations should be categorized by its processing/computing power organic or inorganic or both, and not energy consumption. A high-level civilization may not even harness its suns energy as they are very efficient in making and recycling them. I can say that we are in level II civilization because we use both organic and inorganic processesors (brain and computer). Once we get to properly link to brain to computer, we get to a higher level, and so on, until we reach top intelligence.
I mean, all of these scales we make could possibly be obsolete. Kardashev scale is not as good as it is before, because now we have realised the importance of algorithms, and computing, through computer science. But it can still be used, and we don't know if the latter is perfect either.
Well, I have always thought as a kid that we are not finding ET because we are searching for a similar civilization as our own, so, this presentation was very interesting to me.
I had a dream once where aliens came to earth, me and my dad were just going for a walk, I looked up at the sky and said those are weird looking clouds, then i realized they were a fleet of ships, one pod landed near me and a tall blue humanoid being walked out wearing an Egyptian like robe, but I also noticed that they had a portable Dysons sphere next to their biggest ship, it was like a miniature portable sun with a dysons sphere like structure around it.
I've seen these. The object you describe is a small spin stabilized black hole. They use it to generate a warp field that drags the ships around, though the ships are technically stationary and the space/time flows around them. Two of these things are needed as it blows a bubble of hyperspace around the ships. ❤
The biggest problem in my opinion is that we’re trying to find advanced civilizations and life out there, but we’re looking on our terms and level of understanding. For all we know, we could be sharing this very planet with higher beings at the exact same time as we exist and not even know it. We’re indescribably primitive in the grand scheme of possibilities.
Kardashev just talked about ENERGY BUDGETS, which says little about other aspects: level-wide govt a must, per-level space tech logical; power costs likely limit continent modding until K2, planet moving until K3. Anything else is just wild guesses.
We are someone’s sneeze on a window of a type 11 civilization bedroom discussing this while they farted gazing out into space waiting there turn for the restroom.
We can't properly comprehend more advanced civilizations, because, we can only extrapolate from what we think we know, it's the same thing as trying to comprehend or imagine something perfect, or to imagine something infinite, which if you define, it's not infinite anymore ..... deep, I know, but try
I really think hunanity actually has the technology to do a dyson swarm now. Self replicating bots would be kinda tricky, automated microchip machines require very pure materials... Automated refineries would be a challenge.
To cover at least the outer orbit of earth i think not and to orbit the sun close anuff to maybe not effect the heating of earth from the sun ,it just sound impossible from are level of technology, btw we just now enter the research age, we been in the industrial age up till the world wide web
@@GaryRichadson well, the technology exists, but currently requires a lot of human input. If we had self replicating robots, that but of tech would be necessary.

Possible civilizations are so far away that meeting them in the flesh is unlikely. What's more, travelling at speeds like the speed of light will be extremely dangerous. Encounter a pebble and the vehicle could be seriously damaged. The inter-solar space is not as empty as we might imagine. For example, some of the equipment on Voyager 1 and 2 no longer works because of such collisions.

If a civilization would start building a sphere or something around a sun, what keeps them from not bouncing or crashing into that sun? Something to think about. It is almost telling the rain to not fall down or the waves to stop banging on the ground. Not only it's gravity and solar winds are strong, but they do not equal them out.
I wholeheartedly agree with you. Our arrogance and bigotry would immediately kick in the second Our arrogant leaders would ask the question; do you believe in god ? The instant they answer, NO, Our Gov leaders would assume the very worst that their superstitious minds can muster… Example: They must be in league with the devil. From there on everything would deteriorate into chaos because superstitious beliefs continue to govern our capacity to reason and usually for the absolute worst. This is why it is imperative that only Our best Scientific Minds be allowed to communicate unfettered by any typical restraints. Most honest Scientists have the Capacity to separate their beliefs of a god from any Scientific endeavor to exchange knowledge that leads to a better understanding of the parties involved.
I don’t think this would even be close to occurring. We as humans suffer too many flaws that prevent us from advancing and achieving greatness unknown to mankind. Our ego will always get in the way, our envy will always make us want what others around us have and our arrogance will not allow us to forgive if we make mistakes during this process. I often read a rough estimate that we are .7 type 1. I've always found that hard to believe as we have not even mapped 70% of the Earth 's surface above and under the oceans let alone control 70% of its energy.
By this logic, and knowing that the further you look in space, the further back in time you're looking because it takes light a long time to travel from stars to us, could we not look back 4.5B light years away and see what the universe looked like around that time period to see if other galaxies could've been abundant with life billions of years ago?
@@stevenschalck2781 I don't know what you mean by "change time", but moving stars could be done by type 2. Creating Universes could also be done by type 2-3, if it is allowed by physics.
I don't think we compare civilizations purely by the amount of energy they consume. What if a planet can get endless amount of electricity? We will save some money, apply some technologies that were not economic before, but will that make us really that much efficient?
If NASA found anything of significance out in the cosmos, we'll never know about it. We cant colonize the moon for research purposes let alone building a dyson sphere.
We do have that debris belt going around our galaxy. Maybe some of other planets moons. Doesn't Saturn have like 78. But also would harvesting moons affect their gravitational pull on the host planet. How would that affect our galaxy. It will be 100s if not 1000s of years before we even leave our galaxy if we don't destroy our planet first
Like everything else we've built it would be done peice by peice. Besides the challenge would be how to set all that up so it can do what it's supposed to do not how to build it.
A Dyson sphere is an old Sci-Fi idea. It's a cool idea but it makes no sense if you really think about it. The resources required to encase in a star if you can do that you can probably find an easier way of generating power. It's kind of silly.

Let me pose this question to everyone… If you were a life form with superior intellect would you want to make contact with a civilization like ours that has yet to advance beyond killing when disputes arise? We are technically primitive in every regard. Our civilization is divided by Hatred of skin color, intellect, envy, Greed, Bigotry against Gender, Sexual Orientation, personal possessions, etc. Most prefer physical possessions over obtaining or acquiring knowledge. I would certainly advise any type of intelligence to avoid us at all costs. Instead of a desire to learn from such Civilizations Our leaders would focus on acquiring their knowledge to build more destructive weapons. This is who We currently are and will continue to be for some time because We focus on all the wrong things that divides us as a Civilization. Until We change from within for the better I suggest all life forms form elsewhere to avoid us because We offer nothing beneficial in any real sense. Look in on us in another 10,000 years to see if We’ve matured. If We are lucky maybe then We have learned to live in harmony with nature and ourselves.
Why would you not assume that alien civilisations also colonised and waged wars themselves 😂😂 They likely would have more terrifying weaponry than humans have ever imagines. They have probably easily waged numerous devastating wars amongst themselves
There are folks out there actively seeking out tribes that have been isolated for thousands of years. So much so it's illegal to make any contact with them, for obvious reasons. Any civilization that is/was curious and bold enough to move out of their solar system would would be curious enough to study or contact a species that's basically a snapshot of their own civilization in the far flung past on an alien planet. It's exactly what humans would do if we were in the position to travel to extraterrestrial planets.

But yet they can't live or breathe our air , so the crazy thing is we have so many rockets and satellites recently. Makes u think if we're sending them back to get technology and come back to earth in a hundr3d years if we survive this long.. send technology and a life form in a rocket or satellite like voyager and when it.makes it around the solar system then they have pinpointed location of where the aliens life forms actually found life.. So that's that's a r3ason we can't go to the moon because it's been a base for the government (aliens) to gather information and view the earth for their saf3 haven.. So nonetheless we're in a agreement to destroy ourselves until the robotic technology takes us out and th3n the aliens can create their own life out of our destruction.
I have a question that I have asked many times on different channels and never received an answer. Say we could harvest all materials to create a Dyson sphere by utilizing the entire planet of mercury, would that create ramifications in the general operation of our solar system. It seems to my dumb self that shifting an entire planets mass towards the sun would wreak havoc on the orbits of the remaining planets.
There is a good deal of evidence that AI has been overhyped, and there isn’t even a theoretical explanation of how cold fusion could actually work. This scale is compelling, but it is truly science fiction
Remember that one solution to the Fermi Paradox is the possibility of a Dark Forest. Which is what im leaning toward... good thing we're actively making ourselves known to the universe... so cool 😭
The first thing that comes to my uneducated mind is that for constructing the Dyson swarm is that people aren't going to use steel of any kind because of the heat. Why don't we think about using some kind of a ceramic, or other type of material that's both heat resistant and you're able to make it by the sun, but that's faaaaar away.
"The summons to co-operate identifies the healer." - Frank Herbert It's control (!) of the genome that interests me. If Kardashev and Sagan did not expand the scale to a type-four; Universal energy manipulation, and type-five; alternative universe manipulation or creation. When did we get Type-Six and Type-Seven?
I dont think a civilization reaching these milestones would necessarily be building dyson spheres and harnessing all of the natural resources of their planet, or even planets in their solar system: it may not be necessary. If a civilization achieves more exotic energy sources based on more fundamental universal forces - such as antimatter reactors or harnessing zero point energy - i think they could achieve interstellar colonization without needing to use the raw energy of their star and its planets.
This presentation encourages a great expansion of imagination, I see great science fiction, a work inspiring to understand more of human evolution. On the other hand, by remaining in physics and material science, the problems with time and the living nature of beings and consciousness, beyond humanity are not addressed. If living beings are able to control and become energy -existing beyond the relative flow of time time and distances. What would be their purpose in seeking such unstoppable building and harnessing of universal reality? Why would do they need physical elements if they can move instantaneously or transform anything to what they want? These terrible creatures resemble the special nature of so called dominions, principalities and powers, beings existing out of time with the capability to manipulate and influence civilizations leading them to separate universes.
I don’t think humans as we are will be capable of anything beyond type 1. We just have too much fighting amongst ourselves to actually get beyond that. If we are to go further we need to evolve in some way.
Wars will almost certainly continue to decrease in frequency, as/if technology advances, because they can only occur due to a lack of information (decision theory, game theory, in principle, can always determine a negotiated settlement)- if a species arbitrarily keeps its propensity towards senseless violence, it cannot even reach such levels of sophistication.
you would need more material of advanced materials like metals and shit like that than the amount of matter thats on earth to do this. we would have to harvest an entire solar system to be able to even come close to starting a dyson sphere.

Dyson Spheres are not possible, period. Nor would they be necessary for a super advanced species.
I don't know why a civilization's energy use is the metric used to judge technological advancement. Then again, I'm a type .01 on the scale.
Probably not, sun makes 99% of mass in the solar system.
Hardly, thousand years at most
We would have to go all in nuclear to even have a chance at type 1...
"thousands of years before this tech is even possible to be engineered"... No,,, humans in the last 15 years have grown to be geniuses... via Net, instant info at everyones fingertips. It will take a bit but it will happen.... the human mind is a huge part of any tech.
This would be so cool to find. The engineering to go into a construction bike this. Absolutely mind- boggling

If you were a life form with superior intellect would you want to make contact with a civilization like ours that has yet to advance beyond killing when disputes arise?
Why would you not assume that alien civilisations also colonised and waged wars themselves 😂😂
They likely would have more terrifying weaponry than humans have ever imagines.
So nonetheless we're in a agreement to destroy ourselves until the robotic technology takes us out and th3n the aliens can create their own life out of our destruction.

Nothing will replace wars, we love to fight and project our control over others
Wars will almost certainly continue to decrease in frequency, as/if technology advances, because they can only occur due to a lack of information (decision theory, game theory, in principle, can always determine a negotiated settlement)- if a species arbitrarily keeps its propensity towards senseless violence, it cannot even reach such levels of sophistication.
This gets me wondering... did you watch Interstellar? The beings, or whatever you want to call them, do you think they had reached Type 7?
Betteridge's Law to the rescue!
you would need more material of advanced materials like metals and shit like that than the amount of matter thats on earth to do this. we would have to harvest an entire solar system to be able to even come close to starting a dyson sphere.
