Though I don't do Garry's mod, I find this helpful for my Lego animations for some reason
I learned a lot of things I Didn't know before about lighting and some addons I never realize that exist.
Now its time to practice and improve.

I've been doing scenebuilding on-off as a hobby for a couple years now for my creative itch, but have always had a hard time getting my head wrapped around the lighting stretch of it (way too many projects were very fustratingly scrapped due to such quams).
As others have said, this video is by-far the easiest to follow tutorial regarding this stuff, and even though it may be mostly for animation, the fact that its in a concise, yet still reasonably detailed video format is immensely helpful compared to skipping through a 30 minute monster tutorial over-and-over again to just to remember the process.

Very helpful tutorial. It really reminds me of SFM lighting and the way you light in Gmod is very similiar to that.
Actually a really really interesting way of doing lighting, just finished the rest of the currently released parts and for me I’ll be really interested in learning how you do your animations, especially with the key frame workflow, big thanks for the effort put into these!
ive gotten really deep into source screenshots and lighting is always my biggest problem, thank you for this tutorial, nowhere else helped

Dude, this was by far the best lighting tutorial i've seen so far. With this video I feel like I can easily watch it along with trying to experiment, awesome job. Can't wait to see how you animate!

The dynamic prop addon doesn't work for me, the ragdoll after posing keeps going back to stand pose when I left click on it.
Has to be something else, dynamic prop has nothing to do with poses

is it fine not to use soft lamps
normal lamps give way more lag than soft lamps
@@joacons so is using soft lamps poster command take up any storage or is it fine to use the normal poster command
you mean the poster_soft, poster_darken stuff?
thats mainly for artwork
for animation its not needed, just use them as a normal lamp
